What's Going On?

There’s something happening – I’m not sure what, but I saw that collie from the farm take all the sheep out of the field this morning.

I wanted to go and help! They wouldn’t let me, though.

Then ‘he’ put ropes across the steps to the stream. That won’t stop me getting in!

Hold on – some people have just come, and they’re putting tables and chairs around – must go and see what’s happening in the garden room – there are ladies in there, and I can smell cake!

‘He’ put some balloons on the gate – ‘she’ wouldn’t let me have one to play with! That’s not fair, is it?

Now what’s happening? There’s a great big van coming in our gate – who’s this? Oh no – not more plants! ’She’s always bringing plants in and digging holes in the garden – and ‘she’ put a whole lot on a table this morning – why didn’t she plant them?

I could go off out if I wanted to – the gate’s open! I don’t think I will, though, there’s too much going on in my garden! Look at all these plants – and ‘he’ put the cars in that field!

I’m off – I want to see everything. There are people coming in the gate – I’m going to check them out. It is my garden, after al!

Are you coming? I might have a paddle on the way, if that’s all right…

Look at them all – what are they doing? They seem to be staring at ‘her’ flowers…

They’re up the steps, too – loking at ‘her’ big pot!

I wonder why they’re here? They seem friendly, though – I’ve had a lot of pats – and a little piece of cake, as well, when ‘she’ wasn’t looking – but when are they going?

Oh, at last – they’ve all gone. I can have a rest, now. I’ve been on duty for ages – it’s been a very strange day.

I have been waiting for this all day not disappointed.
poor henry having to have 'him and her' re organising his day.
I take it it went well then?

The garden looks lovely [I wish there was another word that would do it justice.]

4 Jun, 2010

What a smashing blog, smashing dog, smashing garden, just wish I could of seen that smashing dog and garden myself. Getting a bit fed up with that word "smashing" lets change it to stunning or beautiful or gorgeous.

4 Jun, 2010

beautiful garden & very cute dog... great blog too !

4 Jun, 2010

What a great blog - I thought your open day was tomorrow - whoops! Looks like it went with a swing though - so glad it was such a success. :-) It's a fabulous garden to entertain all those people in - and with a stream for interest too.
Thanks for giving us the dog's eye view Henry, and good luck with the next one.

4 Jun, 2010

It was almost as good as being there Henry, you write a much better blog than 'she' does. Tell her that her garden looks fantastic and everything looks so professional. It must be a bit like being in show business and just as nerve-wracking, but how satisfying too. Tell her I love the pic of her big pot...stunning:-)

4 Jun, 2010

Henry enjoyed it then Spritz, you tired him out as well, lovely blog and pleased it went well for you. .....

4 Jun, 2010

Congratulations Spritz for putting on such a good "show". I'm with all the others and can't wait for the day I get to wander round your lovely garden and feed Henry with cake whilst you're not looking! Lol

4 Jun, 2010

Brilliant job well done Henry. As a special treat I hear they are going to let you do it all again next week. I hope the weather is as good as it was on Thursday. I especially like the big pot but what a stunning picture of the blue solanum and white montana on the roof behind. Won't someone see there are dog biscuits available next week or you will be visiting the dentist.

5 Jun, 2010

Well done Henry, nice to see you kept everyone in check. :o))

5 Jun, 2010

Can I come paddling with you Henry? What glorious weather for a 'very strange day'. lol. What was the most frequently asked question? 'What's his name?...Henry! Lovely!'
I bet a lot of your visitors return next week to wallow in your wonderful garden again - glad it was such a successful day, Spritz.

I'm glad you enjoyed your day Henry. So many friendly people and such lovely weather :o)) You deserve a good rest after such a busy time. I wonder what they all wanted in your garden, - but then it's so beautiful you can't blame them for wanting to have a peep can you ;o)

5 Jun, 2010

Thanks everyone - Henry can't type, so I'm doing it for him. He says he's looking forward to Wednesday AND Thursday, as we have a group coming on Weds. and a open day on Thursday...maybe dog biscuits would be a good idea - he looks up so longingly with his big brown eyes that people can't resist giving him some cake! He'll be on a diet at this rate...lol.

