Blue moon tonight.

How spooky Drc....I've just posted a picture of the moon at 3am this morning - it was an amazing site as I travelled along the road - mesmerizing!

Definitely spooky..I also took two the night before,but OH didn't think they were good enough,so I deleted them..I thought they were ok..but what do I know!..It was such a beautiful star lit night,last night....:o) I will look out tonight,Denise,thanks

What we were both out at 3 am? and I thought the same as you Scottish it looked so magical somehow.

I was on my way home from work Drc.....always get in just around then. I'll think about you in the morning trying to get another shot. No chance here though - rain is pouring and is forecast all night!!

I love the moon, is that why the saying 'once in a blue moon' is said because they dont often happen? Interesting.

Apparently the reason has been lost in time Steragram, but one idea is - in calculating the dates for Lent and Easter, the Clergy identify the Lent Moon. It is thought that historically when the moon's timing was too early, they named an earlier moon as a "betrayer moon" (belewe moon), thus the Lent moon came at its expected time?

Ever since my Father woke me and showed me the 'Blue moon' it has fascinated me even though I do not remember seeing it, just him waking me.

Only 41 in every 100 years! I did a blog on the last one in 2009 and Mad said she would not see another! when I told her the date of the next one (today) - she hoped she would as it was due near her diamond wedding (19th) - I hope where ever you are Mad you see it!

I didn't know that ... It was very bright here also.

I could not see it so cloudy here all night.

I drove home south from Glasgow, leaving just before 4am. The moon was stunning, and just before it dropped below the horizon, it was a huge yellow disc - a wonderful sight.

I was sad not to see it, but then we havent seen the sun today either stayed very dull and cloudy.

Cloudy here too - but I did see the moon the night before, if that sort of counts! thank you for the history Drc - very interesting.

We were at a dinner party, with the windows wide open, and we all trooped out to see it. We failed to explain to our Italian friends the meaning of "Blue moon", but it was so bright, it was almost like daylight - quite magical and pretty romantic, too.
