the last few weeks have been very busy around here what with tomato seeds and getting everything ready at the nursery for the spring. much excitement this weekend when i acquired a collection of Auriculas from a friend who is retiring from here nursery. i’m always on the look out for some thing new to sell and these babies came along just at the right time.
there are over 200 of them….22 named varieties and many others without labels.
i spent the day getting to know my new friends. lots of weed seedlings to remove and then i set about sorting them to see how many varieties and how many of each.
one or 2 are showing the first sign of bud already…and even a couple with flowers on.
going to be such fun waiting for them to flower so i can see what i have…any advice would gratefully received…
meanwhile elsewhere at corseside the tomatoes are doing well with over 50% germination already…
wont be long before they all need potting on….
with no rain for 2 weeks all our plants needed a good watering…
cordyline re-shooting..:-)
and a stunning sunset to finish the day
happy gardening..:-)

I don't know anything about auriculas, but I enjoyed your blog! Looks like you're going to be very busy!

There is an Auricular Society. I knew a man once who was potty about them. He wore the badge in his lapel just to see how many people knew what it was. Its just an Auricula flower, without any words.
There is always a stand at Chelsea.

me too Bampy...
Paul...i've been to the garden centre today to check out the competition. on a purely professional mission of course...no purchases to be made of course.....didnt count on the addiction to kick in....now have 4 stunning large indoor cyclamen and a dozen primroses. the cyclamen were finishing flowering so they were reduced to 1 pound each. they are quite large plants and now i have dead headed them i can see loads more buds coming. the worse thing is i didn't find any auricula and will now have to force myself to enter another den of temptation. all in the interest of research of course..lol

You could always leave your purse at home Sandra.....;)
Those cyclamen sound like a good bargain, hope they reward your care with lots of flowers.

My goodness Sandra, you are going to be busy! I've not come across Auriculas before I'm ashamed to admit, but I will be looking out for them in future.

Busy busy busy. You're working hard Sandra. Haven't your toms germinated quickly, your under-floor heating is working well. Would'nt it be nice if potting on compost was free, sigh. Or any compost ..

We do grow some Auriculas but not the specialist kind, they have stood the winter well, OH is very fond of them, wanted to build a theatre for them.....another string to your bow Sandra.....
Your toms do look healthy.

i'm delighted with the germination ..and all growing well now. Dawn. compost is so expensive...as is pots..i cant get over the price of pots...
where do you keep them in the winter Dotty? could you get your OH to make 2 theatres while hes at it...lol
