When the sunshines, things start to happen in the garden!

Got up this morning to a dull sky looking down on us, but it did not last for long. Suddenly it appeared, the big bright round thing that we have all missed so much this summer.

The garden sprung to life, the flowers opened up and the colour in the garden was amazing.

From my kitchen door looking up into the garden borders:

I washed up the breakfast pots and looked out onto my beautiful vista – what was that sat on top of my bbq? A strange looking bird, quite rare these days if we believe the powers that be. I called everyone to look and see – yes it was a baby cuckoo. Calling to be fed by its step-mum a tiny little hedge sparrow. What a sight, how on earth she thinks that this huge bird is one of her own I will never know. But she was very good and kept coming backwards and forwards to feed him/her. It sat there for ages and I managed to take pictures of it – it was not scared of me in fact I could have stroked it – I got that close!

It doesn’t take much to make me a happy bunny, sunshine, beautiful birds and a lovely garden to sit and play in. I have been out there most of the day pottering and tidying and sweeping up and clearing away debris after all the horrid weather, just hope it stays that way for a few more hours to give my latest ‘pet’ a good chance of surviving and getting strong enough to fly off to South Africa for the winter. Hope you all had as much fun in the sun as I did.

Olive your garden looks fabulous, I could stand and admire that view for hours, I`ve never seen a baby cuckoo before, ugly little thing isn`t it but there is as always a cuteness about it as with all babies, the poor sparrow must be getting worn out keeping up with the feeding.
Its windy here today but bright sunshine, meals eaten on the patio, thats two days in a row, might be a new record, lol....

Well this is the second time this month that we have had to cancel a trip to Edinburgh because of the b****y weather. Going to be pouring all day again tomorrow on Scott's public holiday. :( :( :(. I love the Cuckoo though....we don't get Cuckoos up here....oh, now, I wonder why? I'm telling you....if we didn't have a business to run, we would both be selling up and moving. Still, there are a lot of people worse off than us. Try to stay positive.... Humph!

Er, what sun would that be.............? Possibly wasn't raining, but as I was at work all weekend and the weather wasn't that spectacular when I got out, haven't really noticed any difference. Jx

Lovely pics and I hope he makes it!

Poor Karen :-( I'm still living in hope - most of our rain was during the night and it was sunny for most of today - windy, though and interspersed with cloud. Oh dear - I am becoming obsessed - I sound like a weather forecaster.

Melchisedec - it is an 80 acre piece of woodland which more or less wraps itself around us, it is beautiful but takes a lot of light away from the garden, makes plants grow taller as they reach for the light. lol. I would not swap it for anything. We are so lucky. Don't worry about the weather, it will change eventually. Possibly we shall get a milder winter which would be good after the two really bad ones we have had.

Karen at least we are not stood knee deep in sludge and mud after the rivers burst their banks. We are a lot better off than some of those poor people who are still clearing up the flood water. Weather will change it has got to, it cannot keep on raining. You will get to Edinburgh eventually, fingers crossed, have a good public holiday anyway. Go for a walk down on the beach and make the most of whatever the weather throws at you. The water always stops when it gets to the skin (Paul always says that)

Sorry Jane that you didn't get any sunshine. I am lucky not to be working, that is apart from in the garden and that is all good.

Wildrose he was ok last night, not been out there this morning yet.

Thanks for looking everyone. :O)

We have trees just over the wall - they are a mixed blessing, as you say, but I love them!

Lovely garden Olive Oil, goes in my faves along with your massive cuckoo fledgling. What a capture with your camera. It still has to fly off somewhere a long way off too. Lovely weather we had Saturday sun all day, and did too much. Yesterday I just read my Kindle a lot under the sun umbrella.

lol..."the water always stops at the skin"...that sounds just like Paul! Nice one. I'm busy cooking now for a friend who is struggling alone with two toddlers under 4! What a task that is, poor guy. If anyone deserves chocolate cake....;)

Niverdeen - I agree but they have their appeal the feathers are amazing how they are marked, hope he is ok not seen him since.

Melchi - yes they are a pain when I have to clear up all the fallen leaves in Autumn, but they are worth it in a summertime. lol.

Dorjac - thank you I have never been this close to a baby bird of any kind, it just sat and let me walk around it and take pictures, quite a show off really. Glad you got some sunshine too. :o)

Karen hope he is ok. things are not improving for him are they? It must be such hard work - he certainly deserves a chocolate cake. Hope he enjoys it, the kids will I can see them munching away as I write. lol. :O)
