Lovely walk, our woods take 5 mins tops to walk through!
At first I thought that nest was a 'dray', squirrells?
Love the strange creature, I could sketch that!
Millie's very cute!

I loved my walk in the woods with you and Millie, like you say so much to see and so many secretive places, reminds me of the lovely walks I had with Polly, you notice so much more as you wait until your doggy friends finshes her sniffing, my walks these days are not half as fun and no where near as often, thanks for the momories;0))

Hi, Lovely photo's of your woodland walk, the Nest is probably a Magpie as they put a roof on their nests and often use it year after year, it could also be a Squirrels Drey as they look similar.

Lovely walk, naughty Millie sticking out her Tongue!

Lovely walk Gee and you really have an eye for a good photograph, your garden is looking really good.. Tell me do you walk in the woods with just Millie as company, there is a meadow at the bottom of our road, lovely for walking the dogs but there is a lane from the road to the meadow, quite overgrown and makes one feel a bit isolated, so I only go if daughter is walking her dog as well...

Gee: My boy would love that walk, sniffing squirrels rabbits etc. And then at the end of the day chasing them in his sleep. You have a really nice garden.
Lincslass, I walk with Sol across meadows through woodland, parkland and farmland. I always take my phone with me, let my OH know where I'm going and for how long. I no longer walk with my headset but instead prefer to keep my wits about me and sing in my head.
It's sad isn't it that we have to be so cautious about walking alone with our dogs, but I refuse to allow myself to be intimidate by mainly newspaper & TV scaremongering. If I listened & believed everything I read and heard I would never go out of my garden.
I'm not suggesting for a minute that you cast care aside and set off into the countryside with wild abandonment, but please don't let yourself be put off.
Perhaps, if you use the path across the meadow enough it will not be so overgrown and you would feel more comfortable. How about starting a doggy walking group so that you don't feel so conspicuous and have some company. It's the old adage "Safety in numbers". My neighbours and I take cutters with us and cut down any wayward brambles in the local woodland, this makes the footpaths look more used.
The wood close to our house runs along side a very busy road first thing in the morning and again at about 5.30pm. I never go on the same walk at the same time everyday. Many of the motorist use the road at the same time every day and you can almost set the alarm by them. As a female dog walker this is not advisable.
Please enjoy your dog walks and the open space around you. Just like the internet be vigilante. At the end of the day you know your local area better than I. So make a good decision.

Heavy rain here today, Sanbaz, perhaps the weather is doing a swop and you will get some sun!
I usually walk alone with Millie, Lincslass, although I meet other dog walkers along the way sometimes. As Grannyb says, I too always take my phone with me as I have had several 'tumbles' over tree routes, etc. No harm done though, apart from a bruise or two. I think it is a case of following your instincts. If in doubt, dont!
Thanks for the info re: the nest in the tree. It is definitely a bird as one flew out the day before but I only caught a glimpse. I thought magpie or jay but it didn't make the usual noise they make.
Thanks too for the nice comments about my garden and my sausage-loving Millie :)
