We do our best to make sure that there is plenty of food always in the feeders and on the ground - we have a robin that is a little terror to the other birds but they do creep in behind him when he is not looking ! Love watching them first thing in the morning when they are busy getting their breakfasts. xx

During this freezing weather, I've been extra vigilant to keep the bird baths free of ice. Lovely to watch our feathered friends :o) xxx

Lovely :) I seem to have lots of blackbirds at the moment but not too many others...

15 Dec, 2012

Thanks Gem ...
In my garden, the blackbirds are keen to find the berries.
I've seen quite a lot of sparrows and starlings too :o)

15 Dec, 2012

Lovely pic TT...

15 Dec, 2012

Some of the blackbirds will have come from the east and Scandinavia, Geranium, according to Derwent Mays Times book 'Nature Notes' for mid to late November, to find food and escape the cold. They tend to be mainly female. There are a lot this year, 8 at one time, feeding on a glut of red apples. They love them and socialise more than our resident blackbirds. Lovely composed picture TT....genius!

Thanks Holly and Dorjac ...
Interesting about the female blackbirds ...
... lately the blackbirds in my garden are all males !

15 Dec, 2012

Yes that is interesting, I'm getting quite a few turning up in a group, but like Terra's these are mostly males too!

15 Dec, 2012

Let's hope that by spring time, these males and females work out how to get together ;o)

... In winter, I'm lucky to see lots of garden birds. :o)

20 Dec, 2012

:o)))
I was sweeping leaves yesterday and the robin sat in the tree, and sang pretty songs for me all day .

22 Dec, 2012

The birds are very interesting during severe winter weather TT. This is when the unusual ones/numbers come visiting. The blackbirds...about half of them female are about 7-8 at any one time. There is a grey headed bird with thrush marks half way down its chest then white, a grey back and light brown wings. Nearest I can get is a fieldfare. It loves apples and was very bullied when the snow was falling. The blackies had some great fun with out of date sausages too. Such a pretty song by the Robin to help you with the leaves too.

Hi Dorjac..
yes, I find garden birds especially interesting in winter.
Another bird with some thrush markings is the redwing on my next pic ..

There seem to be several birds with that type of chest markings.

I love hearing the robin sing. He has sung for me every day, all winter, whatever the weather. :o)
