My used postage stamps …
… soon to be sent to the Oldies Club.
Used stamps are welcomed by the Oldies Club … a dog rescue, run solely by volunteers, that specialises in rescuing and rehoming older dogs – aged 7 years plus.
Please send your used postage stamps to ~
Oldies Club Stamps, 35 Belle Vue Street,
Healey, Batley, West Yorkshire. WF17 8DD. Thank you. :o)
The Oldies Club first came into existence in the Spring of 2005, and in March 2007 the Oldies Club proudly became Registered Charity number 1118246.
The charity does not have kennels or a central base..Rather than placing dogs in kennels, the club prefers to care for dogs in a normal home environment. The Oldies Club therefore uses foster homes.
The foster homes are spread around the country and each of them has been carefully checked. Before placing a dog in a foster home, the charity tries, as far as possible, to ensure that the likes, dislikes and needs of the dog are known … to ensure the foster home is suitable, and one where the dog will be happy.

The rescued cats in the top three pics, belong to my
friend. The cats were from The Animal Welfare Trust.
My thanks to the many members who’ve replied to me
recently, giving me permission to include their photos.
They are for another blog coming up soon. :o)
Sometimes Postman Pat and his black-and-white cat deliver very cute little parcels…:o)

Love the cat photos . . . I have a bag of used stamps that I keep saying I'll donate . . . still haven't got around to it !
28 Feb, 2010
What a wonderful charity, not everyone has the energy to cope with a bouncy young pup.At least dogs from rescue centres are more likely to be placed with an appropriate family/person too. Most of the time it isn't the dogs fault they are homeless.
Lovely cats TT they have found a caring home :))
28 Feb, 2010
Brilliant blog, TT, especially highlighting the Oldies Club. I always look at their site although I still have my own special oldie with me :) Adopting an older dog really appeals to me as I get older too! I will be posting a photo of a special rescue cat soon too!
28 Feb, 2010
Thanks, Megan.... please send the used stamps to the Oldies Club..
I'll add the address to the blog above...
Hi Aster... Yes, gorgeous cats ! My friend gave a home to both, because the cats were related and didn't want to be separated :o)
These dogs at the Oldies Club are, as you say, often needing home through no fault of their own...
28 Feb, 2010
Hi Gee.
Looking forward to the pic of the special rescue cat. ! :o)
Glad to know your special Chloe oldie is still doing well.. xxx
28 Feb, 2010
i will keep this address thanx tt,the pics awwwwww..:o))
28 Feb, 2010
Hi Joanella...
Thanks for taking note of the address...
I have friends who give me their used stamps too, so I send them all off at the same time... :o)
28 Feb, 2010
hi tt i will be asking mine 4 theirs too :o))
28 Feb, 2010
~sometimes the "oldies" have had a quiet gentle life and can't cope with noisy children,it's a brilliant idea to take on these animals and find homes for them~the local RSPCA centre always does a write up of the dogs they get and will say what type of environment they need after an assessment period~
28 Feb, 2010
Hi Arlene.
Because these oldies have been fostered in people's homes, their temperaments will have been well-assessed. Nice to take on an older dog if we have the time and the facilities...
28 Feb, 2010
Thanks for a great blog TT. The rescue centres do a wonderful job. My Blodyn came from one.
I don't have much mail with stamps these days but when I do I'll save them for the Oldies Club.
28 Feb, 2010
Hi Tt. Is that Conker? Looking fantastic. Its great to see all the good things people do for animals that need the help. Sometimes it becomes too easy for people to forget about pets and its sad to see the terrible results but with charitys like this you can see a glimmer of hope for some if not for all. Its great to see and long may this charity go to help these guys :-))

