Before and after

The garden next door to mine is lower down because we live on a hill,
and even though there are 6 ft fences along the boundary, they don’t seem very high when you’re in my garden, and I felt as if my neighbours thought I was looking at them all the time (although they hardly ever come outside)
so I decided to have some trellises put there.

This is how it was before :-

The green fences in the last photo are 6 ft high, but because we are on a hill they are lower down than my garden you can see over the tops of them, and into the garden next door.

.

This is how it looks now :o)

If you notice the houses in the last photo you can see the next pair of semis is lower down than my house.

The trellises are 4 feet high so they are not overpowering, and I still have a lovely view over the tops of them :o)

I hope you think it’s an improvement.

Wow what a lovely transformation Hywel it looks wonderful makes the planting stand out lovely now its great you have nt lost your view . I can see you ve been busy and been absent .

You have been busy! That's the same kind of trellis I have between my neighbours garden and mine. I find it gives you the privacy without being as harsh as a full fence. Will you grow things along it Hywel?

They look really good and set off those plants (especially the rose) realy well. It's good they don't disturb that wonderful view either. they certainly do enhance your garden.

Hello Hywel the fencing looks very good and as usual your garden is beautiful.

11 Jun, 2018

Hywel, I love the new trellis, much easier on the eye than the big square stuff we have atop our fence!

11 Jun, 2018

Looks good Hywel, as already said your planting stands out more now, I am pleased you still have your lovely view..

11 Jun, 2018

Think your trellis looks very decorative, are you intending to paint it to preserve the wood?

11 Jun, 2018

Thank you all for reading about my trellises.

I am going to train some plants on them, some climbing roses and Clematises I think ... that means a trip to the garden centre :)))

I don't think I'll paint them. It will take ages, and I'll have to keep repainting them which will be difficult when there are plants on them.
They are impregnated with a preservative so they won't rot, and I'm hoping they will weather nicely in time.

It will look lovely with rises and clematis Hywel climbing up them I would leave them natural too as the acid rain only strips it off in patches then looks horrible.

11 Jun, 2018

Yes, I really like the new trellis and it has fitted in so well. All your plants look lovely against it, a very pretty garden.

11 Jun, 2018

Its great Hywel and will be fantastic when you get some more roses on it. The first thing I looked for was whether you'd obscured the view - good to see youhaven't! The diamond mesh is much nicer than the square ones.

11 Jun, 2018

Very nice indeed. Your garden and your neighbours will look bigger now that you can grow plants on the trellis.

12 Jun, 2018

That was a big job but well worth it.

12 Jun, 2018

Very smart, Hywel, and the climbing rose adds to it.

12 Jun, 2018

I like your trellis Hywel and the colour.

12 Jun, 2018

I'm in agreement as regards the staining/painting Hywel, all mine are treated when they first go up and then they are left alone, the way I see it I'm a gardener not a painter, plus I like the natural weathered look, I prefer my trees, shrubs and plants to provide my colour, might have felt differently I s'pose if it was a smaller garden but there is far too much Hywel and I simply do not have the patience or energy, LOL, I do admire it others...

Looks wonderful Hywel and they look very sturdy too. I'm impressed! My old trellis on a raised bed is falling apart so you might just have spurred me on to do something about it before it falls down.

12 Jun, 2018

Hi Hywel, nice to see you :-)
Very smart! It's made such a difference plus you have extra climbing support for your plants now.

12 Jun, 2018

It does look very smart Hywel, with a clean finished edge and the lattice look is very pretty...:))

12 Jun, 2018

Thanks for all your comments :)

12 Jun, 2018

Looks good Hywel. I did this to my back fence and when the plants grew it disappeared and weathered well.

13 Jun, 2018

Thank you :)

13 Jun, 2018

You've done a very good job there, Hywel! The lattice look does more to favour the garden than the traditional diamond shape of most trellis panels. ??

13 Jun, 2018

Very nice fencing, Hywel, you must be pleased with it & it will look even nicer when you have more plants on it. I hope your neighbours are pleased. Have they commented on it? Did they feel they were being overlooked?

13 Jun, 2018

Thank you both !
I had someone to do the work for me :)

My neighbours hardly ever open their back door Feverfew so I don't know if they've seen the trellises. They never mentioned anything about being overlooked. I hardly ever see them.

14 Jun, 2018

That looks really good! Plus side as well, it gives you more room as such to grow things up ?.

14 Jun, 2018

Your neighbour's sound odd people to me, never going out into their garden, but some folk are like that. At least they aren't a nuisance to you.

14 Jun, 2018

Thanks Jen, yes I'll have to buy things to grow up it now :)

They are in their 30s Feverfew, but odd as you say.

I have a new Council tenant downstairs like that Hywel.
Best ignored. I was really angry because she told the Council she has NVQ Gardening and Forestry. It was lies
to get a council flat. The Estate Manager brought her to
introduce to me, I believed her. When she got the flat
she talked about 'Getting the garden sorted.' Then the
boyfriend/child's father borrowed a rotovator to clear the back garden, and got someone else with a strimmer to do the front. Terrible mess.

I did the front for 6 years when the other lot were in there. Voluntarily. Disabled now.
Grew flowers and planted out the front. People used to stand and look at it.

They all say they want a flat with a garden as they dont want to be put in a block. Then they stay indoors like Hywel's tenants.
Gardeners are really marvellous people !!!
I appreciate them more and more as the years go by.

My Lancashire grandma used to say "There's nowt so queer as folk. They're all queer except thee and me and th'art a bit queer sometimes..."

15 Jun, 2018

Good to look at Hywel, a job well done.

15 Jun, 2018

Pity about that garden Diane. Unfortunately some people just don't appreciate them.

Lovely accent Sue :)

Thank you Stroller :)

What a brilliant idea, Hywel, and very well done. Looks very neat and so much climbing plant space.

17 Jun, 2018

Looks very attractive Hywel and it's kind that you thought of your neighbours even if they are a reclusive pair !

18 Jun, 2018

Thank you both :)

18 Jun, 2018

Oh that's very smart......a great improvement....

29 Jun, 2018
