Mild mid-December ...

Opposite my front door, the evergreens are growing enthusiastically, and giving welcome winter interest …

……………………………………………………………………..

Nearby, the Sarcococca is full of flower buds and berries …

……………………………………………………………………..

In my back garden, the rain-soaked Skimmia is coming into bloom. The jet black of the Ophiopogon contrasts well with the Skimma and the vivid green Heuchera.

……………………………………………………………………..

The recent relentless wet weather has left my pavings covered with a slimy coating. I don’t have a pressure washer, but am always careful to prevent slippery paths.
I find that a ‘quick fix’ is to use a wire brush on each slab, and scratch several times in each direction. This gives a temporary grip to prevent accidental skidding, and I can return on future days to scrub them thoroughly.

……………………………………………………………………..

But I always give immediate priority to the dog run … not wishing my dogs to slip over, and end up with broken legs. These pavings receive an energetic scrubbing, which is very exhausting, but worthwhile.
Here’s Truffle, approving the clean pavings …

……………………………………………………………………..

… and Conker …
Thankfully he is now in better health, and looking perky …

……………………………………………………………………..

Finally, another pic. from my front garden. This is my viburnum … a pretty shrub to brighten up the winter.

It has lots of blooms and needs little attention.
I would certainly recommend it … a definite delight during these shorter, darker days …

Hello Tt, you have some lovely bright evergreens there, don't they come into their own in this gloomy winter weather? Anything golden is a hit with me, especially my grasses and rushes which are stunning right now.

Good to see Conker looking well again and cheeky Truffle,
gorgeous boys! Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas. X

Hello Tt, As I have commented before I love Truffle, more white than my childhood fox terrier, but same inquistive face.
Ps and the Skimmia.

looks good tt, my paving slabs are a combination of a revolting algae green and dirty brown, going to have to get the elbow grease out soon

Linda ... Today Conker had his final tablet of yet another antibiotic course, so I hope those have worked well.

Thank you Siris ... I'm glad that Truffle reminds you of your childhood Smooth Fox Terrier.

Hi Chris ... thanks. I'm pleased to have so many flowers blooming, and to have Conker looking healthier.

Dotty ... Some years ago I made a deliberate decision to plant lots of evergreens. My pets are ready for Christmas !

Thanks Neena ... there are lots more slabs to scrub, when I can find the energy, but the most important pavings in the dog run are clean and safe !

Thank you, Hywel ... Truffle awarded me ten out of ten for my clean pavings. ;o)

Good luck, Maisie's Dad with cleaning your garden slabs .. it is very hard work.

Hello Pam... thanks ... the dog run is such a useful area. I find my work on the upkeep is very worthwhile.

TT Those evergreens (and golds) come into their own at this time of year. Your hard work and great instincts on what goes where is inspirational. Have a lovely Christmas with your little family and good health for all of you in the coming year.

What a lovely Viburnum that one is! And its so good to see Conker looking perky and as gorgeous as usual - you had us worried a while there boy!
Brilliant planting of your evergreens - your garden is an inspiration Terra.

Happy Christmas to all four of you!

Lovely cheery pics of your plantings, TT, apparently this mild weather is going to be around a bit longer yet. The black grass is placed perfectly to set off the skimmia & heuchera, they all look so good.
I use a very stiff broom on my paving but it's still hard work & takes a lot of puff.
Truffle stands beautifully, he always looks like he's ready for anything, lol. Very pleased to see Conker looking well too, you must spend hours grooming him.

the pooches look ready for anything. hope you have a lovely Christmas.

Thanks Amy for your good wishes, and happy holidays to you and your family. x x

Hello Scotsgran ... Thank you. I hope all is well with you and that you enjoy the seasonal festivities.

Hi Stera ... best wishes to you and yours, and happy gardening for 2016. I'm thankful that Conker's health has improved.

Green finger ... the stiff broom idea is good, but my pavings only respond to a wire brush. Cleaning pavings is hard work, isn't it ! Truffle and Conker say hi !

Thank you Seaburngirl ... my pets are in party mood already ! Hoping you and your family have a happy Christmas.

Thanks Homebird ... Season's Greetings and happy gardening to you in 2016.

19 Dec, 2015

I like evergreens too TT, without them our gardens would be very dull at this time of year. One of my favourites is the Winter Box, such beautiful perfume!
Good to know Conker is feeling much better, I'm sure Truffle has missed playing with his playmate.
Enjoy your Christmas with your two boys โ˜บ

Hi Waddy ... Thanks.
yes, the evergreens really enhance the gardens, especially in winter. We're all looking forward to the holiday season. :o)

Oh how lovely Terra. I am thrilled to bots to see Conker looking so wonderfully well...he has a special place in my heart...so beautiful and clever. :) your evergreens are looking wonderful. I hope you wont mind me saying so, but I feel you would benefit from treating yourself to a power washer! I use Algon on my slabs and it makes a huge difference. You water it on with a watering can and leave to dry and in a couple of days the algae just disappears. Sadly I didn't have time to do the patio this autumn and its in a similar state to yours. :(

20 Dec, 2015

Lovely photos & I'mglad to see both dogs looking so beautiful & healthy. It must take a lot of work keeping Conkers coat as good as that. Happy Christmas to you all.

21 Dec, 2015

Thank you Feverfew ... Season's greetings to you and yours. Yesterday morning Conker had a thorough grooming. He loves being brushed !

Thanks Karen ... at the moment, all pets here seem healthy, for which I'm very thankful.
Yes, next year I must have another think about getting a power-washer. Please tell me more about Algon. If it leaks down under slabs can it kill shrubs by reaching their roots ?

21 Dec, 2015

No Terra....Its actually just industrial strength vinegar! I wouldn't water it near plants, but it doesn't stop weeds growing on my slabs, so I would guess it won't harm plants as long as you don't water them with it. :)
