Do you have sunshine today?

If not, I offer condolences, and also offer a few cheering photos for you as (small) consolation.

Quite pleased with this colourful border :)

It’s been thirsty weather for the birds, so they have to form a queue

Gaura lindheimeri

Jasmine ‘clotted cream’ has a subtle fragrance

Clematis ‘Sieboldii’

Corncockle (Agrostemma) – easy from seed

Grew this white Corncockle (Agrostemma ‘Ocean Pearl’) from seed, and am thrilled to see it in flower!

Glad you were awake enough to see this(!) . . . I thought last night’s Olympic opening ceremony was a triumph, and well worth staying up late for. Danny Boyle derserves to be richly rewarded.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Well - here the sun is in and out between the clouds. That'll do nicely! But your blog has certainly brought a bit more sun, Sheila! I love the border - it looks beautiful. We have lots of magpies here - they live in the wood on the school site. The first time I ever saw magpies close to was when my parents lived on the Yorkshire moors years ago. Now they are quite a common site in gardens. I know some people hate them, and I don't like the thought of them raiding other birds' nests, but they are very handsome.

I too thought the ceremony last night was breathtaking. What an experience it must have been to be in the stadium! I agree with you about Danny Boyle. I expect there's an honour there in the pipeline!

As it's already after noon and this is the first comment, perhaps everyone else is sleeping it off!

Good afternoon...No TV so I didn't see the ceremony, but it certainly seems to have been a hit with everyone. There was a Comments writer for one of the papers (forget who and which) on Radio4 this morning. He said he had written an article saying how bad it was...because he had to file copy before the event was complete. when he saw the full ceremony he loved it and was upset by his own article. Sums up reporters these days.

Garden looks beautiful as always, I love the border Sheila. Don't daisies do a wonderful job of knitting and pulling things together ? What are the blue flowers dancing above the pinks ?

Many thanks, Mel :))

Thanks Pimm's - and what a stupid journalist! When I was watching, I was imagining all the writers having to wait until after midnight before filing their copy . . . stressful, but possible. Doing what he did is almost unbelievable.

Anyhoo . . . the "daisies" are Osteospermums (are they in the daisy family perhaps?), and the blue flowers (I like "dancing") are Nigella love-in-the-mist.

Ah..I can see both of those now Sheila.....Nothing for it now, I am going to have to admit the sight is failing and book the eye test.

Going to watch the Ceremony now on iplayer.

What a lovely and colourful border Sheila. I like the pic's of the Clematis Sieboldii and that Jasmine Clotted Cream. How do they dream up the names? I'm thinking of sitting by your Jasmine with a plate of scones, strawberry jam, clotted cream and a cup of... decent Coffee!!! I hate tea :D
I thought the opening ceremony was something to be really proud of - and after what Pimp has said it just goes to show you really can't believe any thing in the papers...

Love that clotted cream! and your beautiful colourful border.
I rather enjoyed the opening of the Olympic games! Silly reporter. What an event to have to put together!!

Loved your pictures Sheila. Please to say I agree re comments about the ceremony - not usually my kind of thing but I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Lovely to see so much colour - I can only dream of sunshine I'm afraid. Heavy showers on and off today. I'm still playing catchup following the previous weeks of rain - weeds are incredible and plants are miserable!!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend :))

lovely photos.
Like everyone else I thoroughly enjoyed the Opening Ceremony ,I thought Beijing could not be bettered BUT Danny Boyle definitely did :-)

It was a great show.. The cauldron was stunning.
I'm not give much to politics but....At the beginning when the Children from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales were singing. I got all emotional when the Scottish kids sang Flower of Scotland...Made me think that I would miss Scotland not being part of the UK if they ever do vote to become independent. Daft really as they are not going anywhere.

28 Jul, 2012

We better not become independant P, I don't know anybody who will vote for it!....the school choir that sang Flower of Scotland were from near where I was brought up P.....one of the more deprived areas of Edinburgh (Broomhouse). Really nice for them all and up at the Castle too!

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR LOVELY COMMENTS!! (Next blog hopefully on the Suffolk coast . . . wonder if I'll meet Laversteve - remember him??). See you soon :)

28 Jul, 2012

What a beautiful border,Sheila..a splendid mingle:o) and love the 'Clotted cream' and the Corncockles..we have had a nice sunny day, with a couple of heavy showers, which were soon over ..but enough to give the plants a refresher :o)...I remember Laversteve :o)

28 Jul, 2012

The cauldron really was stunning wasn't it? I would LOVE a smaller version for the garden. Wonder how long before they start making knock offs :)
We've also gone through the whole independence issues here Ang and Pimp, with Quebec wanting to separate. What a mess!

28 Jul, 2012

Your garden is looking lovely Sheila, enjoy yourself wherever you're going....who's Laversteve?:-)

28 Jul, 2012

I thought all the kids did well Scottish and it was nice that they were small groups, so each child can see themselves in years to come...Nice memory to have.
Never know what to think about the independence issue, so complicated.

Not heard from Laversteve for ages. You should go see his photo's BA. You having a break Sheila?

28 Jul, 2012

I remember Laversteve's photo through a huge rock, which he said was at Kingswinland (something like that) and near Southwold. He said I'd love the coast walk, and then Grandmage said she liked Walberswick (nearby) so plenty of good reasons for going . . . yes, Pimm's, short break coming up!

28 Jul, 2012

Walberswick is beautiful. Charles Rennie Mackintosh spent some time there, and did a series of beautiful plant studies of local wildflowers.

28 Jul, 2012

I've just had a look at his pics, some beautiful ones there and fell in love with the baby seal:-)

28 Jul, 2012

Beautiful pics Sheila....love the Sieboldii and that pretty Jasmine, alls looking very pretty. We've enjoyed sun today too, but just the odd wispy cloud didn't half cool it down! Whatever happened to those showery July days when the rain was warm???

28 Jul, 2012

Thank you Lil, Ba and Janey . . . and that's nice to know Mel! Bye for now!

29 Jul, 2012

Your border picture is really beautiful - well done. I love Gaura lindheimeri and the C.Sieboldii is such a pretty one. I have Jasmine Clotted Cream growing over the fence from my neighbour's garden to mingle with C. Etoile Violette, but I didn't know that was its name until I read your blog.
