Lovely blooms you have there lovely show with your Magic Marlot and Irish Dusk that is very pretty.

5 Jan, 2011

Yours look so much happier than any of mine. My J nudifolium is totally devoid of flower but I am sure it will recover, its as tough as old boots. Very cold driving rain today, but at least it has washed away yesterday's snow.

You must have a mild climate where you are Terra. How fantastic to have so many flowering, surely some are early? I can only look with wonder through green eyes lol:-)

5 Jan, 2011

Oh you are lucky Tt to have so many shrubs doing well right now....and to have Rosemary flowers! My Jasmine is looking very sad compared to how it was and even the new bells of Wisley cream have shrivelled and died....:o(( Like yours though I've a few Pieris that are looking well, so all is not lost...:o)

5 Jan, 2011

It's amazing that anything survived the temperatures that we had. The plants must have antifreeze in their sap. Glad yours have come through alright.

5 Jan, 2011

Lovely to see a little bit of colour from your garden, Tt.

5 Jan, 2011

Its grand to see flowers from the garden after all that frost and snow and those buds are filling out well.....

5 Jan, 2011

looks like a nice spring day there TT, wonderful show of plants,

5 Jan, 2011

You are a lucky one to have all that going on in your garden, are you very sheltered? I wish our Skimmia looked half that good, lovely to see thanks TT a cheering sight indeed.

5 Jan, 2011

5 Jan, 2011

They are all doing so well Terra and Im sure just seeing them brightened your day;0)

5 Jan, 2011

Thank you everyone for your comments ...
... some of the plants in the photos are in quite sheltered areas, but not all of them ...

Hi Grandmage ... yes, Viburnum tinus :o)))

Sticki ... perhaps experiment with pruning some parts of your winter jasmine early this year ... might encourage more flowers next time :o))

5 Jan, 2011

your plants are all looking good and healthy TT, lots in bloom which is nice to see..

5 Jan, 2011

Hello Joanella...
Thanks.
I was surprised just how much was in flower ...
seems like the snow actually protected some of the plants. :o)

5 Jan, 2011

You have some lovely flowers on your shrubs Terra, I have a lot of bud on my Rhodedendrons, and today have noticed new lovely green leaves appearing on my Hydrangeas. I wanted to have a look around the garden to see what else was beginning to move, but the wind was sooooo strong and it was freezing, I decided to leave it till the wind dies down, mind you they've forcast snow for us tomorrow.......Oh Well!!!!!

5 Jan, 2011

Hi Lin ...
I know what you mean about the chilly winds ...
... I got very cold taking these photos and was glad to get back indoors !

... yes, there are shoots on the hydrangeas ...
... a good sign ... but, you're right ....
... the UK is due yet more snow this week !

5 Jan, 2011

how early is early to prune the jasmine? do i start this month? and how much do i cut back?

5 Jan, 2011

Depends on the weather... I only suggested the idea because in the past I've noticed there were more flowers on those branches which had been pruned ...

It would be worth experimenting with a couple of areas on your plant ... prune one back hard, and another a lighter trim...

5 Jan, 2011

ok, thank you.

5 Jan, 2011

Lots going on there, Tt! I have that Skimmia, too - and I love it. My Viburnum has lots of buds, but they're determined to stay tightly closed at the moment.

Isn't it a treat to see flowers in the garden, though. :-))

5 Jan, 2011

What a lovely show you have TT, It has been too cold and soggy underfoot to explore fully here but Bodnantense Dawn is full of flower alongside the drive
Thank you for sharing and hopefully no more snow for any of us! :o)

6 Jan, 2011

Nice to see flowers and buds in your garden TT. Doesn't it make you feel happy to see them :o)
Thanks for showing them to us.

6 Jan, 2011

Thanks Sh, Neena and Hywel ...
I was surprised and pleased to see so many buds, and promise of pretty colours to come ...:o)

6 Jan, 2011

That's amazing, TT, and thank you for giving us a treat (even if we do feel a bit jealous, now!). Are you sure you live in England?? Tho' I think Dorset and Devon escaped the worst of the weather . . . I lived near Poole many years ago, and we did seem to have long, sunny summers. Yes, plenty of promise there. :)

6 Jan, 2011

Hi Sheila ... thanks ...

As I walked around with my camera, I found lots more flowers than I had expected to see ....
The snow seems to have put a protective blanket over some of my plants ... Not so long ago, the skimmia was weighed down with snow ...

My back garden is quite well sheltered by high fences, sheds and tall shrubs... I guess sometimes it is the cold winds which cause the most damage to plants ...

6 Jan, 2011

my mum lives in south east devon ~ they had 4 or 5 inches of snow and her village/town was virtually cut off with ice for a few days.

6 Jan, 2011

Lovely pictures- surprised so much in flower when weather has been so bad, lucky you! :-)

6 Jan, 2011

My plants were under several inches of snow in December till after Christmas ...

