The River, The Railway, and Trees ....

On our way back from the village, we’ll go along the river bank.

We can see the old road bridge over the river …

… but we’ll go along the river-side walkway. They’ve made it into a nice path.

The Blackthorn – Prunus spinosa – was out all along the way. It was like walking through a tunnel of it sometimes …

… and there are seats along the path for when you need a rest :o)

Here are some views of the river ….

It’s banks are well lined with trees,
And I like to notice all the different textures of their barks

More river views ….

Many of the trees have ivy climbing up them, and it’s stems can be very thick ….

Yet more river views :o)

I heard a raspy chirping sound coming from up in one of the trees.
Guess what it was …

Can you see ?

It’s Sammy Squirrel :o)
…. Or Susy Squirrel :o)
I don’t know which lol

.

A railway goes alongside the river. – It was reopened a few years ago, to take a train carrying coal from some open cast mines up in the hills.

Here’s the village signalbox …

There are two level crossings in the village.
This is the Cawdor crossing,

And here is one of the trains passing over it ….
I can hear them tooting when I’m in the garden lol

It’s the ‘up’ train, so it’s empty ….

It trundles it’s way along …. slowly …. holding everyone up lol ….

Now we must leave the riverside walk, and make our way back up to the road,
and here’s a last view of Tricarn taken from there, before we reach the house :o)

Well I hope you’re not all out of puff lol, and that you enjoyed our walk up to the village and back ….

What a heavenly place to live in and to grow up in. I noticed the swing hanging from a tree branch which I would have been party to putting up when i was young and now I can see why the adults thought it was dangerous.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad you all enjoyed the walk :o)

Thanks Stickitoffee - it was with your help I was able to resize the views :o)
There's a cafe in the village ... but I never go in there. I suppose it's too near home.

Scotsgran - I grew up in a village about 7 miles from here, and we had a similar rope on a tree over the canal lol. I remember one boy falling in once, when the rope came loose. Then the grown-ups took it down .... but someone soon put it back again :o)

Rogi that house does look a bit near doesn't it lol I wouldn't like to live there. There are several big new houses along there.

Very pretty way to walk, Hywel, I love to wander alongside waterways. You've taken some great photos too - your new camera is working well for you :)

That was a lovely walk Hywel....the trees on the riverbanks all look great. Why are there no litter tangled in among them? The trees along our neglected part of the river always seem to capture any litter travelling downstream.
I throughly enjoyed my walk with you :)
I must do similar with our little riverwalk one day - but I'll wait till the water is a bit higher to hide the litter :)

Pam thanks for nominating ;o)

Poppylinda I will put some more photos of the trees in summer, but you won't be able to see so much of the river then :o)

Gee I'm getting more used to the camera now, but still have a long way to go before I'm an expert lol

Scottish there is plenty of litter everywhere here but I didn't show the photos comtaining it. I'll put one on for you to see ....

Neellan I'm glad you didn't get puffed. I did lol :o)

Mmm - that was a lovely walk Hywel. Reminded me of mine and Partner's stroll by the Taff through Sofia Gardens over Christmas - but we didn't have the lovely Blackthorn blossom then. Thanks for the lovely photos. :o)

Hello Hywel ...
Wonderful scenic set of pics. :o)

15 Apr, 2012

I just love all of your walks Hywel and this is another lovely one. I felt like I was walking there too. I left a message on your last walk blog as well. I'm normally still working outside ( 7.30pm) but its so cold outside at the moment. I hope its going to warm up again soon. My veronicas are doing really well, inspite of this cold spell. I haven't put them in the garden yet, but left them in their pots outside.

Such a delight to walk that walk, love to see the water, and hear the toot of the train in the distance, you are lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world.

Beautiful walk Hywel, just loved it and I too thought of the Railway children, it also makes me cry too! The size of those ivy stems are incredible aren't they? Just shows what a tought plant it is. Thanks Hywel.

Another great walk, Hywel! Glad you were able to sort out your problems with the resizing issue you had! I saw your blog only a few minutes ago.

Unless you are going to save the photos for printing there is little point in taking big files as the difference isn't appreciable on the computer. The files just take up that more space on your computer's hard drive.
