Thanks for the Welcome!

I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the welcoming comments from so many of you over the last couple of days!
Let me tell you about my garden – it faces west which means we have good sunsets. As we live in a bungalow we get sun in most of the garden all day.
The soil is clay but has been fed with compost I guess for many many years so the clay is under control. When we came to live here in 2001, the garden was a little overgrown, to say the least! The previous owners were not really interested and had let three yellow flowering plants take over. I wonder if you can guess what they were; 1. Kerria – had spread into the lawns and all borders. 2. Montbretia – ok if under control of course 3. Yellow Lysimachia (loosetrife?) It was colourful of course but what a wilderness …
It probably took the best part of a year to get things under control. Now I am aiming for low maintenance borders with shrubs. But having said that, I still plant foxgloves, lupins and delphiniums every year. I love hardy geraniums and have many types these days.
I work part-time (co-ordinating a Walking for Health scheme across the lovely city of Cardiff. More on that another time, if anyone is interested? ) So I dont have as much time as I would like to garden.
As always we have busy time in spring and autumn. By “we” I mean my hubby , daughter Rachel, and myself. Hubby and Rachel tackle the vegetables, hubby makes very good compost. We have four council compost bins. Rachel says it looks as if the Triffids have arrived, but we hide them behind some trellis.
We have a pond and a greenhouse and the good old garden shed, which usually hosts some little rodents under the bird seed. We have lots of birds, by the way, the focal point being the gnarled old apple tree.
Thats enough from me for now – I will try to send a couple of pics if I can cope with the technology……….Next time I will tell you about our occasional flooding problems and will ask for some advice about some mysterious little black turds which apper in the garden every couple of days……..

Lovely garden, Rachelsmum. If the little black turds are cigar shaped it sounds as if you have a hedgehog passing through regularly, lucky you!

Lovely pics, interesting blog, look forward to more. Who's the lady with white hair in the background in one of the pics?

Nothing wrong with your eyesight Bamboo! lol

There is, Lily, I have about 4 pairs of glasses now, infuriatingly, considering I never had them at all till I got late forties! But obviously, I wear them to read the stuff on here, and I did notice the lady...

Me too Bamboo, I had about 4 pairs too but cut it down to varifocals and reading ones for longer spells of reading but they still drive me up the wall and always will I think. Hate wearing them but can't see much without - they don't really compensate for 'proper' vision do they?
Sorry Rachelsmum for going off at a tangent1 :o))

Lovely garden Rachelsmum. I love Foxgloves and Delphiniums too. Hope you don't have too many problems with flooding (but it sounds like you know how to deal with it) A big welcome to GOY from me as well :-)

Bamboo
the lady with the white hair is in fact hubby who obviously needed a haircut!
I think he was in the pond when I took the picture. I will do a little feature on my pond one day and put on a pictute of him in the pond

Oh goodness! the figure in the pic is tiny and all you can see really is a person with longish grey hair - how fab to have such a lot of hair though;-))
