I have had kalanchoe daigremontiana —-Mexican hat plants for years. It has sat there looking lovely dropping its babies here and there. Then this year it did this!

i have had this plant for years..some times drives me mad the way it drops its babies everywhere….

Only takes one to find a home

any little space will do

These babies have been in this tiny pot for a year or two just sitting there and the a couple of them decided to grow like Jacks bean stalk

soo much excitement when i realised they were going to flower

well flower they did….and they lasted for weeks…

and now it looks like its going to do it all over again…

Oh wow! aren't they amazing? I had no idea they could flower like that!

I have two of these and both have flowered and yes they do drop their babies everywhere, mine came a couple of years back in a batch of succulents I purchased off the web, I stand them outside through the summer but in my G'house for the rest of the year, flowers are just forming again now they are back inside, I hadn't got a clue of the name Sandra so thankyou for the blog, I do like your tiered arrangement, I have thought of doing that to mine as its sometimes difficult to find room for all of them but was a bit unsure which ones to try together, its thanks to your advice that I got them through last winter....

The plants in the tiered pots are always a bit hit and miss Lincs. tried a few things before they seemed to settle in and get going. A friend of mine works a garden in Tenerief in exchange for a holiday at the end of each season he has told me they grow 3 - 4 feet tall. so I am going to pot loads of the babies up and see what the do in the garden next year...

they tend to send up a flower spike after a very dry spell followed by watering. mine flower every year as I often forget to give them water. used to be known as byrioffilum [not sure of the spelling] when I was at school. brilliant plant for showing asexual reproduction.

Such huge stems from such a small pot!

I know GF...it's amazing how they can survive on such little soil.

How do you know when to repot? My Crown of Thorn plants are in a tiny pot & have flowered constantly for 15 mths now which is how long I've had them.

If plants are happy leave them alone GF. It's amazing how they survive in small pots..although I am going to pot up some into bigger pots to see if they do things differently in the spring.

Wow! that's fantastic. I have a kalanchoe but it's not the same. they are amazingly sturdy determined plants. true survivors.

Thats why i love them Lori...tough little things..

I wonder if my kalanchoe will respond to the wet/dry treatment? They sat in a pot on my deck in thoroughly soaked soil and looked quite happy...since they are a succulent I was amazed that they tolerated the wet. I've brought them inside and they're in the process of drying out...will I water again? This is going to be interesting. I have a large euphorbia and a ponytail palm that are in the same pot and both seem to be thriving with all the wet they had this summer... it's a learning curve I'm on here...

As they are inside now i would let them dry and then water again. If they are warm they will keep on growing in the winter. It's the only time my house plants get any attention...
