Old pipes

I had a small extension built on my little kitchen last summer. It’s where a damp, cold, green-with-moss, conservatory used to be.
And when the builders were digging the foundation they came across some old pipes buried in the ground. They must have been there from many years ago but were not in use now.
They dug them out and were about to chuck them in a skip, but I thought they’d look nice with some succulents planted in them …
The succulents are only cuttings at the moment but they’ll look nice when they cascade over the sides of the pipes …
I’ve taken them out of the pipes for now, and put them in the greenhouse for the winter.

Good thinking Hywel … the pipes suit the succulents.
Hope the new year will be a good one for you, a healthy and happy 2023! x

recycling at its best and very artistic too.
They'll appreciate the 'drainage'. haha

I've seen old chimney pots used in the same way and always admired them. In fact old chimney pots fetch quite a good price as antiques these days, so you might be sitting on a little gold mine there! They will look really good when the succulents have grown and overhang the edges.
Very enterprising!

Top marks for recycling! And they look like they've always been in situ - such a good idea.

Very inventive, better use than going into landfill.

You did very well there, Hywel! 😀 Those pipes will look good next year when the plants can cascade down the sides! A good idea for recycling them, too! 😀

A great idea Hywel! Once the spring is here, they should come on a treat!

Thank yo all, they will be back in the pipes after the risk of frost is over.

The pipes make quite a feature, blending in well with the other plants. Good upcycling.

What a great idea and the result is brilliant. When those succulents really get going imagine how good they will look.

great idea Hywel, and also a memory nod to your new extension.

It's a great idea Hywel and looks very natural , I used to use the bricks with holes in for planting . I like using older material for planting .
