10 Nov, 2009

Thanks Drb - you wont be surprised to hear that the Staithes group of artists became very popular in late Victorian times.Similar to the Newlyn group of Cornwall both locations lent themselves to dramatic scenery and events.

Thanks Morgana and Sandra.

Great picture BB know Staithes very well we went there last year with Polly and she had a little set to with another Scottie down by the river lol also my son Simon goes walking along the coastline and he taken some wonderful pictures, he has just had one of Staithes harbour blown up and it is now on the wall over the fireplace.

10 Nov, 2009

Oh PP it certainly is a lovely spot.A bit hairy walkig at times...highest cliffs on East coast of England ! What a great idea to blow up the photo and place over fireplace !

10 Nov, 2009

Jane here Jacque...if Ray thinks he might catch a glimpse of you in Staithes, dont think Ill have any trouble geting him to take me back there. Ill just convince him that the seals are mermaids. He is daft enough to believe me ! Lol

10 Nov, 2009

BB do you know Lower Newtons, Embleton Bay where the Ship Inn is? we stayed there for our Hols twice we just love the cliff top walks and sandy beaches on that coastline.

10 Nov, 2009

Well PP you really caught me there ...thought I knew the name but not in North Yorks ..only heard of Embleton in Northumberland and only Ship Inn I ve been to is in Alnmouth think this not far from Dunstanburgh and Craister sure Amblealice will help us out ..

11 Nov, 2009

so picturesque BB love it ..all what we need is lots of sunshine..

12 Nov, 2009

Thanks Deida ..would be nice and really wasnt bad for November ..like many who live by the coast feel like you reclaim where you live in winter months .

Dont get me wrong so many depend on tourists and without them many coastal resorts would be ghost towns ..

12 Nov, 2009

Wonderful hillsides. :o)

13 Nov, 2009

Great pic BB....we used to go to Whitby, Sandsend and Staithes a lot when the children were little. I remember one day there was a lot of what looked like cream stones at the sea edge and my Dad would go and try to walk on them....as he found out they were foam.........we were in absolute stitches....Lol!

13 Nov, 2009

Fantastic BB. This is one of the things I love about this site. Haven't been to Staithes for years, loved the place. One of the best things was the cinnamon teacakes when I got to the harbour :~))

13 Nov, 2009

Thanks TT ..

You ll know it well then Janey and dont suppose its changed too much poor Dad lol..a lovely coast line wonderful for fossil hunting .

All those aromas Pip ..designed to make you hungry hard to resist .

13 Nov, 2009

Love this and I thought the houses looked 'painted' too. What a lovely light quality there. So many places I haven't seen, look forward to your blog Bb. Ooooh cinnamon teacakes mmmm:-)

It almost looks to good to be real , like a painting ..... it has a charm all it's own .... :o)

22 Nov, 2009

Thanks Amy .. love the coast in winter as we get a chance to reclaim where we live . Not knocking tourists as many areas depend on them but is nice to walk around when they ve all gone home ..

22 Nov, 2009

Lovely photo BB...It sure takes me back. My favourite area in the world is the North Yorkshire coast. :o)

25 Nov, 2009

Thanks Gilli ..although a long way from home you live in a beautiful part of the world.Although never got across to West coast of Canada just mind blowing the size of it.

What a wonderful treat to drive through compared to this cramped little island .. spots like this to be treasured .

25 Nov, 2009

Wonderful view from up there........

25 Nov, 2009

A cramped little island it may be BB but it has a unique gentle charm that I have been unable to find anywhere else. :o)

26 Nov, 2009

I love Staithes and the locals pronounce it Steighs my Mother in Law had a lot of relatives there and in Whitby, she always claims to be descended from whalers and pirates that jumped ship from the Spanish ships. LOL she is 95 now and full of tales.

There is a Ship Inn at Saltburn I think that is only a few miles North of Staithes and just 3 miles South of where I live.

29 Nov, 2009

Thanks DD ..

Yes Gilli abscence does make the heart grow fonder and guess its very different visiting a country to living there permanently but what little I saw of Canada I loved .

Yes Maggie a lovely area on your doorstep as often say to friends and family in South who imagine Middlesborough to be hugely industrial ..parts are but a few minutes away is some beautiful countryside.

Your mother in law sounds a great character wasn t our coast more often raided by the Vikings ? Spanish Pirates seem much more romantic though ..

30 Nov, 2009

Your probably right B.b. but her maiden name was Kingston and I do know that that was a name taken by foreigners to our shores it was Kings son and changed over the years apparently. We did have lots of smugglers in the area though didnt we. We have been all over this Country over the years camping and now in our motorhome, although we have or did have!! a big industrial base, we have the most beautiful coastline and countryside that you can find, it is only our weather that lets us down.

30 Nov, 2009

We did Maggy some of these villages still have caves and homes with trap doors to take in contraband.VAT being what it is think I d be happy to see them use it again ..yep no middle ground here is there?

Wet is very wet snow is very deep windy very windy sunny is quite warm ..despite all that best coast line beaches food and people if only closer to the south so few would visit Cornwall.

30 Nov, 2009

Lovely picture Bonkersbon. We stayed in an inn along the harbour at Whitby one year, and very early in the morning got up and watched the fishing boats unload their catch.

16 Dec, 2009

A lovely sight to see Lindak. We also like to go onto the cliffs at Ravenscar and watch the grey seals. They come in so close when its breeding season .

17 Dec, 2009

They are such beautiful creatures and we saw some when we went to the Isle Of Man two years ago.

18 Dec, 2009

Looks a lovely place. Certainly very picturesque and the sort of place I'd like to do a watercolour of.

20 Dec, 2009

about 20 miles north of Robin Hoods bay Toto.If you come up this way again our door is always open to you. ( Although we may be out ) Lol

20 Dec, 2009

I do hope your out as it will give me time to search for you wallet.

20 Dec, 2009

Hi Toto...Jane here Do you honestly think he would go out without that !! Its welded to him ! Tightwad ! Lol

20 Dec, 2009

The best laid plans and all that eh!

20 Dec, 2009

Shhhh you will scare him !! Doesnt like folk talking about the W word !!

20 Dec, 2009

Sorry Jane I don't want to scare him so close to Christmas. I wouldn't want him to become to rigid with fear that he can't get "it" open long enough to get you a prezzie.

21 Dec, 2009

LOL !
