Mid-October Flowers
14 comments
I plan for a big display in the fall as there are a lot of great flowers for this time of year.
I previously posted a couple photos of Paramongaia weberbaueri which is the Peruvian Daffodil. It opens for my birthday, and it lasted 5 days. Being 7″ × 7″, it is large and showy.
The daylilies are still in bloom. Some have taken a break, but others are giving a second or third show. One with a huge green throat is ‘Smiling Cobra’
A double is ’Nature’s Crown’
A nice solid yellow that is one of my crosses is this one:
I have a double that is flowering for the first time. The weather destroyed the tag, so it is Unk.
It is also time for the Nerines from Exbury to bloom. I have several in a large raised bed.
Then there are close-ups of several different ones.
‘Tutmosis’
‘Lobengula’
And then there are some that I got as bonus bulbs, unlabeled.

I recently discovered a situation among my daylilies: A colony of bees decided to move in among a row of daylilies. It is in the ground and don't seem bothered by me walking past it, so they can stay.

Beautiful colours, Wylie! Those purples and pinks are gorgeous!

Really beautiful flowers, Wylie! They are all so lovely! Obviously I have no room on the balcony for Day Lilies but I love yours!
I've never grown Nerines but yours are beautiful!

So much lovely colour! My Nerines are the common pink ones. I don’t have any Day Lilies but enjoy seeing yours.

Fabulous Nerines ... like Ff, I have the common pink ones which I do like, but yours are so much more colourful!

I really like your yellow daylily and I think the nerines are very unusual. The deep red is a stunner.

Colourful auaumtn... Lovely Nerines, I didn't know there were so many varieties.

All of you are lucky that you can buy from Exbury Nerines (www.nerines.com) since Brexit made it too expensive for me. A phyto certificate is now required for Europe and that is expensive. I am trying to cross them with a Crinum moorei, and it looks positive for seed.

Well I wish you luck, Wylie, on your cross with the Crinum!

You have a lovely selection of flowers there Wylie and can understand why The Smiling Cobra is called that as it just made me smile!
I have after all my years of gardening just decided to send for some Nerines. It was something I always intended to do, but didn't!

If you order from Exbury Nerines, they ship only in June but you need to order now as they run out of some of the more popular colors, like the dark purples. They are really good bulbs that easily multiply.

I have ordered them from Hayloft, Wylie and will be here in a couple of days , but could only get a very pale colour.
I will try again next year.

I love your daylilies, none of mine are still flowering. Though my common nerines are doing really well.
