Lovely pictures Clarice :-)))
I seem to be the only one with stroppy, hostile and bullying Robins :-(
I wonder why the ones here dive bomb the finches and tits and chase them away ?
9 Jan, 2010
The robins are suppose to be territorial (dont know if i spelt that right) are'nt they, hope your saying is not true, had enough of it, mind you 1962-1963 winter started like this and stayed till beginning of March.
9 Jan, 2010
~ we have 4 robins at the moment and although they have little altercations when they fly up together, it never gets nasty~maybe they are all okay for food at the moment?~also have at least a family of four blackbirds who seem to be okay together~the ones who do get nasty are the starlings with each other~
9 Jan, 2010
Arlene you are right on that the starlings fall out with each other over nothing, think they like falling out :o)))

Great news Clarice. It will probably become quite tame once it starts feeding regularly. We have a pair that are not frightened when we go out into the garden, and they fly from place to place to take a look at us!
Hope you are keeping warm and comfy.
Love from us both.
Grenville and Alan.

Thanks Granville and Alan, Hope it does, got a window feeder quite a few months ago so hoping thet it will come closer and use it, the tamest bird in my garden is Mrs Blackbird and i can walk right up to her If i walk slow and she never moves but if i move quick she is off, trying to keep warm hope you two are keeping well, keep drinking plenty of hot tea and cupper soups inbetween meals, we all will be putting weight on if this carries on,but we do need to keep warm, take care both of you xx

Wonderful, its always a pleasure to have a friendly robin visiting, I feel its a great privilege.
9 Jan, 2010
Mine behaves like Louise's. He chases any other robins away at once!
Nothing I can do to stop him - he's a real little bully!
9 Jan, 2010
Lovely photo`s Clarice.......
9 Jan, 2010
Nice pictures Carol, mine are quite bold will chase away Blue Tits and Dunnocks.!
9 Jan, 2010
so glad you have a little robin carol, they are lovely to watch and he may come right up to you if you keep feeding and talking to him, mine comes to patio doors now to let me know he is there :o)
9 Jan, 2010
Sandra i've got that window feeder on my patio windows so he may just use it one day.
9 Jan, 2010
Lovely photos Clarice. The Robin seems to have adopted you, so it seems a shame not to give the little birdie a name. :0)
9 Jan, 2010
Loobee had a pied wagtail that started to come last week she was a little girl was going to give her a name but then she as'nt been back, so i'm not going to temp fate for a while....
9 Jan, 2010
Lovely Robin pics Carol my little chap flies up to the windowsill the minute I walk into the kitchen to let me know he's ready for more food! there are three here and they do tend to chase each other off til they've had there fill !
9 Jan, 2010
Bless them.....
9 Jan, 2010
I reckon your robin will keep coming back now he knows where he can get a full English for nothing.
9 Jan, 2010
:o))) Unless the seaguls dont get there first, think have to stop putting swiss rolls out then the seaguls may keep away (i hope)
9 Jan, 2010
Your supposed to cut the swiss rolls up Clarice.
9 Jan, 2010
I do but they still come and took them this morning, had a feeling they would land in garden as they have been flying really low for last 2 days. Suppose there just as hungary as all the other birds.
9 Jan, 2010
My Mr blackbird is very naughty, and chases the poor robin. It has now decided to give up on the food on the ground, and flutters rapidly on the seed feeder,so he is at least getting something.I was out in my dressing gown and wellies ..not a pretty sight, but very co-ordinated,as both are red lol.I have been putting lard and porridge cake under patio table,as no snow there,so they aren't having to dig for it anymore.I am like a detective, and looking for little
footprints leading up to it...Yep,they soon found it.:o)) Problem solved....

Clarice..... it's strange you should mention keeping warm with hot soup on these cold winter days. We made some thick homemade winter veg soup to last for several days, and we blended it after cooking, and we have just had a steaming hot bowl with a dash of fresh cream, black pepper on top, and a large chunk of walnut bread- yummy. A real winter warmer!!!!!!.
We will both look like the Mitchelin men in a few days if we go on like this.
Put us outside, let go, and we will take off like hot air balloons!!
Love,
Grenville and Alan xxx
9 Jan, 2010
That will make three of us as i've just got myself a hot cup of soup.
9 Jan, 2010
I have one robin that visits and a very bossy blackbird but he does not win all the time ,as while he is busy being bossy some of the other bird manage to feed. While I dont have seagulls Clarice I have a jackdaw that takes a bird cake for himself.
9 Jan, 2010
hope he does use your new window feeder, that would be great carol
9 Jan, 2010
They soon get to know who feeds them......i have a Thrush and Blackbird that come right up to the patio door and wait 4 me to come out and feed them........
9 Jan, 2010
My robin is like yours, Clarice, rather timid and shy. The bossy pied wagtail chases everything off except my Freaky and Hoppity :)
9 Jan, 2010

12 Jan, 2010
He's lovely Clarice, and great pics of him, my one hasn't been around for a day or two.....but so many Blackbirds and they are getting as bad as the Starlings for being bossy....:o)
13 Jan, 2010
Nice to see a robin in the garden Carol. I don't usually find them timid but maybe some are. I'm glad he's coming for food.
14 Jan, 2010
as a kid we had a tree that sort of hugged the kitchen window
there was nothing to see out there any way.
one winter we saw a small sparrow perched in the light of the window and enjoying the escaping heat from our coal fire as it burned the last of the daily dinner and heating for the house.
it stayed there in full view of the family and was not scared even if we were just a foot or so away on the other side of the window.
it was a regular visitor all winter

He looks very "at home" and obviously enjoying the home made fat cakes you made for him.
A question for you: Carol say's that seeing a robin in your garden is a sign of snow ahead! Has anyone else heard this before? I ask because we have three this morning and I'm wondering whether we need to prepare for another ice age?
