as we live on the Pembrokeshire coast we suffer from awesome weather patterns. the up side is we get lots of stuff washed up on the beach. as i love to recycle this gives me many opportunities to collect all sorts of bits and bobs….

on a recent visit to Freshwater west my daughter Lilly and myself went is search of…well anything interesting…lol

it was a lovely day and we had the beach to ourselves…

first we spotted this buoy on the waters edge..

then this little yellow one

then..an orange…..yes a real orange..im sure it would have been a salty orange though….

my favorite thing we found this time was this net..

had to pull it out of the sand and untie it from seaweed ..

but what a result..its about 2meters wide by 6m long

how i wish we could have carried this driftwood

we see lots of drift wood but i think the only way to get the heavy bits off the beach would be to use a shire horse to drag it over the dunes…

these pics show you some of the nets and buoys we have collected over the years..

the nets are great for fencing

of course as a gardener..there is nothing like seaweed just sooo good for the garden…

thanks for reading…:-)

just added this pic ..not local rubbish me thinks…lol

have heard of seaweed fertilizer...is it salty? do you have to compost it or can you add it to the soil in the same form as you take it from the ocean? I found a site on the Pembrokeshire coast preservation society it looks lovely.

It's amazing what the sea washes up. Driftwood looks lovely in the garden.

Lori the seaweed we bring up from the beach gets put into the compost heap and i have also been digging it into my veg plot. if i leave it in the sun it crumbles into small pieces so it mixes in better.

Hywel i get soo excited when i find a good net, rope, or big fish box. i have brought lots of wood up but lust after the huge lumps of wood...

I often have to be forcibly removed from things I find on beaches! I always seem to come across large unwieldy heavy bits of stuff that I can see a purpose for but - strangely - no-one else can! The idea of shire horse haulage sounds great. Shame I can't keep one as a pet! ;o)

The net ideas are brilliant, maybe you need to borrow one of those four wheeled buggys for the wood!

what a clever idea putting up the old netting for climbing plants - the sea and sand looks so inviting too.

beautiful photos Sandra and I love all your finds. :-))

A veritable treasure trove it seems and nothing looks out of place Sandra, its a good job I don`t live by the sea I`d be collecting all the time lol, I always go home with a pebble /pebbles or a few shells, hidden somewhere as a keepsake, I still have a treasure dated Aug1961 from the Great Orme, its by my pond, first holiday I`d ever had, they are never the same if you buy them, lol, is it classed as stealing now, I s`pose it is in our daft time.....

on one of the big boxes i have found it says 'stolen from bilingsgate fish market'......i wasnt me officer...i found it on the beach...lol

apparently ALL pebbles and shells belong to the queen...im sure she dosent mind us having a few....
