morning all
took advantage of a lovely sunny afternoon yesterday and took some pics around the nursery and garden…

i like the way the autumn allows the evergreens to take centre stage…this dogwood is creeping up th bank lovely…

the last of the tomatoes….they have been brilliant this year. i’ll probably pull the rest of the plants this week….they are ripening if i pick them and bring them into the house…

these are my stock of lampranthus for next year all tucked up with fleece standing by…

my cactus/succulent shed is filling up fast and i still have a few to gather in…

this corner of the shed has been renamed as santas workshop. i have been busy making patchwork pillows a uilt and a few other things. it makes a nice change from plants sometines…

this is downstairs in the shed where my kids hang out and practice thier music..the fire helps keep the frost off the cactus upstairs..

had great fun with my new electric chain saw yesterday….getting the wood pile ready for winter…

we take our recycling seriously…its amazing how many bottles etc. they get through ….lol

on into my greenhouse which houses my aeonium collection

outside again….things are fine after this weeks horrendous winds..

this geranium maderence is in my top ten..i hope it survives the winter….

i watched this cordyline blowing in the gale force ten winds and am delighted its still standing…

up to the top of the hill now…

the rain has its good point..the valley below floods every winter and we get loads of birds arriving to take advantage of the ‘lagoon’….

Julian and the boys have been trying to replace some rotten wood on the roof…hoping it get finished today as its very calm here for a change…

and finaly….this is a christmas cactus that belonged to my greatgrandmother and has been passed down to me….it never fails to bloom….

happy Sunday..Sandra..:-)

14 Nov, 2010

i would like a shed to hide in on any day ~ sounds a good idea to me, lucky sister i say ~ thats a very nice present

Loved your blog and photos, like Heron i like the woodburner and easy chair.

14 Nov, 2010

You`ve a lot going on there Sandra but with a woodburner and a remarkably comfortable chair me thinks I would not get much done.lol.

I agree Stroller, a warm glass of mulled wine, a mince pie (doesn't have to be Christmas) the smell of burning logs, not to mention your slightly smoking boots against the fire and that warm glow on your cheeks. All a distant memory for most of us now.

thats what the winter is all about for me.....from spring- summer there are not enough hours in the day to get it all done..but from now till begining of feb...its hard to get going outside so we retreat into the shed on windy wet days...but today we have had a lovely day and it was nice to be outside..:-)

It all looks very busy Sandra,I like your shed and can see why you would spend time in there , bet its cosy when that burner is lit, I have xmas cactus here but never ever get any flowers even though I`ve had them for years..
Your lagoon is a grand place to overlook.....

what memories heron, i love that mulled wine, its served outside in austria at little stalls in the town centres ~ nice idea i think

evening Lincs..
i put mine outside in the summer and forget about it....then in september i bring it in and feed and water it. what do you do with yours in the summer?

mulled wine by the fire sounds nice Sticki..but my weaving would go skewiff...he he he we had christmas dinner out there last year as there was just too many of us to fit in the kitchen. the best bit was we left the mess out there till the following day...:-)

14 Nov, 2010

that sounds a very sensible idea ~ we should be having builders in soon ~ if they dont start quickly we shall be having dinner in the garage!
what weaving do you do?

14 Nov, 2010

i grow some willow and each year i do a bit. i have make a few baskets but this year im weving some plant supports for christmas presents. i like to include other materials like dogwood grape vine and ivy.
what r your builders comming to do?

that weaving sounds very interesting, all the best with it
builders are hopefully going to extend the lounge a little ~ its very dark and we are hoping to make it lighter and give a view of the garden

14 Nov, 2010

i do hope so sandra, you have all worked so hard, you deserve it all, fingers crossed here :o))

14 Nov, 2010

You amaze me..... how do you find time for all you do, such a large nursery and grounds to look after, I take my hat off to you Sandra, being a farmers daughter I know how time consuming it is and how dead tired you are at the end of the day!! I hope next year goes well for you and your family as San says you deserve it.

15 Nov, 2010

aww thanks girls..there is lots of hard work but its doing something we love so it makes it easier.:-)

Love the pics, lovely cosy warmth by the fire. There's some interesting plants you have there. But lucky you, menfolk to do work ontop of the house. My OM, keeps looking up at the missing tile space on the roof and says we'll have to get that sorted soon. 2 rungs up the ladder and he gets nervous.

15 Nov, 2010

we looked at our problem for years..it was only when the water started dripping into the bedroom they finaly got up there...

15 Nov, 2010

Loads of interest there, Sandra!!!! So glad that the winds have died down, now, for you. :-))

Great blog Sandra, good to see you are ready for the winter. I like your Aeonium collection and Geranium maderense is one of my faves too. I have yet to overwinter it in London.

16 Nov, 2010

thanks David and Rbt....
the maderence sometimes gets through our winter so fingers crossed....

18 Nov, 2010
