LOTS OF WEATHER :o)

LOTS OF WEATHER :o)

While sorting through papers, I found this postcard.

I guess it's about 30 years old ...

... anyone else had lots of weather this month ?

Comments on this photo

Yeah.
Want some, Terra?
I've only ever been on I.O.W. once, for a funeral, about 24 yrs ago.
I was dressed as Dangermouse.

30 Jan, 2014

Lots of weather here yesterday and today, TT but not the sort I like! I spent several lovely 'holidays' on the Isle of Wight over 50 years ago looking after children while their parents had a holiday, organised by the Baptist Union. I went back with my daughter a few years ago and was lucky enough to see a red squirrel a few minutes after driving off the ferry :)

30 Jan, 2014

Lovely to see red squirrels ...
and Dangermouse ;o)

30 Jan, 2014

Carry on, Penfold. :-)

30 Jan, 2014

Ah, the importance of being 'Ernest' ...

30 Jan, 2014

Hi Terra,no change there then ! and they talk about the good old days ...I presume that was supposed to be summer ?..:o)

30 Jan, 2014

Lol, Terra!

30 Jan, 2014

We had a great holiday there when I was 14 years old. The weather was lovely. It has been a beautiful day here in Glasgow....I think the weather people have had the map upside down.....we usually get all the rain. It would seem we have had half the usual rainfall while some in the south have had double. :o/

30 Jan, 2014

And its still raining here in Ryde on the IOW! Lawn is saturated. Longing to get out and tidy up my beds a bit but just no point trying at the moment! Roll on spring!

30 Jan, 2014

Hold onto your umbrellas everyone ...

Thanks, Rosie jo for your up-to-date IOW weather report ...
I hope you soon get some sunshine in Ryde !

30 Jan, 2014

No two days the same here , rainy and 8C today , yesterday , cold windy 3.5C ; I think that the white stuff is forecast in North Norfolk tomorrow .
A proper pattern would be welcome !
Never mind Tt , a chance to do some sorting out .

30 Jan, 2014

Hi Driad ...
yes I don't mind indoor tasks.
My pets are great company as I work .
... I'm forging ahead with tidying lots of paperwork ..

30 Jan, 2014

She looks as if she's enjoying her holiday ... lol :o)
We didn't have any weather here today.
No sun, no wind, no rain, no blue sky ... just dull with nothing ...
I hope you had some nice weather TT :o)

30 Jan, 2014

Hello Hywel ..
So, you had no weather at all ?
... that's remarkable ;o)
You'll put the forecasters out of a job ...
'Today there will be no weather' .Lol.

Weather today here was very similar to the postcard, but I've been busy and happy, so no problem :o)

30 Jan, 2014

lol :o)
I hope the sun shines for you tomorrow TT.

30 Jan, 2014

Ha ha, love it:-))

30 Jan, 2014

A bit of hail for us today, but not too much weather really! I've never been to IOW...only seen it from the ferry. maybe one day :)

30 Jan, 2014

Lol I like , yes weather here normally mostly rain, now rain rain rain and rain. :o((

30 Jan, 2014

Ah yes, we don't have weather like we used to have any more. You can always tell when it's summer though - the rain is warmer

30 Jan, 2014

Yes Terra we have LOTS of it ;0(

30 Jan, 2014

Yes TT. ............rain............rain...............rain...............rain..............
.rain...................rain..................rain................rain.....................rain....................rain..............and so fed up, garden is like pudden.

30 Jan, 2014

Amy

We have had lots of weather her to TT !! We went to the Isle of Wight years ago and paid a visit to Ventnor botanical gardens they kindly sent me seed from their Australian bottle brush shrub which I grew and still have today ....

30 Jan, 2014

Thanks for the weather updates folks ..
Here's the summary so far ...
hail, rain, not-so-warm rain, snow, sleet ...

31 Jan, 2014

TT - you forgot to finish with "And heavy rain" :-(

31 Jan, 2014

Hi Andrew ..
and 'the wrong type of rain' ;o)

31 Jan, 2014

'Too wet' perhaps?

31 Jan, 2014

Hi Mouldy ..
or too much 'wet look' clothing ?

31 Jan, 2014

I'm thinking that an investment in a souwester like the card would be a good idea!
I've only been on a daytrip to IoW.......must go there one day.....

31 Jan, 2014

Hi Pam ..
wishing you sunny weather for your visit :o) xxx

31 Jan, 2014

TT - Descending? Persisting? Over-indulgent? Excessive?

31 Jan, 2014

Andrew ...
... precipitating ? persevering ? percolating ?

