Happy New Year Gee :o)

8 Jan, 2013

Happy New Year from me too Gee, and I did enjoy this!

You've some smashing winter plants there, and as usual super photos...especially of Robin and the Squirrel! Superb!

Now as to the Agave.....I used to have loads of these, not in this country though, and the two things they need as you no doubt know are light and dry conditions. In my old borders which were mulched with compost, the agaves would send thick runners out till they reached the warm gravel of the walkways, and up would pop their 'pups' which loved the dry warm conditions. Shorty they would root and I would have to cut them off and plant them somewhere more suitable, not the most friendly of plants to have near the house....also I would cut off the sharp points from the end of each leaf as these are dangerous.
You could pot it up in a very gritty medium and gently pull up the leaves and tie them like that till spring and wrap the fleece round, unless your greenhouse is heated, I would bring it indoors.

Happy New Year to Gee from me so enjoyed your blog .

Thank you

All the best for the year ahead.

Your blog is lovely as it shows the many aspects of pleasure that a garden can bring. Your robin knew where to pose to get his photo taken didn't he?

I enjoyed it too!
The squirrel and robin gave me a giggle!
Good luck with the ipod.....I still haven't got one...good idea though but I don't particularly like having ear phones plugged into my lugs!
All the very best in 2013.
I did a bit of clearing in the garden yesterday and yes, still so soggy!

Happy New Year Gee, I`m pleased you had a good xmas, my grandchildren have gone back to school today and I will miss them popping round, even though sometimes I`d not get a full sentence out of them for ages unless it was a request for food or drinks, lol, they always have some gadget in their hands..
Great photo`s as usual, nice to see the signs of new growth and also the colour around your garden, love the poses of both your friends my little Robin has deserted me, I`m hoping he`ll be back.......Good luck with the new plant, I know they can be quite vicious if we catch ourselves........

Happy New Year Gee, lovely blog and pictures - as ever -your Robin and impersonating squirrel were quite delightful! I'm glad Millie is not put off by the wet conditions it looks to be a lovely walk full of the promise of spring :o)

Gee Happy New Year, made me chuckle, the squirrel part....I do like your white Magnolia, might have to bite the bullet and buy one, we have pink ones, which do very well here.
Janey is spot on with her advice re the Agave, ours are all inside, we have one that has the same problem (bruised limb) it will not recover, you will most probably have to cut it off at some stage.
As to ipods, brilliant little gadgets all you need is a neat docking station (loads to chose from now) and away you go, and you can put all your music and photos on too....great for long boring journeys, plug yourself in and off you go. sorry I am a bit of a geek!!

Lovely blog. I like most of all your two little gardeners, both posing holding the old spade handle. Very cute :)

It's nice that you can see early signs of spring in the woods.
Happy New Year ! :o)
I hope you get on all right with that plant. It seems to be in need of some love and attention lol.
I'd leave the bruised leaf. It will die back naturally, and then yo can cut it away.

Happy new year Gee. Loved your blog. It is good to see the bluebells pushing up in the woods and we are all hoping like you for some extra sun this year. Good luck with your new plant. I would not give it house room but each to his own. I was given a monster sized one by a friend moving house who thought we would have room for it. As soon as I could I passed it on to my daughter in Newcastle. She had it sitting outside in her little yard for about three years before it surprised us by flowering. Then it keeled over and died.

Happy New Year Gee! Your photo of the promise of Spring has prompted me to go for a walk along our local lanes today - may be enough excitement for a blog tomorrow? As long as I don't forget the camera! ;o)

Thank you Gill and a Happy New year to you and your family ,Smashing photos as usual I love the Squirrel / Robin . good luck with the ipod ,I'm struggling with new technology as well I was given a Kindle book also a new touch screen mobile phone I'm getting there but have so much more to find out ,have you noticed that hardly anything has a nice proper instruction book that you can carry with you , everything has to be looked up and then downloaded !

Happy new year to you too Gee, its never too late to say so. Love that promise of spring there.......very exciting :)

Happy New year to You Gee19....

Thanks for all your comments :)
I am still persevering with the ipod, DD2 - I won't be using earphones as I just want it to replace my old mini hifi system. Radio reception here is not good via an aerial so the ipod plus docking station solves the difficulty and takes up less space!

Amy, I have a Kindle and love it - I've discovered so many new authors and, again, no space needed.

Janey, thanks for the advice re: the agave. I will certainly snip off the sharp spines - that will be easier than trying to place it in a safe position and ensure Millie isn't attacked! It's about 2' across so I don't think I will be able to bring it indoors but hope it will survive in the greenhouse.

Gill can I ask you a question about the Kindle please , do you turn the wireless off only turning it on again when you want to download an item or do you leave it on all the time , I've been leaving it on I'm not sure if I should be ,Thanks . :o)

10 Jan, 2013

I just turn the wireless on when downloading, Amy. I think the battery lasts longer when it's off but, apart from that, I don't think it does any harm if left on. I've had mine for over a year now and I was one of those who said I would never have one!!

Glad you are getting all the latest gear Gee. I got a smart phone over a year ago but I am not getting on too well with the more advanced functions. Good job I kept my old Samsung clam though. I can text on that easily and find my way round the functions easily. Ipod yes but Ipad no. Kindle a big yes, especially in the winter months. 3G too and I can buy a book from my bed! Just read The Millenium Trilogy. There are so many Kindle versions now since I got was given one just over a year ago. If you have the black and white Kindle, hold the on switch till it blinks green twice and leave a white screen instead of some fish or a famous author. It saves a lot of battery when out of use. Happy new year.

I can't even text yet , I'm ashamed to say .
