It was a really amazing trip which also took in Harrogate (on the journey up) and Sherwood Forest (on the way back). We also stopped at the Angel of the North. A wonderful Christmas present :)

Thanks for posting this blog Gee, I found it fascinating. I loved the Puffins, such comical birds. Also thanks for the information on Gertrude. I had no idea she used to live there...or how she planted some of her seeds. Ingenious.

What a lovely thoughtful gift,Gee.Northumberland is a wonderful place..and we don't visit as often as we could....We have never got as far as Holy Island,or Lindisfarne either..Puffins are my favourite sea birds too..I knew about Gertrude, but had totally forgotten about her seed sowing method,so thanks for the reminder..what a shrewd lady :o)your photo's are lovely, and I really enjoyed the visit with you..thank you...xx

Lovely wild life photos, you must have enjoyed every single moment.
I used to teach my class about The Vikings and the priory on Lindisfarne and always wished I could take them to actually see it. Now I have visited it thanks to you!

What a lovely present to share with your family Gee. I love this historic part of the country that was so important after the Romans left. Your pictures are wonderful, especially the one with the cloud over it. All those black and white bird pictures are marvellous too.I did not know Gertrude Jekyll lived at Lindisfarne castle. No wonder she needed a walled garden! I expect she wanted a challenge.
