Garden revamp DAY TWO

All the garden team have left the building…lol Everything they promised to do has been completed…I just have one small area to fill with sand, pebbles to put some pots on. Despite ordering another 3 ton of topsoil and more turf there wasn’t any topsoil left to complete the other cut out area of the patio…thus my decision to use sand, pebbles and pots.

In going through my photos I don’t have a very good photo of the area cut out of the patio so will try for a better photo later. For now, these are photos of the cut out area (complete with the mess of pots etc., most of which have been cleared out now).

The bedding plants visible in the photo are waiting to be planted up into pots :) ~

So here’s a progression of photos which I took throughout the day as the work progressed~~~

The mini-growhouse has now been situated on the paved area behind the laurel tree (when I took the photo it was still on the soil as the grouting was still drying on the newly paved area~~~

The small paved square in the top left of the photo is where the small summer house will sit but we won’t be getting delivery of that for a couple of months~~~

The hose is looking a bit messy but is a necessity so the turf and borders get a good soaking. Hopefully I can take better photos of the garden later this evening or tomorrow and will put these on a subsequent blog.

What a transformation Jacquie. I am so pleased for you. It is going to look absolutely super when you have planted it all up. Good work done there. Great.

Another transformation from yesterday! It's looking fab, doesn't the grass make such a difference too! The curvy patio and borders are just lovely, I'm sure you're just thrilled to bits! :0)

It looks lovely, The grass and the borders really do the trick!

Oh Whistonlass, that looks really good, so pleased for you, I knew the wait would be worth it. Enjoy yourself planting up your plants and make sure you get time to sit in that lovely area now. You deserve it.

1 Jun, 2011

How exciting, loved seeing the lawn grow and with such wonderful curves!

1 Jun, 2011

You've all judged my reaction to the garden team's work correctly....I am jumping for joy here :) lol It is such a stark contrast to what we have looked out on in our garden for the last 20 years...it doesn't yet feel possible it is our garden!

They worked really hard and although I've still got a fair amount of tweaking to do it's no problem. I can potter away at my own speed now and continue with my dream of making the space my own, as energy and budget allows.

Thanks for your lovely comments and yes, OOil...we will be sure to sit out and enjoy the garden space. Even noticed the birds excitedly chirping up in the hawthorn tree as if they realized the space was being prettyfied and it wouldn't be long until the birdhouse was out for them. I have to paint it yet and then find it a nice home.

1 Jun, 2011

Its getting there WLass, and I think the best is yet to come when you can arrange and re-arrange the planting putting your own stamp on things.

1 Jun, 2011

Wow!!! I love seeing progress really do - and what a progress - good hard work really rewarding for your garden - looks a treat - I bet you are so happy :):):):):)

im sure you will thoroughly enjoy and appreciate it and im sure we will be able to share it too ~ with your photos.

1 Jun, 2011

What a difference, Jacquie - it looks SO much better, doesn't it ? By the time you've set all your plants in it will look gorgeous - hopefully just what you wanted. See - everything comes to those who wait, especially the good ones !

1 Jun, 2011

That is just great,Jacquie..and I bet you can't believe its almost done..you now have another room to sit and relax in..and the tidying up will be much better than doing the inside! Lol.I love the shape, and the planting that has been done already...and you have all the summer in front of you,to enjoy it :o)

1 Jun, 2011

Isn't it looking so much better already .. and that's before it's fully planted up! Jacquie, you must be thrilled with the progress in just two days ... I know I would be! The area where you'll have a Summerhouse ... will that get sun at the start or end of the day ? Lucy will be in her element with the new garden ... : o ))

1 Jun, 2011

The sun will be mid-afternoon if my memory is correct, Shirley. I will have to look more closely as with the fencing in situ now it does give a bit of shade. I think it will be a fairly sheltered location.

Lucy loves the new space. I am sure my sleeping will go better too with all the extra fresh air and exercise I am getting out in the "back 40" (aka "garden).

And yes....I am thrilled at the transformation in just two days....it's certainly been worth the wait :)

change is good ! & what a superb transformation, really uplifts doesnt it W.
I'm halfway through my re-vamp today, 20 tons of gravel being delivered tomorrow, all go isnt it ? :-)

1 Jun, 2011

Looking good :)

1 Jun, 2011

Wow! 20 tons of gravel...that's a lot to shift, Bampy!!! It is the right time of year to have these kind of projects and I think you'll be totally fit shifting all that gravel.

Thanks Sue and Bampy for your kind comments.

Wow!
What a transformation from your last blog pictures !
Your curved borders and new lawn look lovely.. You sure groundforce didn't turn up? I can't wait to see when you have planted and how everything grows over the coming months.. After reading your blog i'm so pleased for you after having to wait so long for this to happen :-)

2 Jun, 2011

Well!!! Superb! Lovely curves everywhere..and doesnt it look HUGE now?? your tree stands out, your painted fence looks good and once your climbing rose gets going you will have a lovely little private oasis where you, OH and Lucy can play all summer long. They say June is going to be sunny, hot and dry, so keep the hose handy lol! That lawn will soon be OH's pride and joy, you wait and see.
So thrilled for you Jacquie...we have all waited so long with you ...its now an amazing space ready to blossom

2 Jun, 2011

Aww thanks Bill & Tetra...the long wait has been so worth it. One of the first things I did this morning was go down the stairs to the landing and open the curtains to survey "my kingdom"...lol It was all still there and to look out and see green grass and my dreams becoming reality was absolutely a wonderful feeling.

