I think pets get more clingy when they aren't feeling quite so well.
Since Conker had his cancer he has become a real lap-dog, and cuddly, whereas before he was more independent...

Reassuring that Smokey is staying close to you, Carol.
He knows that you always do the very best for him. xxx

I pressed like this blog when I dont like your news. As with humans appetite is a good indication of how well they are feeling and how the disease is being controlled so while the quality is there take comfort from that and fingers crossed the vet can help you both. Thinking of you both xx

Poor Smokey, that is so sad for both of you. I hope the vet can keep him painfree and comfortable for the rest of his time with you and that your time together can be full and happy. I know I will have to face this with Misty some time as she is already well over eighteen and has slowed right down.

I am sorry to hear about Smokey, I hope the treatment helps him for the time being Clarice. Our pets do become more clingy when they are poorly, don't they? Looking for support and comfort. Take care, x x

Oh Clarice, I'm really sorry to hear about Smokey. It is so painful for us when our furry friends are about to leave us, so spend as much loving quality time as you can with him - he knows you love him and that you will make his last few moments as serene as possible.

~ Hi there Carol~ sorry to hear about Smokey~ maybe if you give him high protein food like scrambled egg or chicken he will get more nutritional value frm it~did this when my boxer had liver cancer~ as long as he has an appettite that is good news!

You are are wonderful owner for him...
It might help you to know that Conker was on Prednisolone tablets for the first few weeks of his cancer treatment last June, and they suited him well.

Thanks Arlene i've got him chicken for a while to help with his kidney failure, he can have tuna aswell but he does'nt like it, thanks TT hope they suit Smokey aswell, i' ll keep you up to date each time i go to vets, will be there again next Tuesday morning.

Conker goes for check-up to vet clinic on Tuesday so I'll look for your update when I get home. xxx

Been off line for a couple of days and just been catching up so have just read this blog - wanted to let you know I am thinking of you and smokey. x

Thankyou everyone, i feel so sorry for him as its two big killers, kept thinking he was doing really well with kidney failure that he's had to cope with, as he 's been backwards and forwards to that vet for last 20mths having injections every few weeks, and now on top of that he as to fight cancer aswell.

He has been very strong ...the body can only take so much and then it can no longer ward off the cancer virus. He is a beautiful fellow Clarice..hugs for both of you...~Caroline

Yes i think its kicking in now, plus the injection for his kidneys he had on Monday while be working as well, as usually that one always seems to give him a new lease of life.

Good to read that Smokey is perkier today.
When Conker had the prednisolone tablets from the vet clinic last June, I was told that they might make him more thirsty, just for a while... Were you told the same for Smokey ?

No but on saying that he drinks alot with his kidney going,i have a big dog dish for his water. TT i've had a mp of Dawn she was saying she had' nt been on goy for a couple of days as her cat Jess as died of kidney failure aswell, sent her an mp back, she was saying Jess was 17yrs aswell, you know i just dont know how on earth Smokey is copping with his kidneys and cancer.

That's very sad about Jess.....
Yes, Smokey is already drinking more than usual with the kidney problem...
He is coping very well... and so are you. xxx

I've just been reading Smokey's vet report from today, Clarice.
It's good that Smokey will now take a reduced dosage of Prednisolone... that should mean he'll be a little less thirsty...

Good news too on his weight, and that your appointment is 3 weeks away.

The treatment and care you are giving Smokey is helping him a lot, so although, as the vet says, it is a matter of time, I hope he enjoys more comfortable happy days with you. xxx

hi carol im just back and catching up, so sad to hear about smokey, i know how that one feels (bowel cancer) poor kitty, hope he doesnt have any pain carol, depends on where tumor is located, mine was blocking the way and like smokey food went right through but i had pain so bad with mine, i do hope the vet keeps him comfortable, give him a hug from me plez, will be thinking of you both :o) xx

Thanks to everyone for those kind words for Smokey, and yes both Smokey and Conker did well at vet check-up, hi Sandra so pleased that you are back and hope you enjoyed your holiday, as for poor old Smokey, feel quite sorry for him, as he as coped with his kidneys going for approx 21mths then now on top of that he as cancer, he does seem alot brighter this last couple of days, and he is still eating well, so that will help keep him going abit, he's always liked attention, but this last 2-3wks he needs even more, sometimes i nearly fall over him, like if i'm at the sink or something he keeps laying right at my feet and i've learnt to look at my feet before i move now.

I'm not surprised he wants lots of cuddles from his Mum who is so very kind and caring to him.. Yes, great that both our pets had good reports at the vet yesterday.

When pets are unwell it is a continuous roller-coaster ride of highs and lows...
Those feelings are quite natural, so don't worry too much that you are optimistic one minute and then down to earth the next...

I've been feeling like that...up, and then down, and then up... since Conker first became ill in April 09....
I wish Smokey lots more happy days with his Mum...

Thanks both of you will let you know, at the moment he as gone of steamed chicken he wont eat tuna, so got him some whiting fish yesterday, eating that at moment but know he will go of that in a few days time, he had a really bad day on Saturday as he lost quite a bit of blood, but as picked up abit this last couple of days,i was telling Sandra (sanbaz) he is only suppose to eat chicken and tuna but both are out at this time as does'nt like tuna and gone of chicken, and if not eating he will go down quicker, best bit is i've got 17 cans of cat meat in cupboard that i know he would eat, now if it where the same cat meat in a packets he wont touch them either, think its because the meat in the pkts are very tiny bits of meat, i know cat meat at moment not good for him, but neither is not eating no good for him. So will just have to try finding something else he will eat, cats not like dogs as its easier getting dogs to eat other things where as a cat wont.

may be its the medication-- sometimes it affects us and makes things taste funny could Smokey have scrambled egg thats easy to eat

Carol..give him the cat meat if he won't eat anything else..like you say..it is better to have something than nothing. ((hugs))..have you and Smokey in my heart,,xx ~Cat