~Brillant TT~we have always had puppies apart from Browser whose owner died~she ran a pub in Port Talbot and he loved Beer.
The son didn't know what to do with him being at work all day, and shut him up in a shed~he almost chewed the door off and was as thin as a rake when we got him~
He was about 4 years old and Caz was only 2~he became her dog and would go anywhere and do anything for her.We had him until he was about 13~ he died of old age!
It is wonderful that there are people who only take on old dogs knowing that they will become attached but may only have them for a few years~
28 Feb, 2010
Thanks TT , my stamps have usually been sent to a charity well before now , it just so happens that this year they are still sitting here waiting to be seen to , I will get on with it and send them to the address you have given , ..
I love the photos of Conker and Truffle , Conker look so well :o))
28 Feb, 2010
What a touching story Arlene, TT Conker is a Star, I don't think I've ever seen a more photogenic dog, he's truly adorable. I too don't get so many stamps these days but I'm not sure what you mean. Must they be present day used stamps? I have my old stamp collector's Album somewhere, would that do/
28 Feb, 2010
Interesting, TT :-))
28 Feb, 2010
Heron~they would be worth more probably ~Llys Nini always puts items of value on ebay for charities~they were given a complete collection of teapots which made quite a bit~
28 Feb, 2010
Hi TT..... lovely pics of your doggies..... will save any stamps i get but these days you dont get much mail with stamps on do you.... apart from xmas.....love the cat pics.....
28 Feb, 2010

28 Feb, 2010
Thanks everyone.
I'm pleased the information is useful.
The photos of Conker were this time last year, just before he became ill with cancer... He is now trying to get fit again, and to grow new hair, following all his weeks of chemotherapy in 2009.
28 Feb, 2010
No doubt it's a case of 'gently does it' with Conker after his ordeal, hope he gets back to normal SAP. I can see why you're so proud of him TT. no doubt he feels the same.
28 Feb, 2010
Thank you, Heron, for being so understanding...
Conker is gradually getting back some strength and health....
... and we make every day fun, whatever the weather...
just about to upload a photo to prove it..LOL...
28 Feb, 2010

