The GOOD ... the BAD ... and the UGLY !!!!!!!!

First of all comes the GOOD
My hearing not being so good as time takes us down the slippery slope of old age I decided on a new water feature one that I could actually hear as the waterfall to the pond was too far away.So I thought it best to be on the left of the patio where I sit for my morning cuppa weather permitting. I had an old pump there as a feature so decided to use that together with a black trug a little alluminum bucket and a few broken slabs – what would I do without all my old broken slabs. This is what I came up with ……….. a bit old hat, but I like it.
Ok I can already hear some of you laughing – but no as yet I don`t have to go more often, well not as yet anyway.lol.

At the opposite end of this comes my beautiful Jasmin as it was last year,

but following close behind we have the
BAD
Before it came into flower this year the leaves on the Jasmin looked as if they were covered in black soot as you can see here

! so a quick trip to my local GC they recommended that I should give it a good wash almost every leaf and then spray with a systemic insecticide for use against cushion scale. This worked pretty well on most parts but unfortunately I have had to cut away a lot of it as you can see its looking rather bare and denuded … so now we have …
the UGLY

However, I shall spray it again when its finished flowering and hope that it recovers, if not then it will have to be replaced with something else.
So there we have it the Good, the Bad and the Ugly but I wouldn`t have it any other way as gardening never stays static and its this that makes it so interesting.

That's. really nice water feature Stroller!I bet that Jasminoide(tracholospermu ) smells fantastic.I used to have a beauty at my old house but never seen one as big as this!hopefully, it will grow back to similar size again!
The sooty mould should be easy enough to treat effectively.Usually looks worse than it is....good luck!

Thanks Paul, I have reluctantly sprayed it with a systamic insecticide and just hope it does the trick for as you say the scent is wonderful as you come out of the kitchen doors.

How creative you are Phyl, love it except that I would have to wear ear plugs OR install an outside loo!Hope your Jasmine gets back to its former beauty;0)

Ta Carole and Pam, at least with the bucket it disperses it a bit otherwise coming straight from the pump it sounds like a horse peeing.

You've done a grand job there Stroller. I hope the jasmine recovers...what a horrid disease that is. :( enjoy your morning cuppa...hope the weather stays ok a little longer so you can make good use of you efforts! :)

Water feature looks great. I do hope you succeed in beating the Sooty Mould. A shame to loose such a beautiful plant.

Great job, sort of thing I do with my old slabs, got to make do and mend eh! it looks good, no waste for us. We are good at recycling old slabs here, my crazy paving came from the council throwing away footpaths and o h brought them home and I hit them hard and paved us a pathway with them. lol. good therapy :O) Don't think I would like to tackle it now though, the old back isn't up to hammering and bashing things anymore. lol. Love the new water feature and hope that your climber recovers for you I am sure it will :O)

Thanks Bloomer hope you enjoy the lunch best thing to do when you can`t be in the garden, and as you say the rain is much needed.
Karen what are you like !!!!!!!!!! your going to need a removal van just for the plants.lol.
Kim we have found it relaxing but not today as we are getting the much needed rain as the garden was so dry after the lovely hot weather we have been having.

That jasmine MUST keep going to continue to give you that wonderful perfume! We have one in our porch and I know how special they are.
I love your new water feature and I hope it is very soothing as you drink your morning cuppa! I so like the sound of trickling water.

Is this your trachelospermum Phyl? What causes sooty mould? Now some people are too clever by half ...but I must concede you've made a good job of that water feature, it looks great and as you so delicately put it, better than a peeing horse lol:-) I know I'm late catching up, but sometimes it seems impossible:-))

Thanks Wildrose, keeping my fingers crossed.
BA, it is my Trachy, it looks such a poor specimen ... I just hope that it survives after all my TLC. Cushion scale is a sap sucking insect which covers the leaves with a sort of honey substance which gets covered with a sooty mould, it can also happen to Rhodedenron & Camillia.

I've got scale insects on my variegated trachy and wasps are attracted to it ...oh noooo I'll have to google:-((
