It's freezing!!

It’s funny how one mild winter can soon make you forget just how cold it can be at this time of the year.
We’ve had frost here for almost 2 weeks – only 1 day was completely frost free!!
I had a little accident the other week – I sliced through the top of my fingers with the sharp edge of a sheet of stainless steel – nothing serious – it was the fact that it was right on the tips that made it very difficult to do very much garden wise as I hate wearing gloves.
Fingers are all healed and I can get on with the job of painting the Kitchen this week – better late than never I suppose!!
I thought maybe some of you might like to see some frosty pictures….
Frosty Geum leaves – which did have a few flower buds but the frost has put paid to them…..
Looking like a child’s chemistry experiment – the chrystals reaching outwards and upwards on the Euonymus leaves…..
The curvy leaves of Heuchera americana ‘Plum Pudding’
weighted down with ice….
As frozen as the pond it is growing near – Ajuja reptans ‘Burgundy Glow’….
Close up – the stems of Hebe ‘Green Globe’ – rising from the frozen ground….
Leucothoe ‘Red Lips’ leaves look like they are snuggling around to keep warm….
Heuchera ‘Binoche’ looking like it’s been dusted with icing sugar….
Heuchera Berry Smoothie or is that Berry Sorbet?….
Liquorice sticks dipped in fizzy sherbet!! Ophiopogon looks good enough to eat….
A carpet of Saxifraga under a carpet of frost
In a bit of a sheltered corner – this fern has just been kissed by a tiny wee bit frost….
Abies balsamea ‘Hudsonia’ glistening in the dark….
This little Robin doesn’t need furry winter boots to get around….
Can someone tell me what this little chap(ess) is – you can see it in the shot above just under the bird table. I had thought at first it was a young robin but now I’m not so sure.
Although very common birds – the Chaffinches are not such a regular visitor to my garden…
I know I’ve already posted a picture of Woodrow – a great spotted woodpeck – but I just couldn’t resist a couple more…

Ouch! The finger accident sounds nasty. Nice frost pics though :)
The little brown/grey bird is a dunnock. They tend to feed on the ground so you don't notice them as much, though they do seem to take seeds from hanging feeders occasionally, especially the ones I hide in the shrubs. I had some nesting here earlier in the year but there's none around now.

Although they made me shiver your photo`s are lovely Scottish, I prefer it cold and dry myself, I can add an extra layer of clothing, the frost looks pretty which is far better than very depressing wet, grey days...

As always Scottish, your part of the country is much colder than mine! We do have cold and frost, but nothing like this! I don't have visible crystals on my leaves like that. Just hard ground and white grass. I hope it doesn't go on too long because I can't get on with my renovations!

Brrr - very pretty but I can do without it! Good to just enjoy your pictures instead! I agree the little brown bird is a dunnock - very like a sparrow but more stripy, and its beak is thin rather than chunky.

Wow that is some frost Scotie, thought ours was bad enough but nothing like yours. It seems to have come earlier this year doesnt it? Glad your finger is in one piece, take more care now!

Such pretty pictures, Scottish, especially the heucheras - Bbbrrrrrrrr, that does look cold! We had a very mild frost here a few mornings ago, but nothing much worse than that. However, it looks like a Christmas card out there at the moment, with heavy snow coming down and covering everything. It doesn't feel particularly cold, though. Not looking forward to driving on mountain roads tomorrow, it will have frozen before morning.

Lovely photos you have there.
I found a large book of ice crystals once, amazing photos.....and SO expensive I didn't buy it!!!
Great Woodpecker pics too, they are so shy. Maybe I will erect a hide in my kitchen!!!

Great pics Scottish, has me shivering in my shoes. The birds take your mind off the cold. We are having the same weather although we have had snow for the second time today or rather during the night. It will probably turn to rain and then be very messy. Yuk. Take care everybody going out driving in this weather.

Beautiful sparkly pics. Glad that your finger is getting better and I hope that some warmer weather might be on the way for you. I like to see the snow but it does make life complicated doesn't it?