31 Jan, 2014

Puddly...pudding....probing.....predictable.....predisposing......
and fed up Lol.

31 Jan, 2014

P*ssed on and p*ssed off then :-)

31 Jan, 2014

Higgle d piggle d lost my leg where by not by the garden shed by the puddles so deep I could dip a sheep.

31 Jan, 2014

Andrew.....was so tempted to print what you have.....Lol

31 Jan, 2014

Lol 3d.

31 Jan, 2014

The river by me has flooded the nature walk, awaiting the canal to go next, then I ll be just one of Andrews that will p*ssed off.

31 Jan, 2014

That's good Terra, it's already a treasure!

31 Jan, 2014

Thanks Junna ...

ah ... amazing weather comments ...
GoYers perhaps overdosing on the cold remedies ?

Andrew ... it's supposed to be one spoonful of whisky in a tumbler of warm milk ...
... NOT one spoonful of milk in a tumbler of whisky ;o)

1 Feb, 2014

Having to dry my washing over the radiators, nowadays, Terra, since a combi-boiler was put in a couple of years ago.
Wastes money, takes ages to run a bath and longer to heat up the flat.
On the plus side...the redundant airing cupboard, where the old immersion heater sat, is now used for storing bulbs, etc. as it's cool and frost free. :-)

1 Feb, 2014

TT - damn, I forgot the spoonful of milk

1 Feb, 2014

Well done Mouldy ...
one of several excellent uses for empty airing cupboards ;o)

Andrew ...
wow ...
you swallowed the neat remedy ... instant results ...
medicine so strong, it makes you forget about being unwell ... in fact you forget almost everything ... ;o)

1 Feb, 2014

Where am I? What's going on? Who are you? And what are those pink elephants doing, floating in the garden?

1 Feb, 2014

Love the way this thread is going Terra! Ah ... the I.o.Wight with the countryside and the sea and the peace and tranquillity ... can you tell I love it there ... lol!

Blue sky, bitterly cold wind and sunshine so the towels are blowing dry outdoors for a change ... hooray!

All local rugby and footy matches off though ... waterlogged pitches ... :o(

1 Feb, 2014

Hi Shirley ...
you'll know things are really bad when they cancel the water polo matches ...

Andrew ...
Where are you ?
... the lake district of Berkshire ...
What's going on ?
... keen gardeners are looking forward to early May ~ the ideal time to visit your Bracknell NGS water gardens ...
Who am I ?
... I am GoYpedia editor for Wellies ...
What are those floating pink elephants doing ?
... doggie paddle ...

1 Feb, 2014

I can see a rainbow.....not really the suns gone in!
but with pretty pink elephants and yellow souwesters
its a start!
I just wish I knew the fool who Won't Stop SINGING :0)

1 Feb, 2014

Hi Pam ... song ?
must be that memorable 1983 classic by the Weather Girls .... 'It's Raining Men' ...

... or can you remember 1967 ?
The Move ... 'Flowers in the Rain' ...

1 Feb, 2014

We have had plenty of rain as well Terra here in Felixstowe but what I don't like is its dirty rain left on my windows I think its sand but not sure as I do live near the sea, but what is so annoying it always seems to come when Iv'e just cleaned my windows . I have been to the IOW when I was a child (many moons ago lol) cant remember what the weather was like but I do remember I enjoyed the holiday, never mind its blue sky today so far but clouds have started to drift in Hey Ho back indoors I think :o)

1 Feb, 2014

Hi Sheil ...
yes... lots of rain in most parts of the UK.

Is the moral of your story ...
'Don't clean your windows and then it won't rain ? ;o)

1 Feb, 2014

It's spitting - everybody in!

1 Feb, 2014

only one sort here WET

1 Feb, 2014

Lol Shirley, Snoopy :o)

1 Feb, 2014

I well remember "Flowers in the Rain" Tt , I also remember "Singing in the Rain" , when it was first released , in 1953 or 1954 , I loved Gene Kelly .
He didn't mind the rain , Pam !

1 Feb, 2014

While we're on the subject, I'm sure you remember "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" as well? Sacha Distel

1 Feb, 2014

Trouble is Terra, the 'lots of weather' is just rain, rain and more rain down here - just like the postcard in fact!!!

I would use my umbrella if only the wind wasn't 'quite' so strong!!!

1 Feb, 2014

Hi Chris ...
yes ... the south has had more than its share of rain this year ...
certainly 'lots of weather' !

Let's hope everyone will soon be singing the Elkie Brooks song ...
... 'Sunshine after the Rain' !

2 Feb, 2014

I think the song by the Beatles ought to be my signature tune

'I'll follow the sun!!'
:-))

2 Feb, 2014

'Raining in my Heart'? Buddy Holly.

