Swan Jardiniere

I am a swan, and you should know
I hold the plants you like to grow.
Displayed so well upon my back,
Aesthetic looks they do not lack.
Calathea colours nice and bright
Look perfect in the summer light.
While cactus flowers are just right
To brighten up a winter’s night.
For many years I hid away,
And didn’t see the light of day -
I lived inside a wardrobe dark,
I thought it was like Noah’s Ark !
And gardening people there were none :o(
Without them there was just no fun :o(
But one bright day I was whisked away,
To a nice new home where I hope to stay
A gardening man has taken me
To live where I just love to be,
And plants can grow upon my back
Although my side has got a crack ! :o)
.
This is the story of the ceramic swan I found in the back of my Grandmother’s wardrobe, many years ago.
I don’t know why she put it there,
and I don’t know how it ended up with me, because I have a bird phobia !

Great verse Hywel. The Swan looks good in all its finery through out the year

I'm glad your phobia does not extend to the swan. It looks good with each of the plants on board. Its a beautiful container and your gorgeous plants all look just right.

Thank you all :o)
Seaburngirl, there is nothing underneath it. I only remember it inside my Gran's wardrobe many years ago. My cousin and I used to sneak upstairs to see it. There were 2 china lions in there as well.

Lovely plants too. I like the top one best, its much better than mine.
My great uncle used to have two big swan pots in his garden and I thought it was a great treat to go and look at them!

Super blog Hywel I love your Swan pot and your poem, your plants all look so right sailing along keeping him company after his long lonely time in the Noahs Ark wardrobe......he has found his true home :o)

Its amazing the treasures people have hidden away in
their houses. I enjoy this aspect of the antiques programmes rather than the money angle.

Brilliant blog Hywel and I love your swan too, she looks perfect with each plant, so elegant, even with a crack! Great rhyme too, good old grandma for hiding her or it may have not survived.

That looks like a happy swan Hywel. Great blog. :0)

I love swans Hywel and think its a rather nice that you have your grandma's planter, it makes it extra special knowing where it came from even though she kept it in the cupboard, I treasure things like that more than anything I could buy today and no matter what the cost.
It does look good planted up and I really like the poem...

Thank you all for your comments :o)
Klahanie I didn't think I had any talents ! You have boosted my confidence :o))
Thank you Linda :o)
Sue I am like you too, I think there's character in something like this, and it has meaning.

Yes thats right, I have a little pot that my nanna gave to me when I was only about 8yrs old, somebody had brought it back from a holiday in Devon as a gift for her and she gave it to me, has pictures of violets on it and as a child I used to pick some violets for her that grew in the ditches on the way to her house, it would be considered tat to some folk but to me its priceless, bit like my mums Toby Jugs that are still stored in my loft awaiting a special shelf or cabinet to display them...

Hi Hywel What a wonderful blog i loved it :0)
12 Jan, 2014
Hi Hywel you have a truck load of talents !
Most men just know about engines and football.
13 Jan, 2014
That's lovely about the little pot Sue (LL) Many would have thrown it out when they were 'decluttering' . It's nice you still have your mam's tobyjugs too. I know we can't keep everything (and wouldn't want to anyway) but I find people today are flat and boring. They don't have any sense of 'belonging' or excitement in their lives ... just naff things like parties, holidays and moaning about how hard put on they are (and that goes for old people as well as youngsters) Their houses are like empty boxes, and so are their gardens ... and brains as well if you ask me !! I'm never going to 'declutter', because everything I've got is not 'clutter' to me.
Well that's enough preaching lol :D
Thank you Cmsue :o))
lol thank you Diane :o))
It comes from being with negative people all my life ...
13 Jan, 2014
We are all supposed to be the product of our experiences and I do not see you as negative at all Hywel. You are well educated, you must have had stimulation from somewhere to bring you to wanting that. You have never stopped being amazed by the small miracles many never see and which you share with us on goy, a flower, a butterfly, a view. If that is all reaction to those negative people you are truly blessed. You are kind and caring as we see as you pass on that joy to us. Cats know when they are on to a good thing and when we see your pets it sends out a strong message about the kind of person you are. In my opinion your blogs help us all to see the best of the world we live in.
13 Jan, 2014
So amongst all your talents Hywel, you are a poet as well ! I loved it and I love the swan ! I think I mentioned this before though ! lol
13 Jan, 2014
Thank you both ...
I come over very differently in siberland, to what I really am. I am very unconfident and anxious. If you met me I probably wouldn't say two words. It comes from being with negative critical people all my life ... and having snobbish arrogant relations :o(((
13 Jan, 2014
I'm glad you are a goy member then because being with people who respect you is good for you. Take a good look at those arrogant snobby relations they really are pretty pathetic. I wonder why. They are the ones who lose out.
13 Jan, 2014
Thank you Scotsgran. I think they're ashamed of who they really are, and have to put on heirs and graces, to pretend they're someone well to do. They looked down on us because we didn't live in a posh place, and we spoke Welsh, which many people still think is beneath them ... lol yes pathetic is the word for them :o)
I never see them these days, and many have died anyway.
It's nice to be with friends :o)
14 Jan, 2014
Hywel, I have a rule - I always try to look for the good in people - its good for me too.
15 Jan, 2014
I try also, ... but when they bully you and abuse and frighten you, and insult you, it is difficult to do anything but hate them.
I have forgiven them, but I still hate them and I am glad those times have passed :o)
I don't dwell on it. I have moved on now. I don't think of it any more, except when other people remind me.
15 Jan, 2014
Well Hywel, your Goy family is never going to do any of those horrible things.
Your cat loves you, and they are probably a better judge of people than other people are!
I don't de clutter either - there would be more room in the cupoards if I could do it but it seems impossible - everything has its associations with times or people. There's the vase I put nasturtiums in and the one for violets, way back as far as I can remember - everything means something to me.
15 Jan, 2014
Steragram I've got clothes from the 1960s and 70s lol , as well as other things ... and as you say they all have associations and memories. They are not in anyone's way so I'm keeping them :o)
15 Jan, 2014
If you try those clowthes on Hywel you'll have to grow your hair to go with them. I haven't got my 60s clothes - glas really as they woudl be much to tight...
15 Jan, 2014
My hair is not short, ... but the clothes are too small ! :o)
16 Jan, 2014
lol!
16 Jan, 2014
;o)

Fantastic blog on your swan, Hywel! I remember seeing it other times, especially the photo with the Christmas Cactus in it! I also liked many of the photos of other plants in it. :-))

this a really pretty container Hywel. I like the browny colours instead of it being white. are their any marks on the base to give you more information of its origins.
