Prunus Autumnalis

OH was out in the front garden this morning raking leaves, and then took these photos of our winter cherry blossm.
There’s a wide grass verge in front of the houses opposite and this wonderful Oak tree is on that verge
So lucky to have such a glorious blue sky today, but it is freezing cold outside! My greenhouse went down to -1 degree overnight, but strangely no frost. Lovely to see the sunshine, and the birds are all over the feeder – happy days π.

Two lovely trees. I had a winter cherry blossom in my previous garden and miss it since I moved here.

Agreed, Sheila, a lovely bright sky this morning, such a contrast to yesterday. I, too, like your view and would love a winter cherry myself.

Lovely photos; the trees are beautiful.
We have a small layer of snow so no gardening today. The pond even had a layer of ice on it. None of it has thawed today, so snuggled in front of the fire.

Many thanks Hywel, Klahanie, Ange and Eileen. The water in our bird bath was solid ice so I smashed it β¦ the birds were happier on the feeder though π.

A lovely view Sheila and the cherry tree is so pretty!
I imagine you would get a good selection of birds with having these trees close by!
We had a thick frost yesterday morning , but only a sprinkling of snow!
There are four different bird baths around the gardens and just poured hot water into them to break the ice, but by lunch time were frozen again!

Thanks Rose ... ooh, that is seriously cold! Yes, masses of birds on the feeder yesterday - I've never before seen four goldfinches at once - they obviously knew that they needed to stock up with food to keep warm.

I love your tree Sheila and the majestic oak in the background. Sooo cold, but winter does have it's treats doesn't it..:) I've been and bought sunflower hearts and fat balls today, so hopefully the birds will be back. I did have a dozey butterfly on my kitchen window earlier, I took it back in the she'd to hibernate again.

Thanks Janey, you will have very happy birds now. Well done for saving the butterfly! Your shed will hopefully be a tad warmer than my greenhouse β¦ down to -2 last night π.

The pictures of the Prunus & the Oak behind them are great! They look very good against the backdrop of a blue sky! π
Monday here was very cold as well & we had a frost. The temps were down to below zero still when I took our granddaughter to school - they weren't much better when I went back to pick her up again at 3:15! Seems like Thursday will be quite similar only not so cold.
I really love to see the dark blue skies that remind me of the long winter months in Cuenca, Spain. With the high pressure off the Azores we could go for weeks without a cloud in the sky & hardly a breath of wind - but it was much, much colder than here! The blue was so intense as well - it's very rare to get anything like it here in the UK.

A very pretty sight indeed, Sheila! Beautiful blossom with a beautiful crisp blue skyβ¦happy days indeed.

That looks like one of the winter days we wait for! Everything looks so lovely with a bright blue sky above. Sometimes I think that trees look even more beautiful in winter when the sky is like that. The dainty little cherry flowers just add the finishing touch.
We should remember all those poor folk up in the North who after the storm not only have no heating, they have no water either...

Your winter cherry blossoms give a whimsical effect and that's an awesome blue sky. I'm enjoying the cool crisp clean air.

What a lovely view ,Sheila, and your Winter cherry looks pretty, against the backdrop of the Oak tree..Very cold here too,and it's just started to snow again ! It's settling too,so hopefully it won't be as bitterly cold. Forecast to get warmer tomorrow :o)
We were both out gathering leaves this morning, and I was just trying some garden twine around a plant, and my fingers were so numb,I couldn't tie the knot ,and I had only taken my gloves off for a minute to do it ! Made me think of how bad it must be ,for all those who trek to the Arctic circles ,!
Thank goodness we are lucky enough to keep nice and warm indoors. :o)
