my big plans for next year-hywel inspired!

im thinking of adding some shape to the back garden
by adding a new flower bed-all the space from the grate to the just the other side of the stepping stones with a curved edge from the patio joining to the boarder-which i will widen.

here you can see the boarder better-and sorry looking lawn :-(

i want less lawn to be honest mowing reminds me of hoovering (i do mow like i hoover lol) and that little area is so tricky i hate using the trimmer. This area gets the most sun all day which would be ideal for a lot of plants i want.
maybe a rockery would be more practical with the kids and balls around.

I also have a long strip of weedy lawn down the side of the house which i cant make my mind up about, its the only place i reckon i could fit a compost bin maybe with some form of screening in front of it plant/trellis like. Also maybe a vegi patch for the kids but its quite shady so dont know of that would work. Or just scattering a load of bulbs and wild flower seeds to naturalize then it wouldnt look too bad a little over grown in spring.

Here is the top right corner of the front-which is most seen from sitting in the living room, i murdered 2 ferns here clearing a few week ago but there are still some fronds are they called? coming up, maybe i could move it. I want to wide and curve this edge and also the side coming down which has an ugly wire fence i think some Dr.Ruppel clematis (hywel) would enjoy climbing, i want to make this side colourful to see out of the window.

And here is the top left corner i have yet to clear, this is going to be my pink plot which hywel inspired me to do! the large shrub in the corner (its name begins with P) i have cut back a lot (hope its ok) so got lots of space for tall plants on the back wall. The ugly wire fence side i think would look great with nelly moser clematis (hywel) growing on. the rest i want to keep simple an spacious with all pink flowers all year round-possibly. Ive yet to investigate my soil type but ideas are succulents in pots, a few rocks arranged around cyclamen for winter and some red heuchera/evergreens, aquilegia, geranium, tulips and other inspirations from Goyers. Also if i can find some lovely pink flowering cactai that would be lovely, all topped of with gravel or something on top. I will probably save up all year to buy plants as i want it looking great instantly lol.

Hope you enjoyed my ideas and suggestions are much appreciated…shame its gunna take til next year-though the work can start sooner, think im gunna need a skip, might be cheaper and more eco-friendly than trips in the car to the skip!
I have also found my lost digital camera too, just need some batteries for it and progress will follow!
Thanks for looking :-)))

your plans sound really good, don't make my mistake and go too small with your flower beds, I keep widening mine every year and it would have been so much easier if I had been generous to start with.. I understand though about needing grass for kiddies to play on, I have big plans for when my boys stop running around as much, ie lazy teenagers then the grass area will be much smaller:) and the borders so much bigger

the plans sound great .........looking forward to seeing it as it progresses

madabout-yeah i suppose aslong as you can reach they can never be too big-even then stepping stones are an option! aww how old are your boys? im still appreciating mine as babies now im understanding why people say they grow up so fast, but then when they're teenagers ill counting down the days till they move out and give me peace and quiet lol!
thank-you niver im sure it will entertain lol :-)

Oh wonderful ! I'm pleased to have inspired you with my pink plants :o) Good luck ...
Your garden will look much better when you've altered it, than with all that boring grass. Much more interesting aswell.
I hope you'll still be here next year to show us some photos.