3 Feb, 2014

'You are my Sunshine' ? Doris Day.

3 Feb, 2014

Oh yes, I like that one :-)

3 Feb, 2014

"I Can't Stand the Rain". First sung by Ann Peebles, but I remember the disco version from the 70s.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAaAvw8RK7U

3 Feb, 2014

Andrew ..
You remember the disco version from the 70's ?
Were you listening from your pram ? ;o)

3 Feb, 2014

TT - I'm much older than I look. Too much gardening and healthy living!

Talking of hearing things when I was in a pram. My mother used to put me in a pram in the front garden. Some houses were being built next door, and my first word was a swear word apparently

3 Feb, 2014

Seems your interest in gardens started at an early age ...

... you were probably swearing at the builders because they were damaging the flowers ... ;o)

3 Feb, 2014

Lol. Homebird ...
At such a young age you found an efficient way to make snails disappear ... ?
... patent that idea and you could make a fortune ! ;o)

4 Feb, 2014

Mine was poking earwigs out of holes......grandad grew dahlias....

The sun has got his hat on.....

What was that one? Down came the rain!...

and my favorite

Bring me sunshine ,:0)

4 Feb, 2014

My first memory of flowers were a neighbour's marigolds, which were covered in blackfly.
I didn't know that at the time, but who can forget marigolds and wee black flies?

4 Feb, 2014

Johnny Ray , singing "The Day That The Rain Came Down", was a big "hit" in the fifties , I remember , it was very dramatic .
(I bet not many of you know that one .)
I remember being on the allotment with my dad , who must have been having to baby-sit , and he disturbed a nest of mice . My first memory of gardening . There was also a strong smell of , what I now know to be , comfrey liquid manure .

4 Feb, 2014

Some of my earliest memories of flowers are of grape hyacinths and aubrieta ... and I have plenty of both in my gardens today !

Tomorrow, with gales in the forecast, we might be singing a different Doris Day recording .. 'Windy City' !

4 Feb, 2014

(Mouldy wonders if Terra has, in some subliminally psychic manner, tapped into the fact he's scoffing beans) ;-)

5 Feb, 2014

Vaguely remember the johnny ray song.......I loved doris day, windy city and deadwood stage.......just hope its not prophetic because of the poor trees.....Windy up there is it Mouldy :0)

5 Feb, 2014

'The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind'

'Life's bean good to me ?'

5 Feb, 2014

And cold, too, Pam.
Icicles round the ricicles.
Must do a runner, before some broad strings me up!
What?
Me that started this thread?
Gosh, how did that happen? Lol.

5 Feb, 2014

A bit feeble , but "Stormy Weather" ( with vengeance) !

5 Feb, 2014

Memories are made of this, I was there when the sky juice was falling.

5 Feb, 2014

Fred Astaire ..
'Isn't this a lovely day to be caught in the rain' !

6 Feb, 2014

wind and rain here ... someone put out a recycling box yesterday - I know because it all ended up sprread across my drive and front garden!

6 Feb, 2014

Dino, Smileamy.

6 Feb, 2014

How about "Pennies from Heaven".
Dino is under-rated , Mouldy , isn't he ?

6 Feb, 2014

Tell me about it, Driad!
'Kiss'.
What's not to love?

6 Feb, 2014

Wow ... lots more interesting titles ..
thanks for latest input ...
Dave, Fran, Mouldy, Driad and Homebird ...

Does this one count as a weather song ... ?
'Love is all around us' by WET WET WET !!

7 Feb, 2014

Get's my vote, but I'm probably biased. Lol.

7 Feb, 2014

Lol. :o)

7 Feb, 2014

and films, too - Waders of the Lost Ark?

8 Feb, 2014

LOL Fran ... :o)))

8 Feb, 2014

Is that the Brollywood (Ouch!) version, Fran? ;-)

9 Feb, 2014

And I trust you're using a Mac, not a PC

9 Feb, 2014

Hi Andrew ..
Politically correct to use a Mac ...?
... not p.c. to use a PC ... ? ;o)

In this wet weather, reboot and keep Windows closed ...

10 Feb, 2014

Give it some wellie, Terra! ;-)

10 Feb, 2014

Hi Mouldy ..
I save that for my Wellie Olympics blog .. ;o)

10 Feb, 2014

Rainy days and Mondays always get me down.....Carpenters?

10 Feb, 2014

Put the boot in, why don't you? Snigr.
You been at those Sanatagens again, Pam? ;-)

10 Feb, 2014

Oo moi?

