3 Apr, 2013

3 Apr, 2013
:)
not for years
3 Apr, 2013
only been skating once!!
3 Apr, 2013
as a Canadian I think it's mandatory :)
just joking...that's what we did as kids in the winter time...almost everyone had ice rinks in the backyard. We would be on the ice for hours on end, only going inside to get 'dry' clothing & right back out again till it was dark.
No such thing as video games back then. First video game I ever owned wasn't till I was around 19-20...remember Atari? We played a game called 'Pong' on it.
3 Apr, 2013
Ah yes! I remember that one! no tv till i was 14 either but no ice either :-(
3 Apr, 2013
Fantastic capture, poor brave little bloom....
3 Apr, 2013
What a beautiful coloured crocus. We still have a little snow in the back garden but most of it has melted today although the wind has been extremely cold. I did go out and empty one or two of the pots that were cracked, and did a bit of tidying round the garden. Bought some wallflowers, violas and a Fatsia.
3 Apr, 2013
thanks DD ~ i like that title ~ brave little bloom
thanks linda, i like that colour too; i have a fatsia ~ it has survived the winter but the fatshedera is not so happy ~ its lost all its leaves :-(((
there is still 3 inches on that side of the garden but its beginning to go.
3 Apr, 2013
Wow, stunning Sticki! Fabulous dark colour...just beautiful
3 Apr, 2013
thanks janey, i went to look at it today but it didnt open as wide ~ not as sunny maybe?
3 Apr, 2013
Oh! no TV...we had one but weren't allowed to watch it much! Dad would only let us watch Charlie Brown specials (he loved Snoopy). After he left (when I was about 10) then I could watch it whenever I wanted to :)
5 Apr, 2013
nope no tv! and only got one then cos someone gave a broken one to my brother and he mended it! but very strict about what we could watch, mainly news i think and probably upstairs downstairs!
5 Apr, 2013
they knew what they were doing!
2 of my 3 kids hardly ever watch it now
7 Apr, 2013
Triumph over adversity !! Brilliant photo Sticki...;)
7 Apr, 2013
I don't watch much either floralhead!
Thanks BB, that would be a good name for this crocus!
7 Apr, 2013
Aye...it would...;)

What a lush satiny purple.
Beautiful!
8 Apr, 2013
Thanks mouldy! That sounds almost like the beginning of a poem!
8 Apr, 2013
do you still have snow?
9 Apr, 2013
It finally disappeared yesterday floralhead!
9 Apr, 2013
great!...we're supposed to get some Friday, I hope they're wrong about it :)
10 Apr, 2013
i hope so too ~ April is far too late for snow!!!
[there is still snow further up the hill in the shade! possibly where it drifted?]
10 Apr, 2013
or where the sun doesn't shine all day? My yard is like that, the left side always seems to be the last place the snow melts
10 Apr, 2013
it was interesting watching the pattern of where the snow melted first ~ i took several photos ~ it wasnt always what i expected but now i know the sunniest parts of the garden!
10 Apr, 2013
April is not unheard of for having snowfall here, actually I think it's 'normal' for here
here's some facts!
When Windsor Has Its First & Last Snowfalls
The first snowfall of winter for Windsor often arrives in November, but can show up as early as October.
The season's last snowfall typically happens in March or April, although a late snow can land in May.
Windsor is normally free of snow every year from June to September.

Poetry?
Heaven forfend! :-D
It snowed here this morning, still, we are on the same latitude as Moscow, believe it or not!
10 Apr, 2013
i hadnt realised quite how long you get snow for ~ looks like we are getting a similar pattern! lets hope they sort out a bit more grit and gritters for the roads!!
not a poet mouldy? im sure you could turn your hand to writing poems if you wanted!
10 Apr, 2013
Well, there's no word in the English language that rhymes with purple, so that rules me out.
Someone once used 'burple', would you believe? Lol.
12 Apr, 2013
i quite like that word ~ bit like a blank tile in scramble ~ insert your own meaning!
sounds like something Roald Dahl or the BFG would use?
found this:
'hurple rhymes with purple
curple rhymes with purple
hurple is a scottish word.
still used in scotland.
it means to hobble.
or walk with a limp.
curple is a strap under the girth
of a horses saddle
to stop the saddle kicking forward'
12 Apr, 2013
The lady's a poet
and didn't know it!
Hurple? Scottish?
Probably some author trying to sneak a new word in.
Shakespeare & Chaucer did a lot of that, as I recall. Lol.
14 Apr, 2013
Could well be! I found it on google somewhere! Probably only useful to struggling poets and scrabble addicts!
14 Apr, 2013
Curple? I only know of a crupper, which fits around the top of the horse's tail and fixes to the back of the saddle. Wherever is the other end of the curple??
14 Apr, 2013
sorry melchi i have no idea ~ i dont know anything about horses!
oh ............. google/wiktionary says its a corruption of the word 'crupper'
14 Apr, 2013
What's a crupper?
Anyone got a feeling where this is heading? ;-)
15 Apr, 2013
where its heading? round in circles i think!!
"curple is a strap under the girth
of a horses saddle
to stop the saddle kicking forward"
but i had never heard of it before!
or are we heading for a limerick or poem?
15 Apr, 2013
A crupper is a leather loop which slips under the horse's tail (not as painful as it sounds, judging by the horse's reaction!). It is buckled to metal loops at the back of the saddle. The description of the curple sounds eye-watering to me, because if it fits around the girth, it comes from under the horse's middle! I suppose it might be fixed to the girth where it is buckled to the saddle, near the top of the stirrup leather, but it sounds very strange to me. ("Stop me if I'm getting too technical..."!) Oh dear - I really should get out more...
15 Apr, 2013
sounds as if it might take the poor horse's tail off if he gallops too fast?
15 Apr, 2013
Aren't some made of steel, though, Melchisdec?
15 Apr, 2013
probably on a roundabout horse!!!
15 Apr, 2013
Well if they are they are covered in leather! They sound like instruments of torture. (We are still talking about cruppers, I assume!)
15 Apr, 2013
Lol.
