old wood and sunrise

the old saying red sky at night shepherds delight and red sky in the morning shepherds warning is soo true. this is what i woke up to Monday morning….and yes it rained all day….
but this was last night….we now get the sunset over the fields and flood water. we will have to wait till the spring till it swings back to the sea.
and we had a stunning day today…
in-between we had windy horrible stuff as u can see from the sea on the photo bellow.
looks like we are going to have a good couple of days down here in Pembrokeshire at last. been outside most of the day which was so nice…..excitement this afternoon as we had some guys come to insulate the loft. we emptied it last night. while we were up there i thought id take some photos of out roof trusses. they are at least two hudred and fifty years old and some still have the bark on them.
i think the middle picture is the best as u can see the tool marks from the man who carved it all those years ago…..imagine the roof trusses on new houses lasting all that time…it is thought that the trusses would have been on a single story house in the begining and then as they added an upstairs they would have raised the roof…if only they could tell us the story….

thanks Spritz. i bet our houses would have some wicked tales.
the insulation is now ten inches deep so it should make a big difference to our energy bills.

Beautif photos of the sunset & sunrise. Your house sounds so lovely like old properties, bet it could tell a few stories about whats gone on over the years, since it was built.

Fascinating Sandra. In my old cottage you could see the original chimneys in the loft where the roof had been made higher. I love that sort of thing - it's the mystery I think :o)

lovely blog Sandra,
Your house must be very old
we too have been trying to isulate our bungalow this year with cavity wall insulation and some new double glazing. We should also re-line the attic but cant face moving every thing out to do it. Most of the attic is boarded so you can imagine the amount of "stuff" we have up there especially since Rachel came home to live with us again. One day......

we have a doorway which opens 'under' the lawn.....and a stone stairway in the basement which leads know where.....all confusing but interesting.

It's nice to have things like that in your house. Nothin in this house I have now but my previous one was built by my ancestors where there was once an old orchard. When thay dug the living room floor up to put a damp course it looked as if it had been built over an old stream.
Maybe there's a secret cellar under your house Sandra lol

when i walked in here seventeen years ago on a very cold windy day in november. it was the first time i had experienced horizontal rain, we couldnt see the view because of the mist, the windows were leeking and the house was in a terrible state...but i fell instantly in love with the place.....and its spirit..

I have no doubt you did...it sounds very precious... a home with a heart...

Absolutely, Sandra! We had a historical survey done on our house, and were told the same - that the roof had been raised, and that the house would have been thatched when it was built! If only houses could talk...
You'll be warmer this winter, I hope - and the bills should ba lower, as well! :-)))
Lovely sky photos. :-))
