Day in the Garden..

Its been a very warm spring day just right for a few hours of enjoyment in the garden..
Caspar heading towards some birds that are further down the garden, he did get yelled at, lol…
I’ve dug over the next bed, a selection of perenials grow here under the apple tree, day lilies, stocks, cosmos, echinea and aquilegia are permanent residents, I will later add sweetpeas and sunflowers, I’d like another grass to plant in the corner, it has to cope with the pampas… Recommendations will be appreciated..
Worked my way across and round the raised bed at the bottom, I cheated here and used my long-handled trowel, my favourite tool for gardening, it saves me standing on my newly emerging bulbs and plants..
Then I dug over my little raised bed which as you can see still has some leeks planted last year, they did really well..
As you can see the soil looks black, that is because I emptied half a tub of compost over it and the remainder, which you can see through the little fence is gradually going onto the little bed that is behind the greenhouse, (ran out of time) hoping to dig that in within the next few days.
You probably saw my Tardis bin through the fence as well, that one is full to the brim and one very important reason for emptying the other one, that will have to stay there until the Autumn but when the shrubs are full of leaf it won’t be so noticeable, the empty bin itself has been placed in a new spot hidden away behind the conifers that are at the back of my bottom pond, I already have a huge bin full of leafmould down there, that little cubby hides a multitude of sins, wheelbarrow, spare buckets and all sorts of bits that just might come in useful one day. Everyone needs a cubby, lol….
The following pic is my Red Robin, it got broken in half during one of our gales, as you can see it has recovered and thriving..
Next we have my Prunus in flower, I love that tree….
Ignore the fence, its on a tilt, something else that suffered this winter, gotta be replaced during the summer months…..
Hope your weekend has been good as well……

Garden is looking lovely LL. Your cherry is lovely and you've really done well out there today. Been heavy cloud and freezing cold all day here. haven't even had a walk in the garden today. In fact I've done virtually nothing all weekend, it's just too cold for me to work out there. Tomorrow is going to be sunny though....looking forward to it!

...Ah yes...the grass. I love Stipa Gigantea...a similar size when mature.

It was such a beautiful day here as as well,Sue..did far too much in one day,but it was worth it..Your garden is looking lovely, and so neat and tidy..so satisfying, isn't it? I emptied an old trough out,and when I sifted all the Vine weevil grubs out of it,the rest has gone on a border, and the trough broken up and put in the bin:o)..It was a long job ,as I had lots of grit in there, which almost looked the same as the grubs ! Lol Love your cherry tree blossom..it's turned chilly today,so I won't be outside..:o(

So pleased I spent yesterday gardening as its really cold again today, we had to take grandson through to Melton Mowbray to the orthodontist, as most of you know I am not one for shopping unless its in a GC, luckily he's only interested in the shops that sell games for his many gadgets, none that he fancied today though, then its into Café Nero for the sweetest piece of cake and a strawberry slush which actually defeats the object of the whole outing, lol...
Thanks Karen, checked that out and liked what I saw, think that will be ideal.....

Isn't it great to get out there again after the grey days of winter? Things are looking good. I also like your cherry blossom. The idea of a long handled trowel to avoid standing on developing plants is a great idea. I must get one.

Yes the trowel sounds great - can't remember having seen one of those. The cherry blossom is lovely. I'm excited today because Tesco were selling Kojo no Mai - wanted one for ages and came home with two, one was for a house warming present for a friend moving on Thursday! Next big problem is where to put it as it will involve digging up some more lawn.

Stera I bought and planted one in my raised bed as I wanted a small tree or shrub to give a bit of height. I thought you might like to read what it says in the following link. It gives lots of options including growing in a pot, keeping it small to 1m high and planting amongst trees and shrubs. Just highlight the link and choose 'Go to----- '

I'm slow catching up again Sue ... a lot on my plate at the moment :(
Your garden is lovely.
I like that square where you've got leeks. It's nice to grow some vegies :o) I grow them in tubs.
I can see Caspar is in hunting mode ... Bella also.
This afternoon she got shouted at because she was stalking a little wren.
Your Prunus is colourful. Don't they brighten up the garden after the bleak winter :)
I hope you can get the fence sorted this summer ... there's always so much to do isn't there lol !

Hello Hywel, I had wondered as I'd missed you, hope all is well with you and Beryl, I often get behind these days, I'll never catch up on the photo's, in fact I go through them 16 at a time, I tend to take my coffee breaks with goy but of course that will stop when the weather changes as they will be taken outside, (I hope )
The Prunus was planted the first Mother's Day after we lost mum, I scattered some of her ashes around it, now it has some of dads as well, its a really lovely tree...
Oops naughty, naughty Bella, I bet you'd have had it presented to you as a gift if she'd caught it..
Luckily Caspar is useless at catching the birds Hywel as is Tipsy but I'm not sure how we'll fare soon when Toffee is allowed out, he is like grease lightning but never been outside yet, having him neutered and micro-chipped next Monday, in a couple of weeks he'll discover a whole new world and I'll be kept on my toes keeping an eye on him, its all good fun around here at the moment stopping him from escaping Hywel and I daren't open the windows whilst he is on the loose, lol...
I'm trying my best to ignore that fence until the garden and g'houses are sorted, then we can tackle the fence panels, I remember my dad saying that he didn't know how he found the time to go to work, now I know what he meant.......

Lovely to see so much in flower! :-))

Scotsgran, thank you for the link, its very encouraging.
Snoop there's no need to fill the pond in again, perish the thought - there is plenty of lawn left !
25 Mar, 2015
Stera it occurred to me that this could be a good plant in front of your rhodo.
26 Mar, 2015
Fancy you remembering that! Definitely worth considering.

Your garden is looking very good, its far more advanced than mine, although I have a couple of flowers out on the Stella, nothing on the prunus yet though. Love this time of the year although there's so much to do and the weather isn't quite right for it yet. Heavy rain here as I write so no gardening today but a trip to the gc may be in order!

Hi Fran, blowing a gale here but only a few spots of rain early this morning, gardening from the armchair today, lol...

Hi, it looks like you have been very busy Lincslass. The garden is truly beautiful. We bought our house 2 years ago and previously we had no garden but a tiny yard. I now have a medium sized country garden to tend to which I just adore. Gardening is so therapeutic :)

tThankyou Bluebell and welcome to Goy, yes its my passion and apart from the family nothing can top it, lol. I always put the world to rights when in the garden and g'houses...

This is the first time I,ve looked into these blogs, and I can see this is where the hardcore gardeners hang out. Very interesting garden Lincslass, and very tidy as well, I like that '' Red Robin '' plant you got there.

Thankyou Outlander and welcome to Goy.. I try my best, nothing too pristine or on parade but that's my style and the way I like it...

Its lovely to see all your new growth Linclass especially your Photinia Red Robin. It should give anyone, who thinks their shrubs are getting too big, the courage to cut back hard. I find most plants recover given time. Sorry I cannot recommend a grass as I do not grow any but I think something like a Choisya would make a good partner for your pampas grass. Or how about a tree heath.