28 Feb, 2010

28 Feb, 2010

28 Feb, 2010
Tell me about it Jane...
I keep looking at Happy Jack Terrier ( Dogs Needing Homes in Oldies Club Care ).... reminds me a bit of my old Bonsai the Welsh Terrier..... x
28 Feb, 2010
A Cup match on tv now so I'm off to collect used stamps from Mum and , together with mine, will package them up for "The Oldies" . . . many thanks for showing the address.
28 Feb, 2010
Lol...Megan...see you are as thrilled with football as I am !
Terra...off now to look ! x
28 Feb, 2010
Football-free household here, too.. apart from those footballs which the dogs play with...
Jane.... I hope you find Happy Jack...
and Megan..good luck with finding all the used stamps. :o)
28 Feb, 2010
Happy Jack looks a lovely old boy TT are you tempted ? :)
28 Feb, 2010
Hi Aster... yes, tempted every time I see a Terrier with eyebrows and moustache, like Happy Jack, or lovely Cory on Irish's recent photos...
...but Truffle would protest, methinks... :o)
28 Feb, 2010
Back now.Yes found Happy Jack......and dozens of other beauties ! You were right...oh if only they get good homes. Some of those stories are heartbreaking....strangely enough...there is a greyhound rescue place near us...have been debating for a while....their fate once racing days are over doesnt bear thinking about..x
28 Feb, 2010
It gets to you, doesn't it Jane....
yes, the Oldies Club has dogs all across the UK, so that might be easier for some prospective owners who can't travel too far....
Greyhounds need less exercise than many people think.
They are very quiet indoors... Main consideration is that many of them have the instinct, as with many Sight Hounds, to chase anything which moves... rabbits, cats etc....
With the wildlife in your garden, a breed less enthusiastic about chasing might be better.. Not all Greyhounds have the chasing instinct.. but it is something to keep in mind...
28 Feb, 2010
Yes Terra...also read the article on the webpage about cats and dogs.....some very useful and appropriate tips to consider there. Can definitely cope with the idea of getting an older dog though.....this highlights their plight.Happy Jack does remind me of your Bonsai. Put your paws over your ears Truffle ! Lol
28 Feb, 2010
Lol. Jane... A good thing Truffle doesn't know how I drooled over the pics of Cory and Happy Jack..
Good of you to consider coping with an older dog, Jane, because both of us are aware that, after a few years, it usually means caring for an old dog through an illness, and then saying a loving goodbye...
You are one strong, lady, Jane...
... it will be a very lucky "oldie" dog which has you as an owner... xxx
28 Feb, 2010
Aw...thats kind of you Terra...thank you...just one small matter to get out of the way first........xxx
28 Feb, 2010
Yes.... but nice to have the idea of an "oldie" in mind for the future... xxx
28 Feb, 2010
: o ) : o )
28 Feb, 2010
Good blog TT. Don't get many stamps but will ask friends and rellies to save for me and send them all in one go. :~)).
28 Feb, 2010
Thanks, Skillen..
That pic of my stamps photographed above, is made up of those given to me by friends as well as my own...
I don't get that much incoming mail ! LOL.
28 Feb, 2010
~we get a lot of mail but hardly any with stamps~ when you go to the post office these days they print out white labels and put those on instead!
28 Feb, 2010
That's a good point, Arlene..
Most of my stamps were on packages received by friends at Christmas. However, maybe if there are less postage stamps around, then those we do send to the Oldies will have a greater value... can only hope...
28 Feb, 2010
I`ve just look at the site Terra and one dog in particular caught my eye, a black lab called Dylan. He is only eight so I wouldn`t exactly call him an oldie but he was gorgeous. He is going through the adoption process though which is wonderful for him. How lovely that the dogs aren`t in a kennel environment, I know some dogs really don`t like them at all, Jake was one of them.
Sandra x
28 Feb, 2010
Hi Sandra..
That's great news for Dylan that he's in the adoption process.
Yes.. there are some dogs in particular who suffer in a kennel environment ..and in fact, they are so stressed in kennels, that they are the ones who don't get homed so quickly, because they seem noisy and restless, whereas in a private home with a family, they would be quiet and more laid back....
Good for you that you took on wonderful Jake. xxx
28 Feb, 2010
A lovely blog TT, although I dont have dogs or cats of my own because of allergy to hair and fur it`s nice to see pics of other peoples pets and good to know that so many people care about what happens to the many strays. I hadn`t heard of the Oldies Club but will start saving my stamps from now on.
1 Mar, 2010
I don't get many stamps TT, so much post is 'franked' now, but I will remember the oldies club when I do get some. :-)
1 Mar, 2010
Thank you Stroller and Pottygardener....
The Oldies Club will be pleased to have your stamps...
Maybe because less stamps are used these days, the stamps we are able to send to the Oldies Club will be of even more value.. Let's hope ! :o)
1 Mar, 2010
Hi TT, am really new to all this blog stuff, just wanted to say ! couldn't agree more bout the oldies dogs. I got two Jack Russel crosses from local rescue centre and they were 10years old when I took them on, and they were wonderful little dogs.Sadly I lost them both to old age, Taff lived to be 19, and Patch lived till she was 21! So it proves the oldies can still have a long and healthy life, so always worth offering a warm loving home to, I am so very very glad we did as my 'girls' brought much love, loyalty and laughter into our home and hearts.
4 Mar, 2010
Hi Floribunda..
Thanks for visiting my blog... Wow.... 19 and 21 years ! You obviously looked after Taff and Patch very well... and, yes the older doggies do bring so much fun and enjoyment ...
Well done on looking after your two special "girls" for the second halves of their lives... Looking forward to seeing you lots more on GoY :o)
4 Mar, 2010
Sorry TT, lagging behind as usual. Lovely photos of the cats, just love them. Will be keeping my stamps in future, every little helps.
4 Mar, 2010
Thanks, Bob...
I've been busy gardening this week..
...not easy to keep up with everything, is it...
I'm lagging behind as well...
Thanks for saving the stamps for the Oldies :o)
4 Mar, 2010
Well you have done it again TT a terrific Blog, it took me ages reading
all the Comments enjoying every one of them. I think the Oldies
Organization is wonderful, its so nice hearing about the help these
poor animals are receiving,it makes us Animal lovers so happy!
Its a wonder you get time for your lovely Garden....., seeing as you spend most
of your time helping others. Loving all the pics. especially Conker and
Truffle....: -)))))
5 Mar, 2010
Hi Freesiaperson...
Very lovely comments...thank you...
The Oldies Club does such good work...
I do make time for gardening...in fact I've been out in my gardens with my dogs most of this week, so having trouble keeping up with GoY !
Conker and Truffle say hello and thank you. :o)))
5 Mar, 2010
I've just added to my main part of the blog, the pet names of the dogs and cats featured on the ten stamps. :o)
6 Mar, 2010
Many Thanks for bringing this to attention, Tt & Co. Can't remember seeing requests for used stamps here in years. Will know what to do with them now. :-))
7 Mar, 2010
Thanks, David...
It's interesting and fun for children to ask their friends for used stamps so quite a big package of stamps can be sent off to the Oldies Club. :o)
