A happy afternoon!

I do love pricking out and potting up, so I have been in my sunny greenhouse, pricking out Cornflowers. In the past few days, I have done two dozen Petunias (white ones and purple ones), a handful of Penstemon, Primula denticulate, Malva, and two trays of Nepeta ‘clarkii’.

Baskets at the ready with Bacopa, Geraniums, Verbena and a Fuchsia in the centre of each.

Libertia ‘Taupo Blaze’; Loropetalum ‘Firedance’

Evening sun

Exochorda ‘the bride’

Clematis montana

Bluebells under Eleagnus ‘Quicksilver’

Hope you’ve all had a cheerful day :)

Thanks Pam. Aren't we lucky to be having such a gorgeous Spring . . . (ooops, did I say that out loud?!)

We've had lovely sunshine here on the west coast of Ireland. Sadly I had to spend most of the day indoors, working ;/ But! I sneaked away during lunchtime and went to the local GC to buy seedlings for the veg plot (got few kinds of lettuce and cauliflower) which I've just finished planting. And I think I can already hear the slugs munching on them!

Looks like you've got tons of lovely plants in your greenhouse. Are these the type you'd grow every year or do you experiment with new plants?

Sheila , how busy you've been .
I've potted up lots of seedlings , only 2000 to go !
Running out of space ( and energy) ; does your neck ache from looking down on to the bench? Mine does .
Your garden is looking good .
It is such an amazing Spring , but we have had a really brisk breeze here near the coast , which makes the greenhouse a bit of a haven .

Hi Jagienka . . . a bit of both. It's the first time that I've taken cuttings of Verbena (last September), so I'm pleased that worked, and it's the first time I've grown Penstemon, Nepeta and Cornflower from seed. Tiny seedlings of the Primula were given to me by a friend; I've grown Malva before from my own saved seed. I bought seedlings of the purple and white Petunia from the GC, and every year buy plugs of Bacopa. Probably too much information!

Thanks Driad! Yes, we've had a cool breeze here too, so today the greenhouse was definitely the best place to be . . . my haven too :) I'm running out of space as well, so really looking forward to getting the plants outside. 2,000?! Hope you're joking?!

Oooh....a greenhouse would have been so toasty today! We also have a cool breeze, but nevertheless, It's SPRING! Halleluia! :)))

Sheila you have such a pretty garden.

You must feel very satisfied when you look into the greenhouse and see the results of a lot of hard work - well worth it though :-)

You've been incredibly busy Sheila. Your garden looks amazing bathed in sunlight.

Your greenhouse looks lovely and tidy Sheila! Haven't got a greenhouse here (but I'm working on it...) I had one in a previous house, I loved working out there pricking out the seedlings - Love that gorgeous damp smell you get when watering too...! :D

Lovely photos Sheila :o)

Many thanks Chris, Angie, Tracey and Annie . . . I do love my greenhouse, and it's definitely tidier than the house!

Its been a beautiful spring as you say but did I hear that easter monday is letting the side down?

Proper job, Sheila! I spent some time yesterday pricking out cosmos, which has been very successful. I'm fairly new to sowing, although I used to do tomatoes each year - I buy young plants now, because I only grow about 10 vines. I'm afraid I tend to forget seeds if I try to do too many. But the cosmos have done really well, and I hope they'll grow as well as last year's did. Your greenhouse looks good. Mine is smaller, and doubles up as a garden shed at the moment. That is something that is definitely going to change this year - OH has promised to help me bottom it, which will be great!

Your garden looks really lovely Sheila and you are doing well in your g'house, everything looking strong and healthy, it gets to be a bit of a juggling session to fit them in when potting them all up,I nipped out to do the watering and put the shade nets in place before things got scorched but otherwise I had a housework and shopping day today, so was very good considering how nice the weather was, lol...
Lovely photographs Sheila...

We had lovely sunshine all day too but a chill east wind this morning. You've got a tremendous amount done in the greenshouse Sheila - brilliant - and all so clean and tidy. Mine shed's all over spilled compost at present. Its so lovely to have a greenhouse. We had to leave our old one behind and daren't have one here because of the strong winds and the trees so have to make do with a wallhouse. I love your last photo, blue and white are gorgeous together - we have a few anemone blanda underneath magnolia stellata for the same reason. Love your fourth pic as well.

Many thanks for your lovely comments Mel, Lincs and Stera. I'm almost running out of pots . . . OH's refrain "I thought you weren't going to grow so many plants from seed this year?!!"

17 Apr, 2014

Ah yes - we all say that sort of thing! Mine's usually "I don't think I'll do so many containers this year" ...

My, you've been a busy girl, SB! Your garden looks lovely. No greenhouse here and planning to dismantle the shed as it would mean we could have a pergola or similar and a raised bed to grow some veg. I save lots of seed each year but rarely get round to sowing, probably because I haven't got a warm place to work in; the wind is still pretty chill as yet and I hate being cold!

Your garden looks lovely and how dedicated you sound with so much going on in your greenhouse. I have only a small wooden leanto and really have never had much success with seeds but very pleased with the asclepias which are coming along a treat and are from saved seeds.
I find cuttings are generally successful so tend to concentrate more on those.

Thanks Linmar . . . I never used to have much success with seeds, but seem to have cracked it this year with lovely 'seed & potting' compost mixed with Vermiculite. Plus I bought some proper little seed trays with plastic cloche-type lids, so am well chuffed :)

Glad your asclepias are doing well.

Sheila you have been a busy bee, so many plants!! we have no room for a greenhouse here .....Peter really misses not having one, if he could squeeze one in he would!! Your garden looks lovely.

19 Apr, 2014

Thanks Dotty. I do feel for Peter . . . couldn't cheer myself up without my sanctuary!

Lovely pic of your garden Sheila, have you put any baskets or pots out yet? I have, but keep checking internet for night frosts. How I envy you your greenhouse. Your exochorda and clematis are a little ahead of mine, but mine will be in flower any day now:-)

20 Apr, 2014

Perhaps we could put one on stilts lol

20 Apr, 2014

Thanks very much Ba, no my baskets are still in the greenhouse - they are heavy! But I open it up as much as possible every day. Looking forward to getting everything planted when the danger of frost is past.

20 Apr, 2014

Hopefully it will not be long now....

25 Apr, 2014

Fingers crossed Dotty . . .
