Early to rise

I’ve enjoyed reading your Autumn blogs so I thought I would take you with me this morning. Leaving home in the dark and clearing the ice from the car I set off with my mate for the nearby hills where we do most of our walking. Though I had the lanes all to myself I had to step on it as dawn was about to break and I wanted to be up on the hill to see the sunrise from the top.
Had to get a move on as I could see the red glow through the woods.
Almost there but the sun is rising fast.
Just made it, Phew !!
A warm welcoming glow on the floor of the woods.
A welcome sight not often seen in the morning.

Nature’s Axminster.
Something’s been chomping mushrooms for breakfast.
THe squirrels haven’t left many Chestnuts.
Early morning mist makes magical moods.
Janey will know what this is.
If I may say so, Barnaby blends in quite nicely.
Sun’s well up in the sky now and back out of the woods heading for home and a hearty breakfast.

Heron, as a late riser these days I would have no chance of seeing such spectacular scenes as you have captured with your camera. So...I thank you for that feast for the eyes :)
Barnaby looks to be having a great time with you too.

Stunning pictures Heron. You've captured some beautiful early morning moments there. Something to inspire me to get up and grab the camera when I'm lying snug and warm in bed......maybe. lol

Really enjoyed your walk Ron, the photos are very beautiful especially nos. 5 and 8......I love them. And beautiful Barnaby too, I bet he really enjoys his early morning time, it's often the best part of the day isn't it?....:o)))
Lol not sure about the fungus....it could be a tasty field mushroom, but then again not...:o((

Can say that even from your photos which are exceptional those scenes took my breath away, absolutely magical.
Looks as if Barnaby was checking to see if you were following.
8 Nov, 2010
do you put the camera on a special setting to get those lovely sky shots and light rays?
8 Nov, 2010
Have to agree absolutely brill blog and photos thanks for taking us with you loved it.

Thanks for your complements, and yes ST I do use 'special settings' as the light was low and to just shoot on 'Auto' would cancel out the whole idea. I find it best to set the camera on 'Manual' and then twiddle a bit. Auto is ok but it's better in ordinary situations. As for getting up early, well I'm always up at 6 so I had time for a coffee. I estimated the time to get there to see the sunrise but the car was iced up so I had to rush a bit as you can see in the first pics. I'm thinking of going over to the west of the hills and do the same at sunset. Barnaby goes everywhere with me, he protects me from squirrels.

Hi Heron, lovely blog, very impressed with your photos. I must try and do something more interesting with my camera. I love the scenes in the woods. I am half way through a blog on a new path through the woods -more later. Thanks for getting up early for us!

For me there's something comforting about being surrounded by trees whatever time of year. I often sit on a fallen tree and, well just feel at home with everything, there's so much to see and hear.
Rachelsmum, your Avatar indicates that you've already started to "do something more interesting with your camera" very nice.

lovely... have a long pause at the 10th photo and imagine myself again, running around the trees with Barnaby... nice blog Heron.

Barnaby just loves kicking up all the leaves, he gets covered in them, I suppose it won't be long before he's running through the snow. He likes that too but his feet gather large snow balls and he can't walk as we can't remove them. Guess who has to carry him lol
12 Nov, 2010
Barnaby looks so cute and cuddly. Love the Photos, well done you on your lovely blog.
