For Japan ... Prunus OKU MIYAKO ...

I’m fulfilling my promise to GoY member Ptarotuos …

On 18th March, he suggested that we could all

“plant something for Japan” …

… and I said I would post pictures of my favourite Prunus when it started to bud …

… Oku Miyako … in my front garden …

Miyako is also the name of a city in Eastern Japan …

It was affected badly by the earthquakes and tsunami.

These photos have been taken over the past days …

… for the people, pets and wild creatures of Japan

I hope as my Miyako tree bursts into full blossom …

… you are starting to overcome the recent disasters in your country …

Every time I look at this tree, I’ll think of you all … xxx

What a wonderful thought TT - I agree with you entirely. It's hard to believe that in this day and age there are people in world who have absolutely nothing, such as a lot of the survivors in Japan. We witter on about wanting this and that for our gardens and they don't even have a home let alone a garden. It certainly makes you think about what is really important in life doesn't it.

How thoughtful of you Terra, for some reason my Acers look particularly good this year so perhaps as Linclass says..its about new beginnings for Japan. They have suffered far too much......

14 Apr, 2011

Hi Sheila and Sandra ...
New beginnings are definitely needed for Japan
... so much suffering ...

... the Prunus blossom and Acers are making a statement
... I hope Ptarotuos and family and friends are coping okay.

Thats a beautiful tree , TT, I wonder how old it is?

I have lost a few trees and think I will buy a prunus to commemorate Japan's problems.

14 Apr, 2011

such a terrible tragedy in Japan i hope that nature will repair the beautyful foliage and indeed help the residents during this unfortunate period.

14 Apr, 2011

Fantastic blog. Love the sentiment and the plant! I have yet to choose a plant for Japan, but I do have a spot for it now, where my pittosporum was!

14 Apr, 2011

A wonderful thought to have blog to share and remember Japan.

Thankyou TT I to planted a prunus yesterday in place of my holly that was damaged to the winter.

Kojo-NO-Mai

Its going to take a long long time to repair Japan.

In my old house a lot of years a go we planted a prunus and wish I had taken it with me but left it.

And the new owners dug it out and it was in blossom when we sold the house.

15 Apr, 2011

Hi Scotkat ...

I hope your new Prunus gives you lots of pleasure...

How sad that the people who bought your house dug out your other tree... and while it was actually in blossom ! :o(

In the past, I have planted Miyako in gardens I have owned, but, when I moved on, always had to leave behind the then mature Miyako trees ... I hope that the families in those properties have kept the trees and still enjoy them ...

15 Apr, 2011

Sorry TT I forgot to say how much I like this lovely tree. The idea behind dedicating a plant to remembering the Japanese people is very effective. Every time I see mine I too remember and wonder how they are really coping.

15 Apr, 2011

Hi Scotsgran ...
