*Tuesday was such a lovely morning we decided to walk to Uppermill Garden Center which is around three miles, the walk is mainly along the bridle paths and canal side.
Onto The Bridle Path.Entering Greenfield Village to pick up the Canal Foot path To Uppermill, but first have a peep at the old fashioned Greengrocers display
The New Canal side Pub and Marina
Now onwards Via the towpath, note the lovely old Bridges and Locks and Spot the Heron!
Entering Uppermill Now
Now past the Lovely old Cottages and we are there!
A nice wonder around looking at the lovely displays and making plans for next year! then a light lunch and homeward bound! hope you enjoyed your morning walk a round trip of six miles.*

Lovely blog PP! It's many a long year since I've been to Uppermill, looks like it's been 'tarted up' a bit since then! It was such a very pretty place, quaint and relatively unspoiled....I'm not so sure I didn't prefer it before the planners got hold of it, though if it's just the new 'marina' that's not too bad.
Trouble with walking to the garden centre is you have then to think very carefully before buying anything - because you've got to walk back home with it!
Those terracotta pumpkins look like they'd save someone hours ( if not years! ) of carving faces out of real ones!
And I've STILL not spotted the heron! ;-( Must try harder!
;-)

Pleased you found him Bscott! yes Uppermill is a very pretty place but like you say in danger of being overdeveloped which is such a shame, The walk to the garden center is lovely but to far to carry home the birdbath I had my eyes on, but next time in the car perhaps! How come you know Uppermill when you live in Scotland?
14 Oct, 2009
What a lovely walk and a lovely destination too. The autumn colours look good and yes it would be my idea of heaven too.
I spent all the war years in Lancashire with my great Aunts and very happy I was too in Great Eccleston.
As Scott said, the only drawback would be that you couldn't carry it all home, but it could be a 'reccy' then go back in the car and LOAD UP.
14 Oct, 2009
I'm from Yorkshire, PP, and lived in Holmfirth for 7 years before coming up here....so Uppermill was part of my 'circuit' on days out!
;-)

Brighouse does not spring to mind as picturesque but it has some beautiful immediate surrounding areas and I loved it. Though must say Shropshire is beautiful
