Hello everyone!
My name is Oscar, I am a 14 1/2 year old Standard Dachshund. I love spending the day out in the garden lying in the sun – not when it’s too hot though – mum always puts me back indoors.
Due to medical reasons – I have a bad back – a hazzard of my breed I’m afraid! I am no longer able to go for long walks but I do enjoy lying around on the grass watching the day go by!
Over the last few weeks I have been finding it difficult to to get over the stepping stone and chips – they hurt my feet like you wouldn’t believe
The back step is just too high for my tiny little legs now and it hurts to jump up
I am having to limit my time outdoors because I have to wait until someone can be outside with me to lift me back up…..
Well, ‘we’ decided to make some improvements – of they went in the car to buy some things which will make it easier – a few slabs and a wooden sleeper, is what they need I think!
Now….look what I have, my very own ramp too get me up and down the step….
See, it works everytime – now I can come and go as I please again – this had made me very happy
Even the chips are not a problem anymore -
Here’s me on the way for a lie down, watching mum all afternoon has made me very tired!!
I am so happy I can go back to enjoying an afternoon in the garden :) Please excuse the mess – they tell me they are building an arbour – whatever that is – I don’t think it’s for me!!

hello Oscar-- I was going to suggest mum bought you some doggy shoes but I can see that 'your humans' are a clever lot ( you've trained them very well) and have solved the problem..x

Aaaw he's lovely Scottish, even doggies like to be independant don't they, can see Oscar loves his new ramp and path :-)))

The garden alterations are ideal for Oscar.
He obviously approves ..
Ideal for elderly Dachshunds :o)

Oscar says thank you very much for your support and lovely comments. He has his independence again!
Dachs are a lovely breed Meadowland...we lost his brother Otto 6 years ago to back problems and Oscar has been on painkillers for the last 5 1/2. He is the most gentle natured dog I have ever came across.
He didn't want to use it at first but we lined up a row of doggy treats and of he went.....
who said you can't teach old dogs new tricks!!!!!

Hello Oscar, how lovely to meet you and what a dear patient dog you are. I'm very impressed with your blog writing, it is excellent and I have put it on my favourites. I really hope you enjoy your new views of the garden - you are a lucky dog having such kind owners.

Oh Oscar, you're such a pet, I loved your story. It was very good of your Mam to make life easier for you wasn't it? After all, you need to supervise her when she's busy in the garden. lol
