Just chuck them in ! ...

… and hope for the best !
That’s what I did last autumn when I planted some crocus corms in the front garden.
They needed to go in because they were starting to go mouldy in the bag,
but I didn’t have time, and it was also coming to rain,
so I just scraped out a trench, and tipped them all in.
Some went upside-down, and others went on their sides,
but I couldn’t help that, so I covered them over and hoped for the best.
Here’s the result … :-
I hope you think they look all right :o)

They look perfect Hywel and make me smile.
Mine however, (which were carefully put in place) haven't done nearly as well as yours!
I now know what to do next time though!!

I think they look better when they are random like this.

They look lovely Hywel. I have driven miles today and saw so many crocus looking stunning in the Welsh sunshine. Still not many daffs though.

Just beautiful Hywel. Love them. No problem when they die down either, off they disappear until next year to give us such beautiful colour in early spring.

I've learnt too from your blog Hywel, that you dont have to be too particular when planting which is a huge bonus.

I'm glad to be of help :)

I'm green with envy - squirrels have taken the tops off every single one this year!! I'll have to put inverted hanging baskets over them next year (or not grow them again).

Wow, they are lovely. The 2 colours really compliment each other.
My favourite view is the top photo of them side on.

Your Crocuses have done very well, Hywel! :-)) With small plants like Crocuses your "slapdash" method works because they are only under a couple of inches of soil & they are able to reach the surface before they run out of energy but I certainly wouldn't recommend it for bigger, more expensive bulbs - not even for Daffs that are relatively cheap!
Nevertheless I understand perfectly well why you did that with the Crocuses!

I have no "slapdash method". I always plant bulbs properly.
However, I did it quickly this time because it was coming to rain, and I would not have had time on later days.

Well it paid off anyway.

Yes it did ... I am quite surprised really.
Thank you :o)

Well there you go Hywel if you had spent an hour planting them up, they most probably wouldn't have looked as good as this......food for thought!!
