The Artist of Gloucester and her garden

Are you sitting comfortably? Well I’ll begin…
High in the hills of Gloucestershire, behind the apple orchard and sheltered by the honey-coloured cotswold stone walls live Prudence, Jazzy and Sluggy:
who welcome you with open paws, wagging their tails behind them!
No wonder these three are so very happy in their beautiful garden with rainbows of colour
And a very happy Lulu who looks after them ~ and they are very well looked after!!
Next door to the three lovely pups live their neigh….bours ~ the very beautiful and elegant Horse family:
The smallest feels the cold and has already been shopping for his winter coat:
Sluggy, Jazzy and Pru are as happy as the day is long, racing, playing and have even been known to sit relaxing on Lulu’s lap!! [not all at once?]
The all important and extremely delicious lunch:
The lady artist does of course live in a chocolate box cottage with roses growing round the walls:
or were they asters:
Giant cardooms soar into the endless skies:
Japanese anemones compete to be the tallest you have ever seen:
A gem of a rose nestles in the new bed
set amongst the most chocolate cosmos I have ever seen:
Tiny treasures peep shyly but beautifully amongst the green:
And delicate pinks flower gracefully:
Along the walled border amongst the chamomile grows the cottage garden ~ looking as though it has freshly arrived from the painter’s palette:
Graceful echinacea:
And hiding amongst the flowers the sweetest little blue butterfly ~ wouldnt you want to rest here in the sun?
The next three plants are simply beautiful ~ either because of the colour, their shape or both, this is one of my favourites for many reasons, not least because of its name which i have spelt wrongly i know ~ but i like it better this way:
Here is the crimson naughtier!:
I love the deep purple ~ lobelia ~ is that right?
And mystic spires ~ gorgeous:
Millie Puss pads softly:
checking quietly while the artist works: pushing the grout securely around the glass pieces:
This is how it should be done: [this is Lulu’s mosaic;] colours chosen, glass cut, broken and placed, glued and finally grouted:
And when all is done return the mosaic for its intended home ~ the rather blank wall that needs a point of interest:
Next day take a small toothbrush, clean the stones and glass to a final polish and place the mosaic
What a lovely day Lulu ~ you have a wonderful talent for encouragement and for seeing the beauty in colours ~ as can be seen from your garden as well as your art, thank you so much ~ I have a lovely reminder of a fabulous day:

1 Sep, 2011
Sticki what does she use to put the mosaic pieces on is it another tile or slate?? Your mosaic looks lovely against the wall by the way:)
1 Sep, 2011
thank you again nana
i used a piece of slate [left over from door step] i think lulu uses slate, wood and possibly stone, things that will stand up to the weather outside, the glue and the grout are waterproof ~ bought from builders merchants.

A magical blog and tour, its great to see Lulu working in her own environment with her pets around her, it all looks so beautiful and must provide lots of inspiration for her fantastic mosaics, loved it all;0))
20 Sep, 2011
it inspired me ~ or lulu did!!! thanks PP
20 Sep, 2011
Hey Lulu did you see that programme on tv about how the racehorse functions...amazing!
20 Sep, 2011
I did Tet, amazing, if a tad gory!! David loved it, esp the breathing problems they sometimes get. Were'nt those lungs incredibal!!
21 Sep, 2011
I cant believe they were 2 metres long! and would agree with David about the breathing probs..not sure I would like to know for certain about being able to scientifically know the diff between sprinters and stayers..half the fun is deciding by the pedigree lol! anyway, one still has to choose the parents and you never know what genes they will inherit..
The other fascinating thing showed how they impact is spread on their feet..I always wondered how such muscular creatures could survive on such delicate looking legs..really fab programme!
21 Sep, 2011
David got annoyed by the DNA re sprinter or stayer!
He took great pleasure in naming every interviewee, racecourse and horse shown on the programe!!
21 Sep, 2011
He knew more than me then, natch, but I have read (or tried to decipher) many of Dr Hill's papers on equine genetics..fascinating stuff, but there are lotsa places I dont want to go..the horse to me is a mysterious magical creature..well not when you muck him out or he bites or kicks..you know what I mean..he's a work of art for the heart, not the science lab!
However, I like to know how it all works so we take care of them better and I dont know if they will ever sort the DNA inconsistencies in the stud book, but for many its the dream of breeding/buying/training/owning a great horse that keeps people striving (and spending lotsa dosh) and that I love to follow.
Many people dont know how huge the bloodstock industry is and how much it contributes to our economy much more than any other sport.
21 Sep, 2011
True Tet!
When are you coming over to see our nags?
21 Sep, 2011
I must..soon..will have a word with Sticki to see if she's game (sure she will, she certainly took to mosaics!) and praps I can bore the pants off David with my paltry knowledge..
21 Sep, 2011
Lol! Hope to see you very soon then! x
21 Sep, 2011
