How about my Jack and the beanstalks?

Many of the members are growing Amaryillis this year as noticed by the stunning photos and blogs.

Well 2 weeks ago today I rescued 2 from a sale table and duly potted them up.

This is Jewel a white semi double bloom. It was severly etiolated and had dent in the stem where it pushed against other structures.

This is Exotic Star and is a bicoloured reddy pink/cream flower. It looks to be only leaves.

So I took them into work and arranged them on an internal window sill overlooking a corridor.

After a couple of days Jewel is straightening up and Exotic Star is starting to extend its leaves.

The dent is still there but not affecting the plant and doesnt need its support either.

I decided to measure this leaf to see how fast it was growing. Hence the ruler. By the end of the day it has grown 5mm so a bit.

But overnight….. wow.

On closer inspection it is clearly FLOWERS :o) and whats more there are 4.

Jewel has also come on a lot too.

Yesterday this bud is swelling well so when I go in on Monday I am hoping it will be fully open.

Hope these live up to the anticipation my immediate lab co-users have had to endure. I keep going on about how brilliant plants are.

More photos to follow later : hopefully.

they are amazing for fast growth sea... one min nothing them beautifull flowers, mind you two of mine are doing great but the third isnt, its peeping but not changing at all, im going to feed it tomoz and see if that does anything to help it start, maybe it wont grow at all im not sure, but wouldnt you think as its peeps through it would follow through,, look forward to seeing yours in flower sea... just shows how many differant ones there are as all members this year have differant ones, love them all ;o))

I dont think a feed will help as the bulb is full of food. try popping it in a different room with a different temp for a day and then back with the others. sometimes the 'shock' will do the trick.

Sbg what an amazing plant. I bet you couldn't wait to get up in the mornings to see how much more growth it had made. It was so grateful to be saved, and knew it was loved - stupid, I know, but I do think they appreciate being loved. Can't wait to see the ultimate flowering.