Hi Red aly ... you're right ...
...I'm lucky to have these plants trying their best to give me January flowers :o)

6 Jan, 2011

Wow Sticki. I stand (sit) corrected. :(

6 Jan, 2011

Sorry lol you know how absent minded I am :o)
Thanks for the reminder. I'll send you a pm later on x

6 Jan, 2011

Okay Hywel...
... can't understand how that envelope took so long to reach you... talk about snail mail ! !!!

Sheila... I hope you're sitting comfortably ;o)

6 Jan, 2011

lovely to see some colour...my garden`s looking very sad

6 Jan, 2011

Hi Elsiemay...
I hope your garden perks up soon ...
Once this cold weather eases, it's amazing how quickly the bulbs and primroses will start giving a colourful display ...

6 Jan, 2011

It could be a Summers Day - there's dreaming for you. Lovely to see the flowers at this time of year.

6 Jan, 2011

Hi Kfunsters ... Thanks ...
Some of the flowers look summery ...
... but I was getting very cold taking the photos ! Lol..

6 Jan, 2011

Lovely to see so much colour, TT. Not much chance of spotting anything here today - we've had heavy rain all night and day. My front lawn and path are under water and my poor elderly neighbours opposite have been pumping out most of the day. More rain forecast for tonight too :( Your photos cheered me up :)

6 Jan, 2011

Ooh... Gee ...
Sorry to read you and your neighbours have had so much rain ...
... I'm pleased these pics cheered you up ...
I hope you get some sunshine at the weekend :o)

6 Jan, 2011

Glad to see they've survived.......:o)))

6 Jan, 2011

I Hate you !!!!!!! where on earth do you live in the UK

My Skimmia is looking frost burnt, my myrtle is decidedly sick - have buds on Camellia but the only thing in flower are the Heathers - battling on against all weather plus I discovered some Iris bulbs poking thro this morning - Snowdrops are starting to show themselves...... but 90% of the garden is asleep.... don't blame it -- I am not tempted out while the temp is still reading =-3

Am very envious.... keep up the good work - will look for pics in a few weeks
Grandmamoy

6 Jan, 2011

Hi Mushy ...
... yes I'm lucky to have all these survivors ...
I hope your garden coped okay with the snow ... :o)

Hello Grandmamoy ...
Maybe we should now all hibernate till March. Lol. ;o)
Glad you like these pics ...

7 Jan, 2011

heavy snow last night ,never really cleared since its started, can't see any of the garden at the moment everything covered again, glad you were able to keep yours they look good, maybe some have survived, just have to wait and see.

8 Jan, 2011

Hi Khayla ...
I saw on the TV news of more snow in Scotland ... I hope your garden plants are safe beneath the snow ...

8 Jan, 2011

Amazing TT, what a difference looking at all that colour makes on these dreary days

9 Jan, 2011

Hi Bob ... I guess my garden must be a bit more sheltered than some others on GoY. My hydrangeas are putting on shoots too ....

9 Jan, 2011

You have done very well indeed TT...........Credit to you :-)

9 Jan, 2011

Hello Louis ... thank you :o)

9 Jan, 2011

Great blog Terra :o)

10 Jan, 2011

What a cheery blog, Terra. I am resting after surgery so haven't inspected my domain yet. Now I will have to go out and check for lifesigns. I live a mile from the sea on the South Coast and normally don't see snow, but we have had three lots in the space of 10months, November's being the deepest at six inches. The local children are loving it as they rarely get the change to play in snow. Somehow don't think my plants love it!!!!

11 Jan, 2011

i was just looking at this again ~ how did you do those lovely snowflakes in the title TT?

11 Jan, 2011

wow TT what a wonderful bunch of healthy happy plants , I am amazed at the flowering, in all of the gardens I work in there is very little happening lots of buds but not alot else. My garden is also looking bare. what is your secret ? Mind you in one of my gardens I have spent weeks of planting bulbs over a 5 acre plot to have the snow disappear and the rabbits have a feast. The new fences are up and electric gates ready just have to weedle the last few out. Mind you the allium bulbs survived so that should be quite a show in the spring.. sorry waffling on please let me know of any tips though thanks :)
I especially love the skimmia, are they easy to take cutting from? :)

11 Jan, 2011

Hi Lizzy ...
I hope your convalescence is going well :o)
Could be that the snow will have protected your garden plants and you'll be pleasantly surprised by lots of new spring growth ! Fingers crossed...

Hello Jewells ...
I don't have to contend with rabbits in my flower beds ... Lol...

I've put quite high fences and trellises around my gardens, so they are well protected ... I wonder if, in some parts of the UK, it is the cold winds which do the most damage ...

The skimmia is lovely, isn't it. I haven't yet tried cuttings, but it looks a suitable candidate ... :o)
