Work in progress ...

A while ago, I showed the area at the side of my shed, and what I was doing to it …
Here’s ‘Before’ :-
As you can see, the shed was blue :( and there was an arch there … with roses and Clemaitses growing on it.
Then I took the arch away (because it fell down !)
and replaced it with trellises :-
Now at last I have got round to putting a ‘roof’ on it … made out of Perspex sheets :-
As you can see it isn’t finished yet, because there’s another sheet to go up …
but I haven’t bought that yet.
It will have to wait until July (not long) because it is expensive to buy these materials :(
Here’s the ‘finished’ bit … :-
I had to go up on the shed roof to put the fixings into the Perspex sheets, and it was a bit of a struggle with my arthritic knees … :(
but I made it, somehow lol !
I’m not very good at DIY, so I used these little brackets to fix the wood together :o)
I have been lucky to have done this much before the rain started, and now I can put some of my Fuchsias there …
because they are getting rather crowded in the other shelter …
Here are some that I’ve moved …
And here’s my little helper :)
She couldn’t make out what I was doing up on the roof lol :o))

Well done on all the hard work. Your fuchsias already look at home in there.

Hello Hywel ... good work :o)
27 Jun, 2014
Boy, Hywel...that's terrific! you sure have lots of plants, and your new setup is so neat...how old is your garden? i admire all the work you put into it, and enjoy reading your blogs...thanks for taking time to share...i especially like the way you made a positive [new setup] out of a negative [collapsing arch]...you're a good example for me to follow...

LOOKS GREAT AND PROFESSIONAL TO ME. I TRY TO DO SOMETHING SIMILAR MYSELF, BUT I AM A VERY IMPATIENT PERSON AND ALWAYS WANT TO FINISH EVERYTHING IN ONE GO. I REGRET IT WHEN I LOOK AT IT LATER BUT THERE IS NO WAY TO GO BACK AND DO IT AGAIN. THAT IS ME I AM AFRAID.

You've done a cracking job there Hywel, the idea was Brill! looks so much better than the arch, and it's so practical.Just showed my OH, and he agrees a job well done. What colour did you paint the shed and trellis... much better than the blue, if you don't mind me saying! We're repainting our shed at the moment, and we're struggling to find a colour that we both like, but we like your colour LOL . You have some healthy plants there as well, and plenty of room for more.Hope you get it finished and you'll show us.:-)

I like that a lot Hywel ... pretty good for a 'non-handyman' if I may say so! Megan cat climbs up on to our Perspex roof so don't be surprised if Bella does the same on yours eventually! :o)

Great idea and looks brilliant Hywel, well done!

Looks good to me Hywel, and the fuscias look happy in their new home and I guess Bella will enjoy the dry sunny spot when its completed

I love it Hywel, and well done..I think you have done a great job..It looks so sturdy, and professional..I would be making a space for me to sit, never mind the Fuchsias..under cover and out of the rain..you spoil those plants :o)

What a fantastic job Hywel! You say you're not good at DIY, well you could have fooled me. I'm sure you're going to find it really useful to work in there when it's not fit to go outside. I agree with Bloomer, push the Fuchsias over and get out a comfy chair lol :)

You've done a great job Hywel - and I think Bella wasn't wondering what you were up too - I think she was casting her beady eye over just to make sure you got it secure enough so she can explore up there later :)
I like the new colour too - it will show up all the different fuchsia flowers.

Looks great Hywel

That looks really good, Hywel, and a lovely space for your ever-expanding collection.
Bella looks as if she's casing the joint to see how she can work it to her advantage! (She's looking very well, by the way.)

Yes I like the new colour better too - what a great idea Hywel, it looks so professional. Do you think the day will arrive when you want to glaze the walls as well???? (Sorry!)There's room for lots more fuchsias now...the ones you have there look so at home.

Thank you all ... I'm pleased everyone likes my idea :o)
Odaatpat - I have lived here for 8 years, and when I came here the garden had nothing in it ... nothing at all :o( It was just grass from one end to the other.
I brought lots of things with me from my previous garden (which was rather large) and added to them over the years.
Kokkinotriantafyllo - I am also rather impatient when it comes to doing things like this. It gets on my nerves and I want to get it out of the way as quickly as possible :o)
Gralew - the colour is Cuprinol garden shades, and called 'White Daisy' lol :o) I bought it from home base ... I'm pleased your husband likes it too :)
Shirley - Bella already walks on the Perspex roofs of the other shelters, and often goes up on the shed roof too :o)
She is meowing at me this very moment, wanting attention ! :)
Sandra, Waddy, Pamg - I will probably sit in there for a few minutes, but I am never still for very long in the garden lol
Scottish, Melchisedec - Bella will enjoy it I'm sure. She is good at doing exactly what she wants :o))
Steragram - I am thinking of doing something to the sides, so that it has some protection in the winter. The thing is that there are climbers growing up the trellises at the moment ... so I may move them.

Every time i sit down in the garden I see something thats needs doing !
Great job Hywel. Dont take any notice of Bella, cats dont like things being changed.
Corrugated perspex is a job to keep clean in the winter.
If you see a long handled small brush when out shopping
be useful to buy it, to shove up the concave parts.
Guess Beryl is very pleased with it anyway.
28 Jun, 2014
Thank you Diane ... I shall look for a suitable brush.
Pamg - I'm sorry I put your name with the wrong comment above. It should have been with Scottish and Melchisedec, because of what you said about Bella ... I hope I haven't confused you :/

Another job well done Hywell from your photo it has made it look so much lighter up that corner.
28 Jun, 2014
Thats a grand job you've done there Hywel, we used to have those perspex sheets for the little leanto we have out our back and also when we had our aviary, they lasted for donkeys years, those brackets are also what we've used as well, my hubby is not a carpenter so also cannot do the proper joints, anyway makes the job a lot easier and quicker, lol..Its a smashing colour nice and light so definitely a good idea to leave a space for you to relax and enjoy your garden and the views even on a rainy day....

Nice home for your Fuchsias, Hywel (and maybe few cactuses?)
29 Jun, 2014
It looks really good Hywel, well done :))

Is this your new Fuschia alley? I love it Hywel, good job there.
29 Jun, 2014
You have been busy , Hywell .
Well done ; very satisfying I would think .
29 Jun, 2014
Thank you all :)

wowee, that's fab hywel, really like the look and practicality of it. Bella might end up sun bathing on that roof, it will get nice and warm when we get some sunshine....climbing up there sounds dangerous though, so I hope you stick to doing your sunbathing at ground level!
30 Jun, 2014
Thank you :) Bella already goes on all the roofs (garage, shed etc) so she'll probably go up there too lol ...
As for me, I'm better off on terra firma !!! :D

That's an amazing transformation and use of space. You are very talented to do this yourself.

What a great idea Hywel ...you have inspired me to do something like this
3 Jul, 2014
That's good. I'm pleased :)
Thank you ...

Like everyone above I also think you have done a really good job of the new lean-to, Hywel! For someone who doesn't like DIY you do a pretty good job!
The trellising makes your garden so much better & painting the shed white has been one of your best ideas - it makes the garden look larger & more spacious - more "airy" I think is the appropriate word!
You will be better able to show off & attend to your Fuchsias in the new lean-to & they will still get all the light they need from the transparent perspex.
A good job well done! :-))
