Two years on!

It has been a long time, well two years in fact since I last logged on to GOY. I don’t know if any of GOY members remember me? My name is TEDS. We used to have a very small back garden in Devon at Rose Cottage which we created from an overgrown patch the builder had left. We also created a vegetable plot near the car port at the front of the cottage.

Well a lot has happened in that time and needless to say too much to go into here, but I know how much GOY members like to share their gardens so I thought you might like to share in our journey so far with our new one. We moved about a year ago to a bungalow just round the corner from Rose Cottage and have spent the last year doing up the very neglected bungalow inside and out. The garden was completely over grown with 6ft of brambles so much so that we only discovered what we had once we started to clear them away.

The lovely thing has been that when all the weeds, brambles and overgrown trees and junk were removed you could see that at one time this garden had been loved and cared for, and had obviously been a pride and joy. We are committed and determined to bring the garden back to its former glory and for it to be cherished and enjoyed once more. We still have a long way to go years in fact before we can say we have achieved our goal but from time to time I will post up our progress and I hope you will find it of interest as you share in the discovery and making of a garden.

The photos are before work commenced and after, they are taken at the end of the garden. I have now started to plant up this part of the garden, and Paul my hubby is building some more steps which will lead down to a picnic table at the bottom. The steps you can see in one of the photos where already in the garden under all the brambles. The last picture is of the summer house we sat out there yesterday for the first time and had a cup of tea!

Welcome back!

wow, that's some differences there! not surprised it took so long, you'd need some specialist interention at times, I'd think.

it's such a shame when a garden that has been loved gets neglected to that extent. it must have taken years for that much to have happened.

hope your new home brings as much joy as your new garden - lucky you, moving just round the corner! makes things so much easier when a move is local, or fairly so.

Please keep us updated about future improvements!

Hi Teds welcome back, I often wondered where you had disappeared to, I well remember your garden and can now see and understand the reason for your absence, can see how busy you have been and going to be in the future, it sure looks huge compared to what you had before but how thrilling to bring a garden back to life, I like the steps and the slope and will follow with interest...
Wishing you all the best in your new home and with all the work in the garden.....

Welcome back Teds and congratulations on making such a huge difference to your new patch, it took me back to when we started a new garden at house we had , the garden was part of a field and very hard work good luck with it ,there's nothing quite like sitting in a garden you have worked from scratch !

True Fran! That's incredible Teds. What a huge task you've taken on there! Mine wasn't anything like that daunting. Your progress is amazing! Well done to both of you. I dread to think how many skips you filled. But now you have a lovely big garden, and thinking back to how creative you were in your old garden..well, I'm looking forward to seeing what you do. Your Heuchera bank is similar to mine. So much so, it really made me stop...thought you'd been in my garden...until I saw the seat! :)

Wow, Teds - that's quite a task! How exciting, though. It looks as if it's going to be a most beautiful garden. I shall be watching out for any updates. Good luck!
