my Dad was a farmer many years ago and I never saw anything like this, its beautiful

We don't know what variety they are Val , they grow a lot for Kettle crisps it might be a variety they grow for them ... we will try to find out !

will be intresting to know what type they are and what they are used for, put this on my favs

People do plant colourful veg into the borders here Lori especially if they have a small garden , some things you don't think of Fran unless you live in a farming community like us .. :o)

Val we have found out from the farmer that the potatoes are called ' Maris Peer ' :o)

they're a nice variety, but I'm still pining for King Edwards - don't seem to be sold round here any more

Maris Peer is an egg-shaped salad potato with cream flesh lifted by honey and primrose. The skin peels off easily when cooked to reveal a pale cream flesh.

The aromas of the cooked potato are of freshly cut grass, a meadow freshness with a hint of citrus, finishing with notes of sweet butter.

In the mouth the Maris Peer potato has a fresh, clean appeal. It is medium bodied, with a subtle, elegant expression of flavour, with undertones of cream and butter and highlights of fresh green peas and asparagus. You can still buy King Edward pot.seed to grow in your garden Fran but they have gone out of favour with farmers , new varieties are less susceptible to disease ....

I have only a pocket size garden, everything in pots or torughs. I only use plant potatoes that have started sprouting before I got arouind to eating them - or even, the last time, when I'd got them home from the shop! - so I just chuck 'em into spare pots and hope for the best.

What a lovely idea Fran wouldn't it be fun ,I remember harvest times as always being hot ,our legs scratched and bleeding from the corn stalks while we chased rabbits with a big stick while they ran from the combine .. needless to say we never did catch one LOL ...

all it needs is for several of us to win the lottery - it's my turn this week, so who's up for the millions next week??
