Well some of you may remember the sad story of Fred
http://www.growsonyou.com/stevietheterrible/blog/19966-freds-story
but then came more and his cousin made it and stayed tweeting for a few days behind my pots

Whats this, bedding?
You want me to guard this one Stevie?

Did you ever see that film 'field of dreams'? The famous quote from that was 'build it and they will come' so I hope now you have built them they all come and nest in those boxes Stevie!
Love the little painted one but I think the birds will be happy with all of them.

Hope they're full this spring.I've had 2 nesting boxes for years and neither has ever been used despite my moving them a couple of times.
probably because there is a huge conifer hedge next door and many birds nest there!

Thanks folks, they seem to love going into the eaves but the younguns tend to fall out of the front, but at least theres another option there if they want it
19 Feb, 2013
Such a choice how could they resist, love your beautiful wall...

hope the boxes do well steve, love the painted on, there may be arguments who will get that one lol :o)

great stuff StheT, Fred was a sparrow so as long as the holes are 1.5" in diam they will love it. Your pallet skills could fashion a sparrow communal nesting accom. Just a long multi roomed affair, they love that. Plenty of plans on the web for em. Looking forward to photos of potential residents.

With the small ones, its either the hole or take the front top half off. Will go with the hols for now as there are lots of blue-tits round here . Will have a gander at a sparrow box

oh, that's an idea... hope they will like them:) how about the numbers? so you can keep us updated?
you have a spare one? if it wasn't for Masha I would be shouting - I want one!!!
Although she's calmed down a bit now, there is plenty of birds in my neighbours' gardens - and I am feeding them as well- so maybe I could put it on the tree just outside the fence?

I should add that the bottom one of the three look like it might be being used. Either that or they've been in there stealing the bedding

Local jackdaws, here, aren't above tugging threads from clothes hung out to dry.
Clever birds, but they seem to spend most of their time squabling amongst themselves.
Avian chavs? LOL!

Just put bedding and nesting stuff out. Bits of wool that Pru pulled out from an old manly sheepskin. Torn up jay cloth and weed liner stuff. Got no nest boxes though. I was wondering I'd I could ball up some chicken wire, making sure there are no sharp bits........?

I love the painted birdhouse Steve. I hope that all of the bird houses will take some residents in soon. Spring is coming.