5 Jun, 2010

6 Jun, 2010

Can't believe that after making your garden look so great and coping with all your visitors you had the energy to share it with us - but thanks for doing so. It is inspirational.

6 Jun, 2010

Super blog, its a real treat to share your day.

6 Jun, 2010

Although its not quite the same as being there in person I have thoroughly enjoyed my stroll around such a beautifully well stocked garden with undoubtedly the most handsom escort.

6 Jun, 2010

Thank you everyone from Henry and of course 'her'....we were tired, but happy after such a good day... Now it's time to prepare for this week's openings!

6 Jun, 2010

You know Spritzhenry, looking at your, sorry, Henry's 13th picture, I feel sure I had a jigsaw of your garden as a child. Do you think that's possible? I remember the lovely summerhouse roof with the hedges and another roof behind, and lots of colourful flowers in the middle. I think the picture would have been taken just a bit to the right of where this one was.

6 Jun, 2010

I think that's probably impossible, Beattie, for several reasons. 1) Our predecessors were very private people, and didn't even like neighbours coming into the garden. 2) There aren't any roofs behind the gazebo/hedge, as there's a farm field there, and 3) the garden has only been like it is now since we came here almost 6 years ago...I've changed a lot of the planting since then.

What a lovely thought, though - sorry to ruin your childhood memories.

6 Jun, 2010

sorry late to this Spritz.Your garden is looking stunning....glad the open day went well. Not too late to wish you all the best for next week I hope...

6 Jun, 2010

Of course you're not late - thanks, Jane/Ray. Fingers crossed for fine weather! It makes all the difference.

6 Jun, 2010

What a great blog and a stunning garden. Henry looks a superstar! If my garden ended up a quarter as beautiful then I would be a happy lady :o)
Hamy x

6 Jun, 2010

Thank you, Hamylalo. He is a great dog - we're very lucky to have him! :-)) He was angel-dog on Thursday...

6 Jun, 2010

Gosh I wish mine was an angel dog! Unfortunately Hamish loves digging but I guess that's just a westie!

6 Jun, 2010

He did when he was a puppy, but he grew out of that, luckily. His 'sin' is pinching stones that I dig up and running off with them! Then he barks, if I don't play his 'game'.

6 Jun, 2010

Lovely blog, Henry! looks like you did a sterling job with all those strangers looking around your garden.

Loved the pictures in here & looking forward to seeing more in the future.

Best of luck for your next couple of open days & I hope the weather is sunny & dry but not too hot.

6 Jun, 2010

Lovely blog Spritz, you really do have a beautiful garden. I'm glad your day went well and the sun shined.

7 Jun, 2010

Thanks - there was rain forecast for today, but it hasn't arrived yet - I was up at 6.30 and have cut all the edges, and OH has cut the grass... How virtuous was that? It looks 'ready' for the next lot of visitors on Wednesday now. Yes, Wednesday, as well as Thursday! A group of New Zealanders are coming.

Fingers crossed for two days of good weather!

7 Jun, 2010

Aw, Henry! Didn't you have a ball for those interlopers to play "Catch" with you? I remember your "cake" trick from last year, lol!

Everything that's crossable is so, for great weather and turnout next week! XXX

8 Jun, 2010

Errr...this week, David!! It poured with rain today, plus hail, so wasn't it lucky we 'did' the grass yesterday!

Henry has chewed all his balls to shreds - so he's without one temporarily...we'll have to find some more, won't we!

8 Jun, 2010

What a gorgeous dog, and we love the blog.

8 Jun, 2010

Thank you - he is! He's lying on my feet and keeping them warm at the moment. :-))) I'm glad you enjoyed his blog! lol.

8 Jun, 2010

Lovely blog as always Spritz. Really pleased that the day went so well. All the very best for Thursday.

