I've made an effort to plant winter colour where I can admire it from indoors ...
I can see the raised bed from warm rooms in my house...
upstairs and downstairs ... Lol.

a palette of green ~ its lovely, i like the idea of the raised bed that can be seen from the windows.

... a few years ago, I thought building a raised bed seemed like a good idea too... Lol.
It took me ages to build it... a bit at a time, out of recycled brick sections, but the end result has been well worth it ...

i wouldnt mind a one that contained scented plants and that curved around an area where i could have a table outside??

Quite amazing the leaf-colour varieties available...
I didn't used to think much about how my gardens looked in the wintertime, but I've changed my mind about that in recent years ...

I can understand that Tt....Im looking at my garden at the moment, thinking how dull it looks....I think you've given me a few ideas....:>)

These plants were all flattened with snow for quite a number of days recently, but they've bounced back beautifully ...

I always think a garden is just as important in the winter because it can make you feel better if it looks nice

...this winter, despite the snow, I've enjoyed my winter flowering plants which I can see from my house ... winter jasmine, viburnums, etc...

Most of the soil in the main part of my raised bed is normal, but I put ericaceous compost in the ground alongside, where I planted the pieris which I inherited from my mother ..

Yes... the helianthemum grows quite fast, so at times I have to prune it back .. I've just bought some little rockery plants in B & Q .. The staff service in there seems much improved... garden section man came up asking if I needed help... woman at the till very helpful, and ran off to find me a box for my plants... sun is shining... life is good ..lol.

I hate having to cut things back but it has to be done does nt it. I shall tell my brother in law, who works at B&Q, lol no I don't get any thing cheaper from him either my sister makes sure to that.

Love this winter colour. It's set me thinking. I have a raised bed with lots of spring bulbs in it. I also planted low growing alpines for them to grow through but it always looks dull in winter & then messy when the bulb leaves are dying off (which seems to take ages - sigh).
Any suggestions to improve it welcome. :)

That's good you were able to get out in the garden while the sun was shining... a little bit of tidying here and there helps, doesn't it. I raked my lawns and they looked so much better... more rain forecast tomorrow ..lol.

In winter, the "aqua" shades of green seem to shine out more than they do in the summer..
