we have spent the last two weeks running around our garden getting it ready for our open day. with one week to go i’m realy pleased with the progress.with everyone home for half term it was hectic but all family and friends that visited lent a hand. tonight i took some pics. i’ve chosen the best bit obviously. we still have a few eyesores to deal with but now the grass is cut it all looks so much better.
my new tyre circle toolk a battering but is doing well in some places
as you can see i like my hedges and edges
!
these are my fedges. the wiegela and the budlia globosa are weaved into themselves to help them stay upright.
the path is made from bricks from an old house in the village.
i hope u enjoyed the tour…;-))

Oooh Sandra your garden is great. Hope your open day goes well for you. If only I were nearer....
By the way, ages ago you gave me some advice on my Aeonium, about chopping off the rosettes as they were getting too tall. I took my time but eventually did it a couple of months ago! The mother plant looks very healthy and so do the 4 cuttings! So thank you!!

Love your garden Sandra, hills in the background and near a beach, heaven. I'm not sure about all that hedge cutting though.during my gardening career I've cut hundreds of them and I've come to loathe hedge trimming! Beautiful Crinodendron and the tyre circle is brilliant idea.

thanks DD and Rob its the final count down now 6 days left....
i'm amazed at the amount of flower on the crinodendron this year.
as for the hedge cutting all my hedges came from cutting from friends and niegbours. its taken them a few years to become real hedges. i like to sculpt them....no doubt when i've cut them as much as ou have Rob then the novalty will wear off...;-))

Nice blog, lovely garden Sandra. I can sympathise with you on the rushing around getting everything ready. And you never seem to get everything done, or at the last moment something goes wrong which takes all your time up. I hope nothing like this happens for you. At least, with the open day, you have a definite target day to be raedy for. WQhen I used to enter our local 'In Bloom' competition (which I know we've spoken about before) it was frustrating not knowing when the judges were coming and invariably I'd be out and get told by my neighbours they'd been. They always say the judging will take place in first two (whole) weeks of July, but one year they didn't come till 2nd August when we were away! It's a relief this year that I decided not to enter! Good luck with your day, I'm sure it will go brilliantly and raise lots for your charity!

Have yo ever grown potatoes in tyres Sandra??? I saw the idea somewhere, and what i liked best about it was you can add tyres when time to earth up and take tyres away to check progress before harvesting!
7 Jun, 2009
thanks for your comments Paul. and no i havent grown spuds in tyres. but i have seen some my friend did. she got loads of potatoes...

That was a fantastic tour - it looks like a huge garden to care for. Those hedges and mass plantings are fantastic - love the spot where the garden bench is. The garden beds along the path look lovely - beautiful tree ferns! You've done a terrific job. I'm sure the open day will be a big success.
