Hi all……just thought I would tell you about our new resident…….Last year I bought a couple of really cheap roosting pods………Out of the 99p store….and it was buy one get one free. So when I say cheap….they really were This is one
This is in the middle of my Ceanothus, where I put it, which is about 10 feet from the back door. Well….this morning, I happened to notice that the little wren that sometimes calls around, was darting backwards and forwards and picking moss out of the lawn (which incidently needs treating)…..
Then I happened to notice she was up in the Ceanothus……and look……..
I am so pleased…..Especially as we can stand at the back door and see all that happens of the coming weeks…….Little Jenny Wren is setting up home in my garden……Nice……..

Brilliant that you managed photos too. Did you have to get very close?

Lovely blog. its the male that makes the nest by the way. they often make 5 or 6 and then invite the female to select her favourite. He will then fine line it so it is really snug for her. Now that is really showing off to the mrs. I'm still waiting for my hubby to sort just the one home :o)

Thankyou all so much I am really excited. I seem to be able to get quite close to take pics, well about 5 feet away.(not a lot else got done today ooops) I do hope that when mr wren starts to show off the accomodation the girlfriend pics this one......just have to wait and see. It seems as if he was taking bits in there all morning, but then disappeared this afternoon, probably working on another from what Seaburn says....lets just hope she pics this "des rez".......

What a lovely thing to happen, I wish i could get as good photos as yours but i will have to wait until i can afford a better camera.GoYers are totally nuts about plants and wildlife but we are also i think people who take ridiculous numbers of photos. I took 94 yesterday and i did not even go anywhere and i only have a small garden! My we're a nutty bunch but we're happy. I love this blog, thanks.
19 Mar, 2010
How lucky to have the nest so close they are lovely little birds, lets hope they choose your nest as home.
19 Mar, 2010
I do hope so.....There were 2 of them flitting about this morning, so hopefully the mrs. will approve of his workmanship..........and Lemondog......I took loads yesterday just to get a few good pics. Your right...nutty but happy....
19 Mar, 2010
I much prefer to think we are happy with our lot, you`re only considered nuts if one is royal by birth and talks to ones plants, something of which I also do so I`m on Charles side ..........
19 Mar, 2010
I must admit to talking to plants and wildlife too, Lincslass. My friendly blackbird sat on my front fence this morning and I asked him how he was etc. The lady passing on the other side of the road looked across and then scurried quickly away :)
19 Mar, 2010
On the radio today they were saying wrens had had a very hard winter and that as many as 95% might have died! So your wren is really very special, if that's the case. Let's hope s/he breeds well and produces lots of replacement wrens for all the ones that didn't make it!
19 Mar, 2010
you do realise that you are going to have to keep us posted on mum's progress throughout the summer. best wishes to jenny!
19 Mar, 2010
Yep, looking forward to regular progress reports - what a delight! My pound shop didn't/doesn't have anything like that...
19 Mar, 2010

We have had 2 nest boxes in our garden for the last 3/4 years the've been investigated a couple of times but no one has taken up ressidence yet. Were thinking of putting a for sale sign up!!
23 Mar, 2010
Thanks all ...and get that camera out Great you need to play with it to learn how it works .....Lol
23 Mar, 2010
What does the housework matter when you have a miracle in your garden? I would much rather sit in the rain and wait camera in hand if a bird was to choose our garden to bring a new family up in. Congratulations on the foresight to take advantage of the little "house" when you saw it in the £ shop and of course the ideal siting of it. I will be waiting with all my GOY friends for the first twitters of the babies.Love Sue xx