Water water everywhere......

actually I think I'm being corrupted by Ba's duck blog.....Lol......
I'm not sure if its an ark we're building or if we're running away to sea!
I'm the cook and we need more crew captain Ba needs a slave.......

11 Feb, 2014

Simon and Garfunkel ... 'Bridge over troubled Water'

Cliff Richard ... 'The Water is Wide'

11 Feb, 2014

Blondie...'The Tide Is High'

BA should forget a sailship, then and get a slaveship.
She'd be in heaven.
Right, next problem? ;-)

11 Feb, 2014

Gracie Fields ..
'Old Father Thames keeps rolling along' ...

11 Feb, 2014

Paul Robeson - Ol' Man River (even if is about the Mississippi)

11 Feb, 2014

Enya ... Orinoco Flow

11 Feb, 2014

Anon...'Michael Row The Boat Ashore'.

12 Feb, 2014

I lived on the Isle of Wight for 17 years then we moved to Derbyshire. The island was a bit different then and there were fewer ferries. We went on holiday last year there and some of the roads are just as bad as when we used to live there. We knew Alum Bay without all the built up touristy bits and Blackgang Chine had a small Dinosaur park but a lot has been washed away now as it's clay cliffs and the weather has taken it's toll.
p.s. Has anyway mentioned SINGING IN THE RAIN? by Gene Kelly,
or IT'S RAINING MEN by the Weathergirls.

14 Feb, 2014

I can't believe no-one has added Handel's Water Music

14 Feb, 2014

'Fella with an Umbrella' [from Easter Parade]

14 Feb, 2014

Is anyone going to start thinking positive than negative and think of sunny days. YOU ARE THE SUNSHINE OF MY LIFE .......

15 Feb, 2014

Have we had "raindrops keep falling on my head?" I've lost track......Charles aznavour I think

same with the sun has got his hat on......

15 Feb, 2014

Sacha Distel, PamG.
My wee fat mum adored him, 'til she eventually met him.
Brusque to the point of rudeness and make-up couldn't hide the evidence of acne or smallpox scars all over his face.
Mum was so disappointed! Lol.

15 Feb, 2014

Rhythm of the rain ... Crying in the rain ...Just walking in the rain ... Raindrops keep falling on my head (and they do!)...

16 Feb, 2014

The sun has got his hat on this morning \0/

Best not to meet them face to face then Mouldy......

16 Feb, 2014

After the fierce storms of Friday/Saturday, which knocked down lots of my fence panels ...
Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters
...'Don't fence me in' ...

16 Feb, 2014

She'd put him on a pedestal, so couldn't see his clay feet.

Brian Ferry...'A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall'.

17 Feb, 2014

Have we had Adam Faith ( I think) Raining in my Heart ?
Actually , don't look now , but it might have stopped for a while (say nothing).

17 Feb, 2014

Mum's the word :-)

17 Feb, 2014

I think that was by Buddy Holly, Driad.
Riders on the Storm...The Doors.

18 Feb, 2014

Flanders and Swann ...
Mud, mud, glorious mud ...

18 Feb, 2014

The mud , mud is just about right , Tt .
I remembered it was Buddy Holly , Mouldy , later , but I knew that you would spot the deliberate mistake .
Only a couple of light showers as yet today , Andrew .

18 Feb, 2014

Chrysanthemum's the word ...

18 Feb, 2014

Not light here Driad. Flippin' heavy ones, although not as bad as recently.

18 Feb, 2014

Keeping me on my toes, eh, Driad? LOL.

Just drizzle, here, today...so far!

'Mother, Sweet Mother of Mine'.
Can't recall the original singer, but Jimmy Osmond covered it.

19 Feb, 2014

Chrysanthemum should be the word on here , Tt .
A lovely mild day here , no rain (so far).
That sounds like it ought to be up there with Molly Malone , Mouldy . Tt will know .

19 Feb, 2014

'Mother, Sweet Mother of Mine' - Neil Reid. I hated it at the time, and it hasn't improved with time!!

19 Feb, 2014

Boney M ... Daddy Cool ....

19 Feb, 2014

How did I miss this, we live opposite the I O W......and it is usually raining there......still it protects us from the worst of the bad weather. :-D

27 Mar, 2014

Hi Dotty ...
I hadn't realised the IOW protects the mainland to such an extent ...

28 Mar, 2014

I've heard people being less than complimentary about IoW, so it's good to know it's there for something positive!

Oh, reminds me: I did a search on a travel site for "Isle of Wight" and it came up with "0 results - did you mean Isle Op Wight?" sigh ...

28 Mar, 2014

Oh yes TT, thank goodness.....
