What a glorious day we woke up to here at Corseside….and even better i had nowhere to go and plenty to do in the garden…

to think only two months ago my garden looked like this…

and now…..

I still had three jumpers on when i took this at tenish….but it was still lovely.

first task was to open up the tunel and greenhouse. here at the nursery we are growing twenty varieties of tomatoes. they have been in here since the first of feb…

the tarpaulin goes on every night so does the gas.

now that they have germinated the gas is only there to keep the frost off.

with twenty varieties this year im going to have my work cut out remembering which is which…i hate it when labels wash off as some did last year..

On into the green house to the succulents.

thursday was spent sorting out and throwing out the ones that didnt make it. i hate doing it but it get rid of the rotten and rotting debris and so helps keep things healthier.

i try to open up the windows each day to help keep the air fresh but they are all closed now till morning.

not all of them look happy but most do and im delighted. best not to be too cocky yet though, as it is still only febuary and there more winter to come.

outside and there are a few flower popping out.

christmas present from our son Jack.

we are getting six more hens next week. preparations need to be made for their arrival.

it was so nice to be in the garden all day, and the to top it all Wales won….:-)..

Lovely photo`s of your garden Sandra and it seems you are very busy again with all that lot to look after, its maddening when the labels go awry in my little greenhouse so I don`t envy you with all your varieties.

That man whose watching over your garden seems a bit moody in your photo, think you caught him on a bad day, bet the chucks are pleased there is wire fencing between them, lol.....

thank you so much for your lovely comments...

the statue seems to be grumpy most days Lincs...

Motinot dont worry too much about the leggy bit...when you pot them on you can bury them up to their necks again.
succulents do well on window ledges too Lauram.
im delighted with how many succulents have come through the winter Hywel.

Youv'e got a lot going on there Sandra, the toms are looking nice, Interesting to see how you do the heating, What's on the other end of the bottle ?

13 Feb, 2011

I was wondering about that .......

13 Feb, 2011

there is a small gas heater..at first to get germination we have heated underblankets and the gas to reach 70degrees...but thats only for one week. now we just use the gas when we think the frost is comming. we think its important not to molycodle them too much. getting the balance right is the hard bit but Julian is in control of that.checks on them soo often just to make sure....

Thanks Sandra, I'm using paraffin and a frost free electric heater, just wonder if this was a more economical way.

13 Feb, 2011

the gas is sooo expensive...thats why we have added the electric underblankets...my dad reckons its slightly cheaper...