I'm off to a friend's house later to pick up some plants she has for me and then I'll be back in the garden to do some more tweaking. I hope the sun shines today...it's a bit grey and overcast out there. I'll water the turf again this morning if the sun doesn't make an appearance.

I am so glad I have all my GoY friends to share my happiness....you're all so encouraging....my own cheer leaders ! x

2 Jun, 2011

are you out there on your deck chair now WL?

2 Jun, 2011

It's very cloudy and grey here today, Sticky....and I've been baking this morning so I can take some cupcakes to my friend this afternoon when I go to visit her and collect some plants she has for me :)

So, although I've been several times to the window and looking out at what seems a good dream (lol) I haven't begun any projects in the garden yet. I will soon put the hose/sprinkler on so the grass continues to thrive.

Sun is predicted in the NW for Friday and if it arrives I will be out on the patio pottering and reclining on the lawn chair :)

2 Jun, 2011

i hope you have a lovely time ~ im sure you are going to love your beautiful oasis! have fun with the cup cakes

2 Jun, 2011

I love it W.lass, those curvy borders are gorgeous.

2 Jun, 2011

Cupcakes delivered, dinner finished with, plants waiting in the back garden to be dealt with tomorrow and I'm trying to keep awake...shattered after all our excitement...lol

Glad to hear so many of you like the 'new' garden :) It's a dream come true!

2 Jun, 2011

Congratulations Jacquie, your garden looks absolutely lovely, you certainly chose well when you hired those gardeners, they have done a wonderful job, and your lovely curved borders will look stunning when its all planted and finished. I bet you and Hubby are over the moon with it. It will be quite exciting doing all your planting and then watching them grow and spread. Lucy seems to like her new garden, you wait till the lawn starts growing, they love a bit of new grass, it helps if they get a hairball and they use it as a kind of medicine. We have got terrible strong cold winds again today, its really too uncomfortable to go in the garden, but I have been planting some clematis and bedding plants today, I have got so many to plant . I have taken so many fushia cuttings this year, dont know where I'm going to put them all.

4 Jun, 2011

Your curves and stripes look perfect Whistonlass - no, not you in the apron - I mean the garden ! . . lol.
Seriously, it does look great out there and I bet you're itching to get stuck in.
I think you're going to have a wonderful summer. :-))

very clever comment muddywalter!! ~made me laugh ~ it does look lovely and i hope WL and all of us will have a wonderful summer

7 Jun, 2011

lol@ Muddywalter...good comment :) You are right too that I am itching to get stuck in....still lots of ideas percolating in my head and I suppose they will never cease, having been bitten by the gardening bug!

Sticki...I expect we will all have a wonderful summer as long as we have our gardens to potter in and some sunshine so we can enjoy admiring our special spaces too!

7 Jun, 2011

yes you are right WL ~ but even raindrops can look pretty sometimes and certainly the rain brightens up all the colours.

7 Jun, 2011

Yes, Sticki...the rain freshens and brightens the garden... not to mention saves watering so much! lol

7 Jun, 2011

Oh it looks wonderful Jacquie bet you can't stop smiling!! I hope my team make as good a job of mine as yours have of yours! Watch this space (as long as he turns up of course!!)

8 Jun, 2011

What a tremendous job, like giving birth to new earth, Heh, heh. Loved the blog, you are going to be busy, busy.
The grass looks very nice in there, frames the garden.
I can see a couple of Japanese Maples draping softly around your garden. Lovely plans the way you designed it W.Lass.

8 Jun, 2011

your garden will be lovely when it is completed. love the way the grass is cut on the edge.

8 Jun, 2011

Thanks Sk...I do so hope you have a great result when it's your turn to have your garden sorted. I am one happy lady! :)

Adoons, it is a lovely layout and I am very pleased that the basic design was from my plan :) I am having lots of fun now slowly filling up the borders. Japanese maples would be a lovely addition....I'll be watching to see any in the specials on offer at local GC and hope I can at least get one. They are a beautiful addition to the garden.

Pondlady...the photos I have put up so far really don't do the grass justice...it has really greened up over the last couple of days with the rain we have had. I am hoping to update with another blog/photos in the next day or two once I have completed another area of the garden :) Oooh...and I've just noticed you are in N.Scotia...a fellow-Canadian :) I'll have to take a peek at your blogs/photos too as I'm not sure if I have seen them before (sr. moments). I am very behind in reading the blogs and viewing photos with all the excitement of our garden project! lol

8 Jun, 2011

WOW WOW WOW, this is amazing, what a transformation, it's now a real garden. It looks fantastic. I am still in the stages of sorting the lawn and paving I so hope to start planting this summer can't wait to make mine a real garden too. Well done, you must be so chuffed. I am off to read your next update now and see more pics. :) x
