For the last 2 days ive had a young hedgehog come in my garden in the afternoon… the weathers been warm amd he was looking for things to eat.. He started to eat some of the birds bread.. so i went and got him some of ellas dog food.. which he sat and ate…..then he wondered round the garden and round to the side gate where he went under and out the front… i was rather concerned as to where he was going…. he went across the road and along the houses front gardens over the road….. i live in a close so the road is not to busy….
yesterday he came back again…. so i fed him again and off he went out the gate and over the road… i watched him till he went in a big hedge a few houses down…
here are some of the pics i took of him…. will look out for him this afternoon….

I'd be as chuffed as you Holly if a hedgehog were to make an appearance. I've not seen any around our area but it is very built up and on a busy road.
Even the squirrels that inhabit gardens/trees across our busy road from our home won't venture across....so no squirrels, no hedgehogs....usually have a few birds but they are even a bit scarce at the moment.
Loved your pictures too, Holly.

I put a little web cam in the house I built so we could see what they were up to but it was to dark in there to see anything at all! Lol
I still have the house so I might try again this year but use a low light camera and some infra red LED's.

Lovely pics Holly I hope you see more of him before he hibernates :o)

He only looks like a youngster and you giving him food and water will certainly help him through the winter. You could try to make a shelter for him in a corner and put some hay inside. One of our shelters is an old laundry basket that I cut a hole hedgehog size in and covered the roof in waterproofing. Just be aware that him being so young he may wake up early and need food and water. Ours woke in March.

great pictures, how did you manage to entice the hedgehog? i would like one in my garden ~ he would get very fat on the juicy slugs that are already here!

So good to see, Holly, I do hope he stays with you over winter. My garden is escape proof for the tortoises so I don't get hedgehog visitors either. Thanks for sharing your lovely photos :)

It's the time of year when they get a little braver or more desperate to fill up before going into hibernation.
I love hedgehogs and last year we had a "hog-hotel" where two or three slept out the winter. It was in a quiet corner of our garden behind the shed so as not to disturb them. Obviously we didn't see them very often but for Holly's sake alone it was well worth going to all the trouble of making one. They popped out one spring evening and we saw them for about two weeks after that until, I guess, they went on their merry way.
This is a very timely reminder not to burn piles of leaves or branches/twigs without pulling them apart first just to make sure you haven't gained any tenants!