9 Jun, 2010

Well done Henry for wonderful blog. Garden is sensational. Only just got around to reading it, Sorry. All the best for the rest of your open days. x

9 Jun, 2010

No need to apologise! Just closed the gate on the second day, and we were soooo lucky after the dreadful weather yesterday - it was sunny! Everyone seemed to enjoy it all - and Henry got fed again......he loved it!

One more day to go.

9 Jun, 2010

Congratulations on another success. I was thinking of you and wondering if you were having as much rain as we were. What would be not to enjoy with that beautiful garden and Henry. I'm so pleased to hear it was sunny.

9 Jun, 2010

Thanks - huge sighs of relief after yesterday! I put 'my' plants out, as well, just in case, and sold £12 worth!!! I was amazed!

9 Jun, 2010

Good luck with tomorrow. Forecast is more sunshine here I hope for you too.

9 Jun, 2010

Thanks. I haven't seen the forecast yet!

9 Jun, 2010

So happy it stayed dry 4 u Spritz :) Its been pouring with showers here on & off all day :(

9 Jun, 2010

We really were sooooo lucky, Jac - after yesterdays downpours and hail! It would have been difficult to have them all under cover for their tea, let alone showing them the garden....

9 Jun, 2010

OMG HAIL!!!! :(Thats Awful Spritz :(

9 Jun, 2010

I sat and looked in disbelief out of the window! OH was in the garage, and was stuck there until it eased off a bit, so he could run for it!

9 Jun, 2010

LOL :)

9 Jun, 2010

Oh dear - we shouldn't laugh, should we? ;-)

9 Jun, 2010

What a delight your garden is, lovely blog, thanks.

11 Jun, 2010

Are you still in a piece or have you collapsed in a heap.

11 Jun, 2010

Sorry - I haven't really been on GoY...we've been clearing up, taking all the signs down, returning borrowed tables, delivering 'thank-you' cards, counting and sorting out the finances, you name it! I haven't had 'time' to collapse yet!

Thanks, Grandmage. I appreciate your comment! :-)

11 Jun, 2010

Err, I did mean this week, really, lol!!

Enjoy a well-earned "collapse", the 3 of you!!! :-)) xxx

11 Jun, 2010

Thanks, David - we will! :-)))

12 Jun, 2010

So glad I came to visit your garden again this year. It looked absolutely stunning and so inspiring for a beginner like me. I only wish I had more room for plants - I am constantlyl trying to persuade my OH to relinquish a bit more lawn! Henry was adorable and so unfazed by all the comings and goings and the cream tea was delicious. Thank you so much for your hospitality - hope you're having a relaxing day, enjoying the lovely sunshine

12 Jun, 2010

Hiya Jan - how lovely to hear from you - don't run away again, will you - stay on the site, if only occasionally!

Me? Relax? You 'are' joking! I've been busy in the garden all day, apart from walking 'angel-dog' this morning. OH cut all the grass, so I've been edging, and planting the Cistus I bought from the Nursery that came. Also - most of the Aquilegias have finished, so I've been cutting them down, too.

Henry really was good, wasn't he - when everyone had gone, I found him flat out in the hall - he didn't even have the energy to look up!

12 Jun, 2010

well can you blame him, he was being such a good host, he must have worn his paws to a frazzle :)))))))))

15 Jun, 2010

I've never seen him so tired, even after a really long walk, Grindle! He loved it all though - that tail didn't stop wagging all day! :-))))

15 Jun, 2010

Bless him. He certainly played the perfect host in his garden by the look of it!

Your garden is amazing Henry so you might to give 'her' a big sloppy kiss for keeping it so nice for you.....and all them strange peeps!!

7 Jul, 2010

He does, Ob...and every morning, he walks around the whole garden, sniffing the flowers and checking that all is well. Strange - he'll bark if anyone appears at the gate or even passes, but he didn't when 'his' garden was open!

7 Jul, 2010

That's because he is obviously barking at those passing by to come in and take a look at his pride and joy........now you know!!

7 Jul, 2010

Ah-ha! So that's why! And there's me thinking what a good warning system he is! LOL.

7 Jul, 2010

:o))
